This fifth and final installment in this World War II armor series ends what has been an enjoyable reading experience. The author succeeds in wrapping up all the loose ends and giving closure for all his surviving characters. As a veteran, I really appreciate Craig DiLouie’s skill in creating such believable characters living through profound experiences. He has the knack of bringing the reader into the reality he creates. Highly recommend this series to be read in order.
From North Africa, through Sicily, England, France, the Ardennes and Germany you are taken on a journey of discovery. War, bravery, comaraderie and blind luck feature along the road. Not everyone survives... I thoroughly enjoyed this series and was left with a new appreciation for the tank crews and their part in the war. The characters in the story really come alive and I'm glad the author followed their personal stories.
No punches pulled here! Extensive detail on everything to do with the bloody job these men had on their hands. Good exposition of the weapons they used and how adequate tactics finally evolved after horrific experiences, proving once again that all plans fail when the shooting starts.
I don't often read IS stories of the second world war,,as they are often a bit too gung ho. This series is different, well written and researched. A fascinating heartwarming story of a group of men forced together, who formed a bond. Read the whole series, enjoy I did.
I found this whole ARMOR series a little dull to read. The characters needed more development to make them relatable and the stories seemed loosely structured around historical facts. For me, more detail was needed on the included maps so that I could keep a mental image of the different battlefields.
Book five completes the Armor series in a realistic and satisfying way. Good combat sequences, interesting detail on tank and how they were fought, and engaging characters make the entire Amor series a great read. Just as good as DeLouie’s WWII submarine series.
I enjoy reading historical fiction. I read all 5 books in the series. It gave me a good feel for what it was like to be in the armored service. The reading was quick.
This is a case where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. I gave the 5 books in this series each 3 starts but I would give the series 4 stars. It is well worth the effort to read the 5 books.
Gripping story while fiction, rings with truth. It shows the horrors of war and the cost to both sides. War has no winners and losers, only losers. Great story and even better ending.
An action-packed story that gives insight into the days and nights, the good and bad, and the joys and heartaches of the men who lived and died in those ugly yet beautiful beasts of metal battling their way from the "Beach" to Berlin.
Terrific end to a Great series. Very realistic and showed a ton of research. Very enjoyable read. Loved the way the ending tied everything together. Looking forward to reading more from this author.
