Try: A Graphic Novel

Rate this book
A GRAPHIC NOVEL ADAPTATION - COLLECTOR'S EDITION

Black & white interior illustrations with a beautiful hardback cover.

Note from the Author: This book has been two years in the making, and it's my pleasure to bring you Logan & Tate in TRY.

Try - verb: to make an attempt or effort to do something or in this case...someone.

Sex. Logan Mitchell loves it, and ever since he realized his raw sexual appeal at a young age, he has had no problem using it to his advantage. Men and women alike fall into his bed--after all, Logan is not one to discriminate. He lives by one motto--if something interests you, why not just take a chance and try?

And he wants to try Tate Morrison.

Just coming out of a four-year marriage with an ex-wife from hell, a relationship is the last thing on Tate's mind. He's starting fresh and trying to get back on his feet with a new job at an upscale bar in downtown Chicago. The only problem is, Tate has caught the unwavering and unwelcome attention of Mr. Logan Mitchell - a regular at the bar and a man who always gets what he wants.

Night after night Tate fends off the persistent advances of the undeniably charismatic man, but after an explosive moment in the bar, all bets are off as he finds his body stirring with a different desire than his mind.

As arrogance, stubbornness and sexual tension sizzles between the two, it threatens to change the very course of their lives.

Logan doesn't do relationships. Tate doesn't do men. But what would happen if they both just gave in and...tried?

$55 for a graphic novel??

This series has been rebranded with new covers, extended with more books, and now graphic novels...

Soooo I guess I’m gonna be the first one to say that I was a bit disappointed by this version of the book.
Many factors played in this and it’s really a shame because I wanted to love it.

1) I am a bit confused as to why half the book is still text and the other is pictures. You see not every dialogue is put in this book, not even every dialogue between Tate and Logan. The book format is displayed by scene and I don’t know if it’s about not going a certain page number or what but you have chunks of dialogue missing and being rewritten while the text part are straight out of the book.
This creates a disjointed feel to it because honestly someone who hasn’t read the book would be really confused by the chain of events. The scenes are not well connected between them. The dialogue is rushed and you don’t get the full depth of either characters.

2) Again I wonder if there was a same number limit because while it is really well drawn, they are squeezed together and you’re missing a lot of the details. I had to put my face in the book to see some drawings. I think, more spaced out or like a manga, you would get more of what they wanted us to see.

3) My pet peeve is that on close-ups there is no way to differentiate Tate from Logan. They are drawn the same from the mouth down with the same exact stubble so when they zoom in on a kiss you have no idea who is who.

4) That’s a personal taste but, again I don’t know how much can be drawn or shown but the whole book stayed on the side of tame. You wrote a beautiful erotic book, if you’re going to it on pictures, go with it, dare! Also, I’m sorry but the few times they drew Tate’s or Logan’s cocks they looked like little popsicle.... not attractive.

5) Cole needs a makeover. He looks like a teenager.

Like I said I really wanted to like it but I was kinda “meh” about it and yes, for such a price tag I expected more. I do hope that they try again with the other books and rectify those mistakes because it is a nice idea.

Ok so that is a hard one... I preordered mine weeks ago and I was a little bit dissapointed to be honest. I love Logan and Tate but in my opinion the story was cut really short and yeah we all like the sex between them but that is not what is forming them in to the awesome couple we know. Also why does Tate look like a doll? I would have prefered the faces of the first draft at the end of the book. Because Tate should be hot and Logan is the beautiful one. I just don‘t feel it... and don‘t get me started on the price I know it is art and I was willing to pay but for a price like that I would have expected better quality of the book - the format is just horrible. Because I love Ella and all her stories I am not going to rate this one. I simply can‘t do it 🙁

”Batter up. I want to play with some balls…”

😅 I love Logan so much.
Logan and Tate are what started it all for me. I had read a little bit of MM before, but mostly mixed in with MMFM, etc. Last year I started noticing I couldn’t stand a lot of female characters. They’re written so weak and whiny. I could only find a few good ones, and then I noticed if there were two men in a story I instantly got attached to them. Their fierceness, strength, and downright ballsy attitudes. I wanted more MLM, and I found Logan & Tate. It’s thanks to Try by Ella Frank that I found the MM genre, and because of that (and the fact it’s one heck of a story) they’ll always have a special place in my heart.

