Drugs. Bullies. Kidnappers. And Jack's second chance at happiness is under threat.
Jack wants to enjoy his new life, but he can't catch a break. A perfect day out turns into three months undercover. A bully threatens Nico and Daniel. And returning a favour leads him into a trap.
Jack has never refused his help, but he never had anything that mattered to him, either. Now he must change his priorities, or the family he's making for himself and his growing relationship with Gareth will fall to the demands made on him.
Jackie Keswick writes a mix of suspense, action adventure, fantasy and magical realism. She loves stories with layers, plots with twists and characters with hidden depths. She adores friends to lovers stories, tales of unexpected reunions and second chances, and men who write their own rules. She blogs about English history and food, has a thing for green eyes, and is a great believer in making up soundtracks for everything, including her characters and the cat.
This book is brilliant. The pacing, the plot twists, the dodgy dealings, the spooks and their games, Jack and Gareth, the rest of the gang.
The narrative is ramping up in tension as all the strange goings on at Nancarrow start to bleed into something else.
Jack has to go undercover and things get complicated on his mission and go rapidly downhill once he's out.
There's definitely something rotten in the woodshed and it takes all of Jack's skills, and Gareth's patience for the threads to unravel.
Even at the end of this one, I'm no wiser to what's going on deep down but Jack and Gareth are working hard at their relationship and moving forward with their life together and I love them both so much!
5 stelle piene
In the first book of this series, all Jack wanted was a job. Nice, quiet, maybe technically challenging, but no politics and no undercover stuff. And look where that got him! So when I saw the title for this book, and figured all he wants now is a house – I went uh-oh immediately. With his and Gareth’s track record (and yes, I strongly suggest you read the other two books in the series first so you understand fully what their history is) this third book was going to be as explosive as the first. And I was right. With counterfeit money, drugs, yet another undercover assignment, corporate espionage worse than before, and e lot more to lose, emotionally, than ever before, Jack and Gareth had their work cut out for them in this installment.
Ya’ll. I am seriously going to cry when this series is over. Like ugly as hell cry. I have come to love these characters so, so much. Jack, Gareth, Nico and Daniel. Such special characters. Even the secondary characters are so good. I want to punch a few but, hey, you've got to have a few bad guys. I don't ever want it to be over. One more. This one doesn't have anything as far as triggers much. Well, there is an issue of kidnapping and some violence. Nico gets into a fight that brings up some bad memories, but it doesn't get too bad. But still have a care. Jack is still investigating some shady stuff going on at Nancarrow. He's getting closer to figuring some stuff out maybe, but he and Gareth need a bit of a break. So Jack takes Gareth on a ride in a souped up car to get some amazing seafood that Gareth loves and maybe some hot sex while they're out. But as they park near a trail place, Jack notices a car that creeps him out. He ignores it for now and goes to enjoy time with Gareth, but seeing that car as they leave, Jack can't ignore it. What he doesn't expect is to be pulled into a drug situation the cops are trying to get on top of. He's pulled into another case, this time drug dealers at least, and is gone for three months. He does what he has to do and when he comes home, feels off. He buries himself in work and trying to balance himself out with Gareth and the boys, but being in his own head is hard to overcome some days and it takes Gareth to get him out of it. Just about the time he's starting to feel himself, he finds the evidence he's looking for for Nancarrow and is kidnapped. Hopefully, he can get himself out before anyone panics and can get the info where it needs to be. I feel so torn with these four guys. Nico and Daniel are getting so much better until Nico gets into a fight. But even that is huge for them. Before, they would have cowered away or flashbacked but Nico stood up and defended them. It was huge. Jack was so proud. Jack was even getting on more even footing since Christmas. With his background, that was huge too. Sometimes Gareth got it. Most times he did and was patient with Jack. I love that about him. But him being undercover again for three months, through a wrench in all that work. Jack was trying to sort it all out in his head. Gareth still trying to be patient. But sometimes you need the words and for Jack, that's doubly hard. So I feel for both of them. In a relationship, communication is always key, and when you can't always rely on that, you have to find ways to work around and through it. It beautiful to watch, to be honest. Frustrating at times, too. When they can't get each other. I hate, too, how everyone tries to pull Jack in. Jack has a hard time saying no, because of his background and now the boys. I hate that everyone tries to take advantage of that. Alex does big time in this one and I'm with the rest of the guys. I was pissed. And Jack felt he did wrong. Or that he was in trouble. All because of her. So yeah, there's some major intense moments. It's like the others. A page turner. Still as suspenseful and full of mystery. As just as good as the rest. I love this series.
wow this one packed a punch! Jack and Gareth seem to have to go through hell to finally be together ... but they are worth it. for each other and the readers
I loved the story and the suspense part. Daniel and Nico are great and I love how they fit into the story!
