I used Study 1 John: What Is a Real Christian? by Jason Dexter extensively while preparing for our Bible Study Group through 1 John, and it has also served as a valuable reference resource while writing my book, From Death to Life: A Biblical Guide to True Salvation. I continue to reference it as I work on another book focused on the assurance of salvation.
What I appreciated most about this study was its clear focus on the biblical tests and evidences of genuine faith found throughout 1 John. The book does a good job balancing doctrinal truth with practical application, helping readers carefully examine what Scripture says about salvation, obedience, love for God, perseverance, and assurance.
The teaching points, discussion questions, and application sections make it especially useful for both personal study and group discussion. I found it very helpful not only for organizing teaching material, but also for encouraging deeper reflection on what it truly means to know Christ and walk in fellowship with Him.
1 John is one of the clearest books in Scripture regarding assurance and the marks of authentic Christianity, and this study provides a solid and practical guide through those themes. I would highly recommend it for individual study, discipleship groups, or anyone seeking a deeper understanding of biblical assurance and true salvation.
