Tolkien said, "Not all who wander are lost." But Abby is pretty sure she is...
Abigail Lynde went off to college confused.
Not about her major, not about what she wants to be when she grows up...but about who she really is. Her mother always says "just be yourself," but how can she do that if her true identity is a secret even to herself?
She's one Abby for her roommate. Another Abby for Mia. Yet another for her father and sisters, whom she has only known for two years.
Phoebe Alexander writes #sexpositive #bodypositive erotic romance featuring compelling plots intertwined with passionate, fiery encounters. The Explorer (Mountains Series #6) By Phoebe Alexander 5 out of 5 stars
I loved reading the story The Explorer (Mountains Series #6) by Phoebe Alexander. I have loved reading about Abby in the previous books of this series and am thrilled that she now has a story of her own. This is a book that pulled me in from the beginning and didn’t let me go until the final page. Even when I finished, I wished there were a few more chapters. Abby is in college and on her own. Although she feels like she has to be someone different with each family member and even her friends. Will Abby find her happiness? I also loved reading about Gavin. He is a fellow student of Abby’s. Will he find himself at college? Will he find the attention and friendship that he has always wanted? Read this book to find out. Both Gavin and Abby are wonderful characters. They are likable characters and you can’t help but want them to find happiness. This story is an emotional one and my emotions went up and down the entire time I was reading it. This is a coming of age story that has Abby and Gavin finding out about themselves and the others around them. There are steamy romantic scenes. I would highly recommend reading this book.
The sixth book in the series and Phoebe Alexander has done it again an action packed book. I have adored reading about Abby in the other books and now she's got her own. Abby in college and setting her own path this is a steamy coming to age book. Which deals with how to have a positive body imanage and sexuality. Gavin dad broke my heart. Amazing read just like the rest of the series by Phoebe Alexander.
The Explorer is the sixth book in the Mountains series by Phoebe Alexander. What a wonderful addition to the series this is. Even though it could be read as a standalone, I really recommend reading (at least) the first three books in the series before starting on this one as they are where we first meet our MC, as well as providing background information and other relevant details which enhance your appreciation of this book. Abigail Lynde (Abby) is Sarah’s daughter (from books #1 - #4) and we now get to follow her and find out so much more bout her. She is just starting out on her Freshman year in college- and has a great understanding of what she wants to do with her life- but is at a loss as to ‘who’ she really is. She feels she has to be so many ‘different’ people to everyone in her life- presenting a different version of herself to them all. It’s exhausting and makes everything so much more complicated. We follow her on her journey of self-discovery- as she finds her true ‘identity’ and through all the highs and lows that come with it, as she navigates through trying to balance it all along with college life. Fantastic!
The Explorer (Mountains Series Book 6) by Phoebe Alexander 5 of 5 Stars “The Explorer is a Mountains Series standalone in the new adult/coming of age genre. It can be read with or without the main three books. It is only recommended for readers over 18”. I was looking forward to catching up with the characters from the ‘Mountains Series’ and reading Abbey’s story and I was not disappointed. Abigail Lynde is Sarah’s daughter from the first three books in Phoebe Alexander’s series about James and Sarah, she has always been in the background of her Mum’s story and so I was pleased that she now gets her own. Although I have read Alexander’s previous books in the series this book can be read as a standalone story, giving enough backstory to the main characters. Abbey goes off to college and although she has no doubts to what her major will be she is confused about who she really is as she seems to have a different version of herself for different people, her Mum, her Dad, who has only recently come back into her life with sisters in tow, her friends, and her girlfriend. Then at college she meets a group of friends and things start to change for Abbey. Meanwhile shy, geeky maths genius Gavin has gone off to college determined to be anyone or anything he wants to be. This book deals with real issues that many young adults face today especially around sexuality and body image. Alexander is not afraid to raise real issues and tackle sensitive issues and still manages to wrap it all up in a great story with amazing characters that you can’t help but fall in love with and cheer on. As per her previous books I was gripped from page one,and I read it in a single sitting and was fully immersed in the world Alexander had weaved around Abbey. A fantastic and refreshing read.