I debated for the past year, since I finished The Temptation series, whether to buy this graphic novel. $50 seems like a lot for a book, but it really makes sense and it’s worth it. It’s large in size, the story is condensed down to cover all the important pieces (meet cute, angst, first time and the 🔥🔥🔥 chemistry), and the illustrations are spectacular!!! They’re beautifully rendered, and pretty much fit almost exactly how I pictured Logan and Tate. And hello sex scenes!? I was not expecting the um penis drawings, but I’m not complaining. Every little tiny detail is accounted for.
You can really tell Sarah Chreene put a lot of love and attention in this.

Well done and I’m glad this will be on my bookshelf forever. 💙

Note: I definitely suggest reading the actual book first before attempting the graphic novel. To fit the story in with the graphics they left out some pieces of information. Nothing you wouldn’t know if you read the book, but if not, you’ll feel a little lost. This is definitely made for fans.

I didn't know I needed this graphic novel in my life, but boy am I glad I purchased it. The graphic depiction of several key scenes from Try are breathtaking.
As for the price... I'm really not sure if those that are complaining really understand how much time and effort goes into making a novel, let alone a graphic novel. It is priced right for the amount of time and energy that it took to create this piece of art. It also costs more to print images and in hardback format.

I absolutely loved this graphic novel. To have the pictures along with the words was just wonderful. Sarah Chreene did an awesome job on the graphics of both Logan and Tate, just to see those guys together was hot, hot, hot. Of course Ella wrote an awesome book can't have this graphic novel without her 😍! You two did a marvelous job thank you so much! I loved this novel it's something my eyes will never get tired of looking at. Just so yummy!!!

I obviously love Logan and Tate, but this isn’t printed very well. The paper is thin and some of it was slightly blurry.

This story sets a very high benchmark for the MM genre which many other books are ranked against. Many of us started our MM journey with this book (and series) and love it dearly - me included.
Tate and Logan are legendary characters and often list in the top 5 book boyfriends.
This story is a bisexual awakening for Tate who is the (many will say lucky) target for sexy Logan who doesn't let much stand in his way. It's hot, steamy and exactly what you didn't know you needed in your life.
Trust me - you want to TRY this book.
The graphic novel edition is an abridged version which doesn't have all the elements and subtlety of the full novel but carries the tone well and has the epic benefit of the pictures! Well worth the money.

I loved the books so I thought I would love the graphic novel but sad to say it was just okay. Some of the magic of Ella Frank's story is lost in translation. The artwork is nice but Logan and Tate come off looking very similar and the featured scenes focus almost solely on the sexual aspect of their relationship. I may have worked my hopes up to high for this one.

This was a really enjoyable read! The art is gorgeous and the amount of story that was packed in was impressive. I haven't yet read the actual novel version (will now!) but I wasn't confused with the story or anything. Definitely glad to have added this to my book collection! Worth every penny!

2.5⭐️

I love graphic novels and well though-out and well-crafted adaptations. This isn’t one. It's disappointing and feels like a cash grab.

- Maybe to save money, half the book is in text. Each text page introduces/fills in what the artwork is conveying on the accompanying page, but I don't want an entire page of text every other page, especially since the artwork is so cramped.

- The art style is. . . fine. I don’t have a problem with the drawing style, but the overall aesthetic and composition isn’t great. It’s busy and very sloppy at times—disproportionate body parts/items, weird angles, bad blocking and shading, etc. Many times, the facial expressions don't match the conversational tone. Like why is he doing his smile/smirk while he's being serious and vulnerable? It's like Chreene decided on a handful of expressions and that was it whether they matched the tone or not.

