This isn't bad, but this is definitely the volume I like least so far. The reason for this -- a multiple mind technique, so there's multiple spiders mentally chatting to each other, and it gets annoying fast. Did you want a jock stereotype and a nerd stereotype to talk to each other? I didn't!

There's still good things going on, and it's interesting to see how she adapts to each environment. I wouldn't drop the series over this book, but I'm less excited for the next one, thanks to the annoyance technique.

This volume takes a turn in point of view when the protagonist is able to split her brain processing power into three comic personalities who control different skill sets. So a story of loneliness and survival drastically changes tones, and the established voice of the narrator all but disappears in favor of these comic stereotypes.

The artwork is consistently good.

J’ai la série jusqu’au tome 5 depuis un long moment, je me décide donc (enfin) à lire les tomes qui restent, avant de prendre la suite un jour. J’aime beaucoup cette série pour son côté peu sérieux, mais attention, ça peut changer. Ayant vu l’anime, et l’ayant aussi chroniqué, je me répète, le manga n’a rien avoir ! Là où l’anime rush complètement l’histoire pour atteindre le point attendu, le manga lui prend son temps, et c’est pour le mieux ! Parce qu’au final, l’anime a beau avoir ses qualités, il a aussi ses défauts…

Le premier défaut de l’anime que je peux souligner, c’est que tout va tellement vite, qu’au final, on ignore la majorité des compétences de la protagoniste ! Heureusement, le manga pallie à se soucis assez facilement, pour certains d’entre vous, le manga en fait peut-être un peu trop par moment (et je suis d’accord). Mais il faut savoir que l’auteur a pris le temps de poser les choses convenablement et de manière détaillées, il ne faut donc pas enlever le mérite pour avoir réalisé une telle chose. Après tout, le souci lorsque l’on donne trop de détail, c’est de finir par devenir incohérent ou totalement disproportionné ! Pour le moment, je n’ai rien noté de tel, ouf. Reprendre ma lecture de la série après autant de temps me rappel à qu’elle point je l’adore, je crois qu’elle est au tome 11 environ… j’ai de quoi rattraper mon retard…

Dans ce nouveau tome, elle continue d’améliorer ses différentes compétences, après tout, elle en a besoin pour survivre. Le feu est littéralement son point faible, sa toile brûle facilement, et elle aussi. Bien sûr, elle a acquis la compétence résistance liée à cet élément, mais cela ne suffit pas. Toujours aussi débrouillarde et drôle, elle finit par monter de niveau et évoluer à nouveau. Elle découvre également que certaines de ses compétences n’évoluent pas ou plus, après avoir atteint le niveau 10. Après l’amélioration de l’une de ses compétence, elle acquière une seconde « identité », désormais deux dans un même corps, elle décide de mettre en place un rôle pour chaque identité. Même s’il s’agit d’elle-même, cet ajout lui permet enfin d’avoir des conversations, autres que monologue. L’auteur joue évidemment avec ce point pour proposer encore de l’humour.

As Kumoko tries to return to the higher level mysteries are revealed and her Taboo levels continue to climb.

When I read the 1st volume of this series I was kind of not sure of the series. Certainly the student turned spider was interesting enough thanks to her survival instinct that kept her alive against all odds but I also found the video-game style skill system to be interesting but also made me wonder how bad they might eventually get. In this volume please allow me to introduce you to the skill Parallel Minds which evolved from Parallel Thinking. If you thought our sorta scattereed spider friend was bad before imagine if she had 2 minds that could control certain aspects of her body. Not so bad Then how about 3 minds so she can have a jock mind to control her body, a mental mind to control her info gathering , and magical Spider Kumoko so she can try to figure out magic eventually. Things are only going to get crazier from here on out with 3 brains that do not always completely agree and danger on the rise.

Also there is another short manga for the Another Reincarnation story at the end of the volume as well as a brief short story by Okina Baba. I hope you enjoy. :)

It’s interesting how the new skills Kumoko acquires fall almost entirely in the realm of religious or philosophical thinking this volume. Even a skill that deals damage based on guilt. There’s a very obvious moralistic weight to using these acquired skills, but Kumoko considers them only as tools in the game world without thought to the full description. She does have a brief existential crisis, but it doesn’t last before she back to min/max’ing stats. I don’t know if that’s by design, but interesting nonetheless. I love the art in this series, but between the panels full of info dumping and excessive exposition (now with parallel thinking brains at work even more exposition) there is never enough art to see. And, I won’t even mention how overpowered our main character is becoming. Because the manga is so focused on only one part of the story from the light novel, I wonder how the big twist is going to work in this one. I suppose we’ll see eventually, eh...

[review for vol. 4 & 5]
Our fearless hero is still navigating the dungeons, leveling up, and learning about her growing and evolving abilities. At the end of vol. 4, we get a clue that other members of the spider's former classmates have also been reincarnated into this dimension. At the end of vol. 5, a glimpse of the larger powers at work in this dimension. I really like the smaller, insular world of the spider and her progression and am not sure I will like the introduction of too many characters outside her immediate sphere. We also get the appearance of the separate brains (information and magic) and so far they are incorporated well into the story and not confusing things too much...