The Explorer is the 6th book in the Mountains Series by Phoebe Alexander, but the first I have read. It is a stand alone, coming of age story. Abigail is starting her freshman year of college and is on her own for the first time in a new city. This is the perfect time to reinvent herself, and start fresh. However, she is still discovering who she is, and who she wants to be. She feels like she has to be someone different based on who she is with. There is the version of her high school self, the new and improved Abigail with her new friends, the daughter she is to her mother, as well as the daughter she is to her birth day and step sisters, whom she recently is developing a relationship. Add in the mix the recent development of being a lesbian, and she is a hot mess. Gavin is also on the trek to a new persona. He has been the shy geek for the last 4 years, and is starting college with no friends. His dad has talked down to him his whole life, making him feel guilty about who he is, so he has a hard time accepting himself at this point. When he sees Abigail across the cafeteria, he instantly feels an attraction to her, but it takes day to work up the nerve to even talk to her. However, she quickly informs him she isn't interested in guys, and shuts that train down fast. Despite the minor set back, they become instant friends and continue that closeness throughout the first year. They learn to lean on each other and get through the year together. I loved the writing style and all the characters in and out of the story. They have very relate able personalities and situations they handle. It was easy to get drawn in quick, and I can't wait to read more by the author.
I was so excited to get my hands on this newest addition to The Mountains Series from Phoebe Alexander. This book plays along with the first novels but gives us the perspective of Abbey, who is Sara’s daughter from the first three novels in the series. I loved her side additions to the previous books we saw her in and was stoked to see what things would turn out for Abbey as an adult woman now. This book is written to where you could read it as a standalone novel but I feel like they all are so wonderful and well written to flow well that I think you would miss out on the experience if you didn’t read the others.
We find Abbey about to embark on her adventures of being a college student. Abbey is confident in her school and studies choices but of course life is not always a smooth ride or transition. I love how realistic Phoebe’s stories are and how she makes you feel as if you are right there with the characters seeing and feeling what they are doing from beginning to end. You become invested in the characters and feel as if you are reading about someone you know. I love how she manages to bring tricky, triggering, and controversial subjects and turns them into the real situations they are and show the characters coming out on the other side. We get a lot of that in this novel. I won’t give you too much details but this is one you are going to want to read! I can’t wait to see what will come next from the ever talented Phoebe Alexander!
Book Reveiw: The Explorer Author: Phoebe Alexander FIVE STARS This is the sixth book in the Mountains Series. This book can be read as a standalone and is for mature audiences only. There are so many questions that young adults have these days and on of them is about their sexuality. They don't know what they want. Am I attracted to same sex, opposite sex, both, neither, EVERYONE. It can be a very confusing time for them as they head off to colleges and universities. The same happens to Abby. Having experieced her first same sex encounter the previous year, Abby knew she was attracted to other girls/women, but at the same time she was attracted to boys too. After talking with some friends, Abby discovers that it is possible that not only could she be bi-sexual but pansexual. This book is really great and it opened my eyes to the very real situations that kids these days are dealing with. Phoebe Alexander takes taboo or tough to discuss topics and brings them to life. Yes they may make you uncomfortable to read about in the beginning but as you read, you develop a love for the characters and you find that their situations are nothing more than things that EVERYONE deals with in life. Sexpositive and Bodypositive messages throughout every book that Ms. Alexander writes. I am a fan and I love her books. KLH
I have a tendency to not read the blurb of a book before I read it, therefore I had no clue where Phoebe Alexander was going in The Explorer (Mountains Wanted Publishing, 2020). I was exactly where Abby was in the story (laugh).
Alexander takes us through Abby and Gavin’s first year at college. Both of the main characters had completely different upbringings yet are very similar in personality. They both start off in the same place emotionally at the beginning of the book and Alexander takes us through their changes during their first year on their own.
