The aim of the 100 Cases series is to provide a novel learning and revision tool that works by guiding students through clinical cases, imitating those that students and house officers are likely to meet in accident and emergency and outpatient departments, and in general practice.
The cases are written to interest students in clinical problems and to help them develop their skills of clinical reasoning, with each scenario providing details of a patient's medical history and the key findings of a clinical examination, together with initial investigation results data for evaluation.
Key questions then prompt students to evaluate the patient, and reach a decision regarding the patient's condition and the possible treatment plan; while the answer pages will help students to understand the processes that a clinician or surgeon goes through in such situations. Designed with the student in mind, this volume includes features to aid self-directed learning, clinical thinking and problem-solving.
100 Cases in Surgery covers common and more unusual complaints presented, in the following surgical specialty vascular, breast, endocrine, urology, orthopedic, neurosurgery, upper GI, lower GI, anesthesia, and post operative complications.
I've read almost half of the book -since I don't have much time before my exam-, it's not my 1st experience with this serious, and I think it is really good book to revise the subject. highly recommend it to medical students :)!
A very good book with 100 common cases in many surgical specialties (orthopedic, vascular etc) but to my surprise, it does not contain cardiothoracic cases. Each case starts with a history followed by physical examination and some basic laboratory tests and radiographs. Then, questions on diagnosis and management, answered with good explanation. Finally, some key facts concerning each case. I recommend it for medical students
