When jammer Slashy Sadie of the Detroit Roller Derby is found dead in her loft, Detroit PD is on the case. After all, what’s supernatural about being stabbed in the chest? But nothing is as it seems when the dead woman’s magically booby-trapped journal ends up in the hands of agent Teresa Martinez—codename Lancer. In Fulcrum’s absence, Martinez has taken over esoteric surveillance of Detroit, and the knotted mess of Freemasons, witches, and hell’s politics will push the boundaries of her fledgling magical skills. Can she untangle the nefarious plot and find out who is actually pulling the strings or will it break her in the process? Whip Smart is the sixth book in the Salt Mine series, an exciting urban fantasy about the black ops agency that monitors supernatural activity from its subterranean headquarters in the deep salt mines of Detroit, Michigan, USA. If you enjoy the TV shows Supernatural, Grimm, Eureka, The Librarians, Warehouse 13, X-Files, Relic Hunter, or Fringe, you’ll enjoy reading the Salt Mine series as they keep a lid on the wild esoteric world of the occult. When magic is real, someone has to rein it in.
Whip Smart has actually been my favorite Salt Mine book so far. I enjoyed all the twists and red herrings. It was an enjoyable read for me, a definite upgrade from the first book. The only reason this isn't a 5 star for me is again the simple spelling/grammatical errors that get on my nerves. It seems I can count on there being some in every Salt Mine book. The one for this one I remember was it said notable when it should have been notably, but whatever. Doesn't take away from the the story, just something that I get annoyed about.