We get to experience first times, heart break, the stress of tests and papers, and death. There might be some triggers for readers, but I did not issue the usual warning as Alexander just lightly touches the subject. There is some emotional abuse which one again borders on the trigger warning and me writing one. It was not a trigger for me, but it might be for others.
Alexander explores sexuality and gender in The Explorer and does it with sensitivity and sensuality. Alexander also utilizes humor which y’all know I love. I highly recommend you explore Phoebe Alexander’s latest in the “Mountain Series”.
I received an ARC of this book and I am writing a review without prejudice and voluntarily.
The Explorer (Mountains Series #6) by Phoebe Alexander
5 Stars
Well, here I go again trying to find the words to convey how I feel about this book, this series, and this author.
This was a tough one...I can't imagine having to basically live 2 different lives to be a part of both of your parents lives. The sad part of this is that I bet this is happening today in real life with more of our young adults than we can even imagine, this hurts my heart.
I kind of feel like I watched Abby grow up so I felt kind of protective over her in this story..weird I know but that's how real this whole series has felt for me. I've become completely invested and kind of feel like a long lost crazy aunt or something LOL
I don't pretend to completely understand Abbys struggle except for just trying to figure out her way in this life and who she is. I just know that her character was written beautifully.
I suppose you could read this as a stand alone, although I can't imagine that as there is no way I'd have missed the ride to this point.
This author is and always will be one of my hold close to my heart authors. If you have not read any of her books yet...What are you waiting for, she is in a class by herself and as always I can't wait for the next.
The Explorer is the 6th book in the Mountains series by Phoebe Alexander. Books 1-3 in the series should be read in order but the remaining books are standalones and can be read in any order. I have previously read a lot of Phoebe Alexander’s book and have enjoyed everyone that I have read but I was a bit worried about this one as I didn’t really relate to Abby’s character when I read books 1-3. I did, however really enjoy this book although it didn’t grip me quite as much as Sarah and James’ story. In this book Abigail (or Abby) has gone off to college. It’s very much a coming of age story. Abby was confused about her sexuality. She was sure that she liked girls, and only girls but throughout this book we see Abby coming to terms with her sexuality and discover who she truly is. I really enjoyed reading Abby’s journey, her growing friendships and relationships. This book has some great secondary characters, particularly Willow and Gavin, who are both fantastic characters that I really enjoyed reading. I also enjoyed reading the relationship between Abby and her newly found father and half-sisters. As much as I hated her father’s actions, it was very well written and engaging to the reader. I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to others. It’s a great coming of age story.
If you read the first three books in this series, then you have already been introduced to Abby and know a little of her back story. This book, however, focuses on Abby and her transition to college. As seen in previous books, there are many sides to Abby. Each side is dependent on who she is around. However, now Abby is off to college and it is time for her to discover who she really is. This means exploring this new freedom and allowing herself to come to terms with her own sexuality. We are introduce to Gavin. Gavin is also starting college and trying to find himself. When he meets Abby, there is an almost immediate attraction. When Abby doesn't feel the same way, they develop a friendship that they both really need. Gavin is coming to terms with being out from under his father's thumb and constant scrutiny, and he and Abby form quite the bond. One thing I love about Phoebe's books is that they feel so real. She tackles the real-life issues that people struggle with on a day-to-day basis. I found pieces of myself in both Gavin and Abby. Also, there are some other characters that we are introduced to that feel like people I know in my real life! Another great book by Phoebe in a series that has kept my attention since the first page of the first book!
Abigail is headed to college, where she hopes to get over heartbreak and find herself. What she finds there is so much more. We met Abby in the first 3 books of the series, so I had been really excited for her book, and Phoebe did not disappoint.
College can be a confusing and stressful time for students. Abby is trying to figure out how to label her sexuality, and what exactly that means for her. This story is also told from another student’s perspective, Gavin. He’s drawn to Abby immediately, but he backs off when he learns she’s a lesbian. But that doesn’t stop them from drawing close as friends.
