Chasing their fantasy of finding buried treasure on their first beach vacation, nine-year old Tommy and his older brother Auggie unearth a two-hundred-year-old mystery. After a series of strange mishaps begin to haunt them and their family, they begin searching for the truth and the meaning of their treasure. With the help of a friendly neighbor, they meet a reclusive, old fisherman who helps them understand the power of the pirate treasure find. This story is set on a pristine southwest Florida barrier island that is teeming with beautiful wildlife such as tortoises, dolphins, manatees, pelicans and ospreys that become characters themselves in this exciting outdoor adventure novel. Doubloon! is a delightful story told through the eyes of a nine-year old boy with an unforgettable cast of characters who are relatable, funny and love solving an old mystery.

So refreshing as an adult to take a little time to consider the world as seen through the eyes of a fourth grade kid. The book targets the middle school age group, but anyone will enjoy this vacation adventure. I liked the character development as described through young Tommy's observations. You won't have to try very hard to get your imagination revved up. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Thoughtfully delivered

Lots of fun information for boys about island life, people and nature. Enjoyable story line. This is a good book for kids to get drawn into the love of reading.

Great read. I am no young adult (I’m 72) but I found it to be a good and very believable story line with some history and geography as a plus.
I have two grown boys who are dyslexic who would have loved the story line and ease with which the story flows.