- While the artwork overall is okay, the panels and text composition are not. Again, maybe to save money, the panels are of varying shapes and sizes and are smushed together to get as many on the page as possible, regardless of the scenes needing a bigger panel/more space. It works fine in some scenes bc they are basically contiguous shots, but the graphic novel is black and white and the line delineation can be off-putting/barely decipherable depending on the ever-changing shape of the panel. This isn't helped by what I hate the most. . .

- The text. The font. The size. How the text bubbles are handled and incorporated. It sucks. I'm sorry but it does. It might not have been so bad without the asymmetrical panels, but between the sizing, the font, and the variably sized panels (usually too small for the art and text), it comes off as messy and slapdash.

Frank knows her fans love this series and will be keen on anything related, but it is telling that there was no ability to preview the pages before purchase. I was leery bc of the price, but like I said, I love graphic novels and good adaptations so I figured I'd give the benefit of the doubt. I shouldn’t have.

If you can’t get enough of Logan & Tate this is a beautiful addition to your collection. The illustrations are absolutely gorgeous. I can’t say this abbreviated format stands completely on its own in storytelling(I’m spoiled by the richness and depth of the book), but knowing the story already it adds a stunning layer of detail. And honestly, because this was created out of love as a treat for fans I don’t think it was intended to tell the beginning of their story on its own. I have my own way of picturing these men and I’m pleased to see that the illustrations are pretty close. Ella & Sarah did an incredible job on this and I couldn’t be more pleased to know that Tate and Logan will always be on my shelf.

As for price complaints in other reviews, print on demand books aren’t cheap, especially with a lot of images rather than words. It’s also big for a book like this, while not terribly thick, the pages are huge at 8.5” x 11”. It’s a collectors edition, that took 2 years of editing and sketching to produce. With all that considered the price seems pretty fair.

Soooo one of my favorite book was turned into a graphic novel.....sooooooo of course I'm going to read it!

This was....how to I express myself? Well...I thought it was beyond what I expected! I always pictured what Logan and Tate looked like in my head and after reading this, I have to say...my actual images of them...they looked better than what I imagined.

Getting to see each scene played out was....interesting. Oh no, it was great. Just....you saw...a lot of it. If you know what I mean. I'm not complaining, just blushing haha.

Overall, I loved Ella for doing this and the Sarah for making such beautiful artwork!

The art work is amazing. Sarah did an amazing job. However I would have loved it if it had been a proper graphic novel with the full Logan and Tate story but I think that's my inner comic geek showing through.

Yes the book is expensive but just look at the work that Sarah has put into it to bring Ella's much loved characters to life. That didn't happen over night by the art fairies. That took months of hard work on both Sarah and Ella's part to bring together. If you can't appreciate that then this book isn't for you.

This is my first book of Ella’s I’ve read in quite a while. I thoroughly loved reading it. Tate and Logan’s chemistry as off the charts. I can’t wait to continue their story in her following books. It shows how much I loved it in that this is my first review in a long time. These days I usually just leave a rating of stars and no review. Anyone on the fence about reading one of Ella’s books or this one get off that fence you won’t regret it. I can’t remember the last time I gave 5*

What a stunning and gorgeous expression of Tate and Logan's budding relationship. The illustrations are incredible and so tastefully erotic. This graphic novel is perfection and the perfect companion to the rest of the books in the series. A true fan treasure!

It will be a prized book on my library shelf.

Beautiful!

I finally purchased this after seeing so many fans of the Temptations series raving about it. The illustrations were amazing and overall it was well done. Still not entirely sure the price should be so high but I don’t regret buying it. A smidge more of Logan and Tate is worth it. (Though I don’t think I could purchase 5 more at this price if they decided to adapt all of them into GNs.)