There were a lot of real-world situations in The Explorer, issues facing teens and adults, and I appreciated that Alexander included some of Abigail’s mother’s struggles. I like Abby’s personality and her willingness to try new things. I loved her core group of friends; they seem like the perfect core group. This was a fun read that has a little to love for everyone. I would love to check in on her down the road and see how she’s doing.
This is book 6 is the Mountain Series. It follows Abby's story. We have meet Abby in the other Mountain books but this one can be read as a standalone. It does have references to the previous books but its not a lot that means you cant follow the story without reading the previous books.
Abby has finally left home and has started callege live. She is learning to live as an adult and deal with things in an adult way. She falls in love with a woman called Mia.
Even though she knows her mother will accept her gf and her choice to be with a woman, her father isnt going to be as happy or supportive.
This follows Abby's journey from living two seperate lives, acting as one person with her dad and his family and being her true self around her mother, to finally learning and embracing who she is and managing to get that across to her father.
Its an emotional story with loads of ups and downs but a great insight into what a teenager may have to face for them to truelly be the person they want to be.
The Explorer Mountains Series Book 6 By Phoebe Alexander ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ Full length novel, as well as the 6th book in this series. This is a coming of age for Abigail (Abby) and Gavin. The Explorer could be a standalone, but I recommend you read the series in order.
As Abby enters college, she has so many things to learn about herself. Starting with who she is and what she wants? Gavin is the nerds type shy and trying to figure out what he wants. These two meet and become friends. But not before Abby tells him her secret? Can these two get along? Become friends? Only reading this story can answer those questions.
Phoebe Alexander has done it again! I love this story so much. I love her characters and have enjoyed reading their adventures. This being the 6th in the series does not disappoint. This is a page turner for the start. Filled with feels and just an Emotional Rollercoaster. I have read many books from this author and will continue to look for more from her. Job well done Phoebe Alexander! ! !
The Explorer (Mountains Series Book 6) by Phoebe Alexander
I was so happy to find out Abby was getting her own story. We were introduced to Abby in the first book in this series, she is Sarah's daughter and we have watched her grow in the previous books from afar because she wasn't a main character. She is off to college now and she is trying to figure out who is. She meets Gavin and Willow and they become really close. Abby also meets a girl named Mia who is a little bit older than her. I'm not going to give anything away so if you want to know what happens between her and Abby you need to read this book. There are some issues that are dealt with in this story that bring out some emotions. I got caught up in this story so much so that I didn't want to put it down. This book can be read as a standalone but it is my recommendation that you read all the books in this series because they are awesome and you get to know some really great characters. I absolutely love this Author and her writing style, I highly recommend this book.
This is the sixth book in this series, I loved it just as much as the previous books. This book can be read as a standalone but I highly suggest reading the entire series. This author writes with heart and her books are full of hot, steamy romance. This book is no different. It is a well written story that has well developed characters that bring the story to life. This is Abby and Gavin’s story. They both feel as if they have other people living inside them. Abby feels that everyone wants a different person. Gavin feels that no one is listening to him or even notices him, they see him as not very strong. What these two have in common with each other you will have to read this book but you don’t want to miss it. They are strong characters that I loved watching grow throughout the story. I felt bad for them in parts and joy in others. They kept me turning pages fast. I highly recommend you picking up their story.
I find books by this author so difficult to review now because I always write the same thing but that’s because every single one of her stories is just so wonderful to read. They are always different, they explore different things and I always feel like I have learnt and take something away with me from her stories once I have finished reading them. I loved the blurb for this book it was so vague that it really felt like I was going into this story blind but as usual what I got from Ms Alexander was a wonderful main character in Abby and getting to read about her life as she navigates coming of age. I loved reading about Abby in previous stories so to now get her own book was really special, I feel like I really know her as a person. This book could be read as a standalone but I would highly recommend the Mountains series from the beginning!