Riletti i precedenti volumi. 💖💖💖💖💖

House Hunt is the third book in The Power of Zero series, it has to be read in order for maximum enjoyment, since it features the same characters from the other two books and follows their story.
Jack is unable to say no and gets roped into going undercover for three months. Being away from Gareth proves to be more difficult than he expected and he does everything he can to cut his assignment short. But other factors come into play to keep them apart...
I'm really enjoying the action/suspense part of this series. Both the continuing arc following Daniel and Nico and the drug/counterfeit angle that was explored in this particular book. It's obvious Ms. Keswick has done a lot of research to give us a very realistic story.
I also liked seeing Gareth and Jack again. I especially liked that Jack is showing more of his feelings and is making an effort to make things work between them. I love their chemistry and how well they fit together, and how Gareth is learning how not to smother Jack and Jack is learning to trust Gareth more.
All in all, another great book in the series! Very well-written with an intriguing, suspenseful storyline that will keep you at the edge of your seat. Highly recommendable!
It’s the holiday season and Gareth Flynn’s favorite time of year: family, friends, food and celebrations, and especially cooking. Gareth has awesome culinary skills. But Jack Horwood is not totally comfortable with all the things that comprise family. The holidays just don’t bring good memories for Jack, and we find him taking a serious look at his ghosts from the past.
Jack is also facing the issues ahead, in Nico still having to identify people associated with the pimp who’d enslaved him and Daniel. Gareth’s mother, Roz, Nico and Daniel’s foster parent, believes she has come across Daniel’s biological parents. Jack becomes involved in finding another missing boy, and the more Jack examines his ghosts and starts to let go, we see him take a big step in his life. We also see a special bond really start to develop between Nico, Daniel, Jack and Gareth, which really gives Ghosts a very warm feeling.
This is a story of finding a place that Jack can be safe and call home, along with Nico and Daniel. I really liked Gareth’s part in this book, needing to keep Jack safe and building a stable life for Nico and Daniel too. Jackie Keswick gives more depth to Jack and Gareth’s growing relationship, and we get to see Nico and Daniel start to grow and become more expressive around Jack and Gareth.
There are points in Ghosts where there are setbacks, and we see the fragility of Daniel, Nico and Jack. Gareth proves to be that solid person that all three need as the bond between them keeps growing. I liked the way Ms. Keswick gave Gareth and Jack their own special wisdom too, with Gareth telling Jack, “The best families, the strongest ones, are always the ones we make for ourselves.” The special gift that Jack gives to Gareth really tells the story: “Yesterday. Today. Tomorrow. All they’ve been. All they were. All they might ever be.”
And, I can’t help but mention Aidan Conrad once again; he’s there with his little tidbits of advice for Jack and Gareth. For me, he’s one character that always stands out.
I highly recommend that Job Hunt, book one in The Power of Zero series, be read before Ghosts in order to understand the full dynamics of this story.

In House Hunt, we find Jack Horwood surprising Gareth Flynn with a day to themselves. Gareth is willing to give Jack this special outing after all the chaos that occurred through the holidays, especially if this alone time will help Jack feel comfortable and tell Gareth what’s on his mind. Gareth has always worried about Jack and knows that Jack’s past still haunts him and makes him feel worthless. After all, Gareth is the only one who has a fairly good understanding of how Jack’s mind works.
After their day out, a particular vehicle piques Jack’s interest more than once. His curiosity gets the better of him and he discovers drugs. Gareth is not excited about this at all, and the discovery winds up dragging Jack back undercover for three months. Jack is torn about leaving Gareth and the boys for that long, as it isn’t something he wanted to do, but Jack can’t help the need to fight for what’s right. Gareth fears loosing Jack if he goes undercover again.
Nico and Daniel are finally going to school and getting more comfortable with their way of life now. We see Gareth’s closeness with Daniel growing as they share the joy of cooking. Nico is more like Jack and has interest in video games and learning more about the skills of protecting himself. Then there’s a slight setback for Daniel when an incident happens at school.
Jack is still working for Nancarrow Mining and he discovers another data thief. As he gets deeper in recovering the cryptic stick, he finds himself kidnapped. Gareth and Aidan make a stand and call in Mel and Khandi, two very interesting characters, to help get Jack out of this dangerous situation.
House Hunt is another double thriller from Jackie Keswick. It’s suspenseful, fast paced and action packed, and keeps you on the edge of your seat. And, once again, Ms. Keswick brings us an amazing cast of characters that will peak your interest. We also get to learn a little more about Aidan Conrad’s life.