Each volume packed full of content

I really liked the anime so I was very excited to read the manga. So far it's been great! Lots of content, so you don't feel like the volume is short. I do find myself feeling overwhelmed though whenever the skill lists pop up. There's just so much detail in the game mechanics that it almost feels like it's slowing down the storytelling... It's important world building but it almost feels excessive.

How cute are the seahorse, catfish and eel? Loved the first half but not so much the second half with the data dump of skills and the double then triple brain, that was funny for a bit but soon wore off. I did like the extra manga at the end with the lizard. Still, we shall see what the next volume brings.

This volume has more of Kumoko doing her best, and it's great. Spider is adorable, monsters are delicious, and even plot movement. Administrators are introduced, parallel minds is introduced... It's really an awesome volume.

Growing powers

Our main character is getting super strong and more of the world is being revealed. The side story manga is also extremely interesting and I am very curious to see where this story is going to go.

Als ich hier das Wort "Kumuko" las (was "kleine Spinne" bedeutet), viel mir auf, dass wir den Namen unserer Heldin garnicht kennen. Er wurde niemals erwähnt, was wirklich komisch ist. Und als hier ein Lava-Aal auftauchte, viel mir auch auf, dass die Monster hier bisher nur größere und leicht veränderte Versionen von Tieren aus dem echten Leben sind.
Und die Autorin hätte die Entwicklungsmöglichkeiten besser erstellen sollen. Natürlich würde hier das Soa-Ere ausgewählt und nicht das Taratect. Der Soa-Ere hat bessere Kampfmöglichkeiten, der Taratect besseres Gift und in diesem Ozean von Lava und Flammen wird einer Spinner besseres Gift nicht viel nützen.
Und genauso wie im zweiten Band, frage ich mich, was hier als Skill gilt. Inwiefern ist "Geduld" ein Skill? Oder "Hochmut." Und auch wenn es toll klingt, dass es eine Macht ist die Götter und himmlischen Spheren zu erreichen, ich frage mich wirklich, wie "Geduld" so etwas schafft. Ich dachte auch, es würde eine zweite Spinne, sprich Figur, auftauchen aber stattdessen, kann sie sich jetzt in zwei Spinnen teilen. Und vielleicht wurde das eingeführt, da es jetzt im vierten Band etwas mühselig ist, zu hören, wie sie ständig mit sich selber redet. Und erst jetzt fragt sie sich, ob sie in einem Videospiel ist, dabei hatte ich mich das schon im ersten Band gefragt. Manchmal ist sie wirklich etwas langsam im Kopf, nett und witzig, manchmal genial, aber manchmal auch wirklich langsam. Und kaum hatten wir zwei Spinnen, kam auch schon eine Dritte, diesmal eine Magierin.
Irgendwie etwas eigenartig das alles. Dieser Band war nicht so gut.


2) English Review
When I read the word "Kumuko" (which means "little spider") here, it occurred to me that we didn't even know the name of our heroine. It was never mentioned, which is really weird. And when a lava eel appeared here, it also struck me that the monsters here are so far only larger and slightly modified versions of animals from real life.
And the author should have created the development opportunities better. Of course, the Soa-Ere would be selected here and not the Taratect. The Soa-Ere has better fighting capabilities, the Taratect better poison, and in this ocean of lava and flame, better poison is of little use to a spinner.
And just like in the second volume, I wonder what is considered a skill here. How is "patience" a skill? Or "arrogance." And even if it sounds great that it is a power to reach the gods and heavenly spheres, I really wonder how "patience" manages that. I also thought that a second spider, i.e. figure, would appear, but instead, she can now split into two spiders. And maybe that was introduced because now in the fourth volume it's a bit tedious to hear her talking to herself all the time. And only now does she wonder if she's in a video game, although I asked myself that in the first volume. Sometimes she's really a little slow in the head, nice and funny, sometimes awesome, but sometimes really slow. And no sooner had we had two spiders than a third came, this time a magician.
Somehow a bit strange all of this. This band wasn't that good.

Recensione volumi 4-5 ~ ATTENZIONE SPOILER!

Ed eccoci qui, al fatidico momento delle 5 stelle!
Gli ultimi volumi (anche se in ritardo) li ho praticamente divorati!
Il fatto di aver livellato così tanto ha portato la nostra piccola ragnetta a fare cose che avrei creduto decisamente op per una della sua razza. Vederla muoversi negli scontri è un piacere, perché denomina quanto l'autore sappia muoversi all'interno di un dungeon e un gioco di ruolo come quello che, alla fine, stanno impersonando.
In più, l'arrivo degli umani (in modo finalmente consistente) mi fa presagire che da adesso in poi ci sarà un crescendo di situazioni uniche in cui non vedo l'ora di immergermi!
