Chris Wooding grew up in a small town in Leicestershire, where not much of anything happened. So he started to write novels. He was sixteen when he completed his first. He had an agent by eighteen. By nineteen he had signed his first book deal. When he left university he began to write full-time, and he has been doing it professionally all his adult life.

Now thirty-nine, Chris has written over twenty books, which have been translated into twenty languages, won various awards and been published around the world. He writes for film and television, and has several projects in development.

Chris has travelled extensively round the world, having backpacked all over Europe and North America, Scandinavia, South East Asia, Japan and South Africa. He also lived in Madrid for a time. When he wasn’t travelling on his own, he spent his twenties touring with bands and seeing the UK and Europe from the back of a van.

He also learned not so long ago that his family tree can be traced back to John Milton, author of Paradise Lost, which has no bearing on him whatsoever but it’s kind of interesting anyway.

Chris lives in London.

Only the first two books got translated to Swedish, and I bought them when I was little. For years I felt unhappy with this story being unfinished inside me. Finally, I decided to buy the rest of the books in English, and I'm happy I did. The language is easy and the story is epic - and the story in itself is immersive and full of imagination.

The only thing I did not like about this series, is that the characters are a bit too stereotypical sometimes, especially Gerdi made me uncomfortable by his likeness to the romani people (or Ravnos in WoD).

Short but sweet. Finally found and read it.

To my great surprise and happiness, when the book arrived I discovered it also contains numbers 8 and 9, which obviously makes it the last one and an epic conclusion to the series. I really liked the ending and the new possibilities to travel and see more of the strange world the story takes place in. All the main lines have very satisfactory wrap ups, and some of the main characters dying gives a feeling of reality to the whole thing. I don't know if I agree with Whist dealing the final blow (I don't really know what to thinks of him, in the end) and with Li'ain simply going away (I liked her much more than Calica), but generally it is a happy ending after a long and tragic battle, so I won't complain anymore!

(This review may contain spoilers).

I really like this series of books. There were new, interesting characters - and I liked how Ryushi's bond with his wyvern worked.

I'm not too happy about how things are going with Hochi and Gerdi. I hope they can figure things out between them eventually.

I was glad to see Kia regain her memories and finally accept comfort. I can only hope that she won't go back to the icy cold person she was before. And I hope Elani and Peliqua are safe and well, somewhere.

A year after the fall of Base Usido, we are updated on all of our characters. One thing not told us though: how did the Parrakas get from Kirin Taq to the Dominions?

It's almost like starting fresh, with the same characters but meeting/exploring new ones and new races. We get to learn about the Deliverers, and these sand ghouls, what was driving them to get "her"?

Possibly my favorite book out of the series, although I was greatly saddened by certain events. Chris really outdid himself with his final book!
