Following retirement, after thirty-two years as a police officer, working mainly as a detective, Michael returned to the deadly business of murder, as a writer. His past work brought him very close to some nasty characters, including psychopaths, and gruesome cases and he draws on that experience to craft his novels: There is nothing gentle about Michael’s stories.

His landmark novel ‘Heart of the Demon’, published in 2012, introduced Detective Sergeant Hunter Kerr. He has since written eight novels featuring him. He also released the first of his DS Scarlett Macey books in 2016.

Review for 'Hunter' by Michael Fowler

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Sapere Books

This is the first book that I have read by this author. This book is the prequel to the 'DS Hunter Kerr' series so can be read as a standalone or before reading the series. I am looking forward to reading more of his books.

I was originally drawn to this book by its intriguing cover and blurb. I must admit I also chose it as my son's name is Hunter 😂. I'm glad I did as it is a fantastic read and the blurb and cover work well with it.

This novel consists of 26 chapters which are relatively short in length so perfect for 'just one more chapter', like that ever happens for me, more like 3 or 4 more!!

'Hunter' is set in England which is always a bonus for me. I'm from Wales but visit England regularly on trips and holidays so have visited quite a few areas. This helps me picture places if they are mentioned in books and I have visited them.

The first chapter made me laugh. Roger is fab character and funny. Great to see some humour in a crime book as I feel its always good to lighten it up a bit and have a few laughs sometimes too.

Nice to read a crime book where the main character is on his probationary period, plus the fact that he is only 19 years old makes it quite unique.

A fantastic well written plot and storyline that engaged me from the start. Excellent descriptions put me right in the storyline.

Filled with suspense, drama, action, crime, murder and mystery 'Hunter' is a gripping page turner.

Love the well developed characters, all were strong and believable. I am looking forward to reading more about them in the rest of the 'DS Hunter Kerr' series.

I would recommend this book to fans of crime, murder, mystery, detective books, suspense, thrillers and anyone looking for a great read.

Free on Kindle Unlimited or £2.99 to purchase. I think this is a bargain for this book.

Really enjoyed this book. As this book is a prequel to the Hunter Kerr series I have read it first. It didn’t take me long to read it, I couldn’t put it down. I honestly can’t wait to read the rest of them now. Literally say with Heart of the Demon ready to start now. Can’t wait to see where these books go and to follow hunter on his journey.

Hunted

Enjoyed this Hunter Kerr prequel, I read it before I start on the three book series. Well written, easy to follow and full of both criminal activity and the police responses to each. Good "Crime" thriller from Michael Fowler

Him Hunter, Me Happy.

It is good to know the story origins of a favored character. This book is only my second experience with Hunter Kerr and I am happy to learn there are more Hunter Kerrs to investigate.