I liked that she gave that little flaw of jealousy to Gareth in this story, but she also brings love and warmth with Roz, Nico and Daniel. No matter what Jack’s endeavors are, there is a family for him. I’m hoping Ms. Keswick is going to add another book to the Power of Zero series because there are two major questions that haven’t really been resolved. One does concern Nico and Daniel, and the other involves Jack, Garth and the boys. This is an intriguing series and I highly recommend all three books: Job Hunt, Ghosts and House Hunt.
This book was really great, addressing a problem for Jack and Gareth that once wouldn't have been a problem at all. As is the way of things Jack finds something suspicious while he and Gareth are out on a date and he can't ignore it. This leads down the rabbit hole of a problem that needs solving, people in trouble, and a plea for Jack to help in the way that only he can. Once Jack would have simply dove into the work and left without even a backwards glance. But now he has something he never expected, a family he truly cares about, and leaving them is harder than he ever expected. Coming back is no easy feat either.
In their desperation to be normal Jack and Gareth try to take six steps forward when the events have just taken them two steps back. They remember the normal the had together, the easy closeness that had been hard fought, and now they can't seem to find it again. Fighting to find that again and acknowledge that they have changed, their lives have changed, is difficult for them. It also presents the problem of how to deal with their work moving forward; they will never stop being who they are and helping others, but how will that look now as a family? It was a journey to find each other again where they knew the end point but the path there seemed to have changed.
As always the case isn't perfectly strait forward either. This go awry and amok as the main part gets figured out but simply spirals off into further problems. It is clear here that things have changed as well. While Jack can handle it on his own, and sometimes is forced to, he prefers to reel in help from those around him he knows, his friends and family. This growth is great to see and there promises to be so much more as this series moves forward!
Prima o poi.
Thank you for the ARC read, I voluntarily give this book an honest review. In Jack and Gareth life new missions pop-up all the time. This time is a drug dealer stash gone wrong. Jack's fears over take his life when sent on a uncover assignment. Will Gareth still be there after all this? Will he have anyone left? Gareth is just as affected by missions that go dark, are they strong enough to... Nico is a turning point in this story giving both Jack and Gareth a focus point in their new world. Telling Jack all the unspoken things in his mind dreading if it will push Jack away or pull him closer. Drama and crime is all over this book, trailing the lives of these secret spook squads. This series is just getting better with each read.
A great addition to a series that is quickly becoming one of my favorites. After the quiet Christmas we got in the last book Jack is back and this is action packed. So much happens and really sounds like a set up of what we can look forward to in the upcoming books. Gareth and Jack's relationship is only getting stronger and Jack has finally found people that will have his back and allow him the room to still be himself without using him. Daniel and Nico are doing well and I'm ready to see them settle into life with Gareth and Jack in their new home.
Bellissimo, intenso, teso e pieno d'azione. Splendido. Hugs&kisses
Oh I love it when the sequels are even better than their predecessors. The whole series started too messy for my liking, too much was going on, everywhere, there were several seemingly unrelated plot lines, bazillion characters, complicated personalities and yes, secrets etc but by the third book it gets pretty comfy.
Loved the third book, much better than the second one. More action and intrigue. I love seeing Jack in action. Love Jack and Gareth, love the development of Daniel and Nico as well as the kids grow and you see them becoming unique individuals, separate from their shared last horrors. Great secondary characters. Looking forward to the next book!
Fabulous! I love how this series balances thrills and spills with the emotional development of the central relationship. It seems typical that a nice day out together in the countryside for Jack and Gareth turns into a drugs haul interception followed by an undercover assignment!
Gripping, exciting action-adventure balanced by the all-important romantic element. Such a wonderful series!
LOVE Jack and Gareth. I held onto these books because it was a new author and the blurbs sounded interesting but didn't put the books to the top of my list - well, the blurbs didn't do them justice. I loved them more than I thought I would
Jack, the trouble magnet, hacks some stuff, puts the fear of Jack in a bully, burns some stuff up, and kicks ass while leaving locked up criminals in his wake, all with his signature style. So...the usual. I can't wait to dive into book four.
I am ploughing through this series and although I have a million other books waiting to be read, I can’t step away from this series because it’s so totally engrossing. Love it.
It didn't feel like nearly 500 pages, the time seemed to go quick. The first time in ages that I have read a book in one day. Loved it. In this book Gareth and Jack finally decide on buying a house together, Jack once again finds trouble and Daniel and Nico come to grips with normal life.
I have a love-hate relationship with this series. I love the stories, they are so action-packed and intriguing. But there’s some thing about the writing that makes me feel like I’m constantly missing half the story. I don’t know what it is, but it makes that stories difficult for me to truly enjoy. Doesn’t mean I won’t still read them, I’ll just be over here feeling like an idiot.
In this third installment of Jack and Gareth's story they want to buy a house. Normally that task is stressful enough, but add all of Jack's issues, drug dealers, undercover work and general mayhem and you get an exciting book.