The Explorer (Mountains Series #6) by Phoebe Alexander. This is a Series book but can be read by itself. Its a wonderful story. Its the story of Abigail who is headed to college where she hopes to get over the love of her life. Abby is at that confusing stage of life where she doesn't know if she wants to date guys, girls or both. Abby is feeling pulled at all ends because she feels like she has to be a different person with all the people in her life. She meets Gavin and they hit it off right away. He is a shy geek who is starting college with no friends. So when he sees Abby he is instantly attracted to her but it takes him days to work up the courage to go up to her. When he does she tells him right off the bat she's not attracted to guys! They still hit it off as friends and become fast buddies getting each other thru hard times at college! Read this amazing book to find out what happens to Abby and Gavin!
Abby is trying to figure out where she belongs in the world, questions her sexuality and trying to get over a broken heart. Dealing with each of those things on their own is hard enough. But when you throw in also going off to college and throwing ALL of that in the mix, it makes for an overwhelming mix that has her feeling like she’s drowning in emotions.
Along the way, she meets several new people Gavin, Mia, and Willow. Each makes an impression on her and each friendship means so much to her. Through all of that, she’s coming into her sexuality more and relationships stir as their journeys unfold.
I loved the characters and the different quirks they each have. I felt like they’re each very relatable, whether it was in each of their everyday relationships or the struggles they have gone through. It’s a beautiful story that really pulls at your emotions, and has storylines that go a long way for self-discovery, tolerance, and love.
I don’t normally like reading romance stories about college kids. I feel like I’m a creepy old lady! They’re my daughter’s age! LOL! But this one was wonderful! This is a coming of age story about exploring yourself and finding out who you truly are. Then learning how to deal with judgement by others. Others who are supposed to love you no matter what. This is a struggle so many in the LGBTQ community have to deal with. It shouldn’t matter what your sexuality is. This story shows both sides. It shows how those who are so uncompromising and ignorant in their beliefs really can change and learn to accept that it is okay for everyone to be who they are born to be.
This might be my favorite Phoebe Alexander book…and that’s saying something because I love all her stories! She pulls out all the feelsall…the…time! This story is completely different from the rest of this series but every book is great! Read them all. My recommendation is 5 stars!
The Explorer was a great 5 star read and book six in the Mountains series. This can be read as a stand alone.
I was excited to get Abigail's story, she is Sara’s daughter from the previous books. Abigail is starting college in a new city and so is Gavin. When Gavin meets Abigail and is instantly attracted to her until she shares that she isn’t interested in men and is confused about what she wants, could she be pansexual? They become fast friends and help each other get through their first year of college.
Overall this was a great read, you get so many different things that add a great element to the story. I don’t want to give anything away so I won’t go into much more detail. I loved all of the secondary characters. Phoebe does a great job of pulling you in with her writing and you won’t want to stop until you are done. She also has some great messages in her story as well. 1-click and get started today on this great read.
The Explorer by Phoebe Alexander a five-star read you would climb mountains for. This is number six in the Mountains series, this one can be read as stand-alone, but the series is amazing, we have met Abby the main character of this one before as she is the daughter of one of the main characters from some of the earlier books, but this one Abby comes into her own and we get to know more about her as a woman. This author shows us again how to deal with issues we all face in a more inclusive manner as she shows us how to be body positive and just accepting of sexuality no matter the form it takes. Abby is growing up and we get to go on the journey with her, it’s such an insight into her mind, and its like being a fly on the wall of a young person’s life. This really brought some amazing characters to life and I can only hope we get to hear more from them.
Have you ever felt like you needed to be a different person for whoever you are around? This is a question that I have answered many times in my personal life. Phoebe Alexander in The Explorer about these same feelings. Her character development is extensive and complex. I felt like I could be right there with Abigail. She feels that she needs to be someone different for others, but she doesn't know how to be Abigail when alone. She is starting college and really trying to find her true self. Gavin is starting his journey. He is starting his journey to find himself. The plot is a simple story when you get down to it, but Abigail and Gavin sure makes the pages fly by. The innocence of Abigail and Gavin makes this an enjoyable read. I highly recommend this series to find out what happens to Abigail and Gavin.
The Explorer (Mountains Series Book 6) by Phoebe Alexander. This author never disappoints me and I once again find myself saying this is my favorite one yet. I just love this story. This one can be read as a stand-alone but if you’re anything like me and love reading all books in a series in order I recommend it as there’s absolutely nothing you won’t love about every single book. Once again this author takes my breath away with characters and a storyline that captured a piece of my heart. From page one I knew I’d be up until I finished reading the entire book, and I was correct I couldn’t put it down. It’s well written and paced nicely never feeling rushed or lacking anything. The characters are complex and relatable, loved reading their story. Five stars all the way and highly recommended!
The Explorer by Phoebe Alexander is the sixth book in the Mountains series. This is an absolute incredible series that I for one think everyone should read. The books can all be read as standalone however it is well worth reading the whole series. As with the previous books I was instantly hooked on this story. I honestly do not know how the author does it but she has such a knack for creating amazing and captivating characters. I loved them in this book and really did not want to stop reading about them. I found that I just couldn’t put this book down and absolutely had to finish it all in one sitting. Phoebe Alexander is an author that has landed herself firmly on my must read list and is an author that I would urge everyone to read. Immediately!
This is the 6th book in the series and I have loved every single book so far. I would recommend reading all of these books because they're all very good and I wouldnt want to miss one. This story was heart felt and had me on a roller coaster of emotions and of course there were those amazing sexy times thrown in too. The main characters in this book are Abby and Gavin. I really like both of the characters and I was rooting for them from the very beginning. I felt like I was right there with them living through the hard times and loving the good times. They were both strong and had to overcome things to hopefully get their HEA. I am looking forward to reading more by this author in the future! And I would recommend this series to a friend! Happy Reading!
5 Star The Explorer (Mountains Series #6) by Phoebe Alexander
The Explorer is the sixth book in the Mountains Series by Phoebe Alexander. Although this can be read as a standalone I do recommend reading the whole series. I loved this Book just as much as I have the previous ones. This is Abby and Gavin’s story. Abby feels like everyone wants a different person where Gavin feels as if no one is listening to him or notices him . These two both feel as if they have someone else living inside them. Find out what happens next. I loved these two characters and at times I felt bad for them and others very happy. I highly recommend reading this Book, heck the whole series for that matter. I can’t wait to read more from this Author.
This series has completely hooked me but I've always been a fan of Phoebe Alexander. Her writing has always been different from anyone else that I have read. Her stories are unique and nothing compares. I loved that we finally got to read about Abby. She's in college and feels like she needs to be someone different to make her friends and family happy even though its not something that makes her happy. Gavin is also trying to find himself as well. The sparks between the two but they go through a journey that not only includes love but finding ones self. You can't help but fall in love with these two characters. They send you on one heck of a rollercoaster ride but it was so worth it in the end.
The Explorer (Mountains Series #6) by Phoebe Alexander
5-Stars
The Explorer (Mountains Series #6) by Phoebe Alexander was an excellent read and can be read as a standalone in this series. I loved Abbey in all the other books but never had the chance to really dive into her character. I lived that this book did that. There was so much more to her than what I initially thought. She is such a wonderful girl and it was amazing to see how she developed in the new college atmosphere. There were several steamy scenes making this book best for readers 18+. I loved how easy the storyline pulled me in. I highly recommend this book and its series.
The Explorer by Phoebe Alexander is the sixth book in the Mountains Series. This can be read as a standalone though some of the characters have made appearances in earlier books. This book is well done and tells the story of a confused young lady trying to find herself and who she wants to be. College is a tough time and she discovers a lot about herself. While doing this she makes a great group of friends who help each other on their individual journeys. This is well done and a good read for someone who might be experiencing the same questions. I always enjoy books by Phoebe Alexander and this did not disappoint.
