It was a decent book. The wife annoyed me because she wasn't as aggressive as I would have liked, and then the side piece was even dumber. There are several grammatical errors, missing words, and incorrect punctuations throughout the book which also made it harder to read; but overall, the book had me hooked and I read it from beginning to end, while working an 8 hour shift, in one day, so that should tell you it's worth the read.

This is a very messy inconsistent story. I'm all for the average day in the hood magnified but for his wife to go from being so strong to weak for no true apparent reason every other situation was a bit annoying. I enjoyed it for a casual read.

Chile, My Husband’s Mistress 1 & 2 is a lot and then some! All I could do is side eye, yell the audacity, the disrespect, suck my teeth and laugh throughout this whole book.. This was definitely a ride!

This is your typical hood classic! I liked that the author remained true to the mentality of those in the hood! You can't compare this to something like a historical romance novel or you'll be disappointed. This book was reality tv aka one of those "Housewives" shows wrapped up in a juicy novel. I really liked the characters and the suspense. The story is so grimy and messy that I was on the edge of my seat waiting for what would pop off next. I am looking forward to what happens next...

“Not all books are worth the rage they stir up. This one? Oh, it tested me.”
Let’s just say… if I could rate it lower, I probably would. My Husband’s Mistress was a frustrating read from start to finish — and not in a compelling, “I can’t believe this twist!” kind of way. More like a, “Why did I just spend hours of my life listening to this?” kind of way.
Let’s unpack the disaster, shall we?
💬 The Language – or Lack of Nuance:
I’m not above profanity. A well-timed swear can hit hard and add edge. But this book? It was excessive. The kind of excessive that didn’t feel gritty or raw — just lazy. It gave the whole story an amateur vibe, like it was trying to be “street” without any real substance behind it. Honestly, it made the writing feel like it came from someone who mistook noise for voice.
📉 The Plot – If We Can Call It That:
Two women — one educated, the other not — both tangled up with a broke, no-good man who openly prides himself on being a player. He literally beds women for advancement, using sex as a stepping stone while these women fight each other for his scraps. It’s baffling.
Not an ounce of growth. Not a flicker of redemption. Just pages of the same toxic dynamic repeating over and over like a glitchy reality show you wish you could turn off but can’t because you’re already too far in.
😒 Characters – Who’s Rooting for Who Here?
No one was likable. And I don’t mean morally gray with complexity — I mean flat-out annoying, unrealistic, and exhausting. The women were written in a way that felt almost insulting, like their only worth existed in their relationship to this man who brought nothing to the table but heartbreak and hardship. At some point, it felt less like a story and more like a cautionary tale that just wouldn’t end.
💢 The Themes – Or, Why I Stayed Mad:
This book is basically a masterclass in “how not to romanticize toxicity.” Instead of exploring growth, accountability, or even emotional depth, it doubled down on unhealthy choices and glorified dysfunction. It’s a glaring reminder of how often women ignore their intuition, make themselves small for men, and keep playing house with men who wouldn’t even bring a spoon to the table.
🎧 Audio Experience:
I did this one on audiobook, and I’ll be honest — it didn’t help. If anything, the narration only made the flat dialogue and chaotic tone more obvious. It was like listening to a soap opera with no real payoff.

A cliffhanger. Because of course. As if I was so invested in this toxic mess that I needed more. Nope. Not me. I won’t be continuing, won’t be checking if there’s a sequel, and frankly — I want my time back.

It was a pretty interesting story. I can say that I have never heard the words whore, seed, cock and pussy so much in one book. Some reviews found Destiny to be a dumb chick, but I found her character very relateable. She fell in love with a man that she thought loved her back equally, turns out he didn't. She reached her breaking point and she did what she had to do. I see nothing wrong with that, honestly how many woman have been a Destiny? I won't talk about Imani...she is a hot mess. All and all it was a good read. The ending made me think this is maybe a series. I would be interesting in continuing to hear the story. I want to see Hassan get his in the end.

I love a story wear the characters are strong and not weak. Everyone plays the fool, once maybe twice, but five or six...becomes annoying. Destiny character started off as a strong female lead considering what she had been through as a teenager. I was disappointed that she gave her husband so many opportunities. When she first found out he was cheating “she suspected” she said he didn’t know who he thought he was fooling. She also didn’t want to leave him because she was pregnant and she did not want her child to experience not having both parents around. I can understand that, many people stay together for their child and understanding her childhood trauma I can’t fault her for that. I didn’t understand why she was still having sex with him. Nope, the guest bedroom is all yours buddy, you do you, I do me. She also ended up with proof and catching him in blatant lies. So now she has herpes, serious side eye. No if you knew he was cheating and you was staying in the marriage for the sake of your kid then that’s what it should have been about. Not to mention even after she had proof that he was cheating, she still put him through law school and help him start his own business. Well really she started his business because he was broke. I didn’t get it.

Where do I even begin? I am going to guess that this book was just too hood for me. Don't get me wrong, the story was intriguing - so much so that I didn't stop listening. But I think what got me not caring for it was the language. I say this because the story was angsty, Destiny (the heroin) character developed nicely. But it was the language that got me. It was not just the slang terms, but raunchiness of the words. Pussy and cock was used a lot, and new terms I've never heard before. One being "seed" when the male villain referred to his off spring. That was the one that comes to mind first. I remember thinking "what"? I couldn't get that one out of my head. It will remain there until my dying day.
Aside from the language, I felt everything that could happen to Destiny did. She was an orphan who was brought up by a foster family. Out the gate, we learn she was raped by her foster father. Then she cuts off his penis during a night she finally breaks. She maintains a great relationship with her foster mother, and goes on to become a nurse, and is strong and independent. Then she meets Hassan, a guy who works at the hospital trying to go to school to become a lawyer. The books is written from the three main character's perspectives and we learn early Hassan is using Destiny to pay his way through school and to help him start his own practice.
Hassan is one of the absolute worst character's I have ever encountered in a story. He is suave and charming when you first meet him but then he shows what he is about. He is a narcissist and such an asshole. He tells Destiny one thing while he keeps sleeping with his side chick named Imani. She is about the money but is in love with Hassan and was hurt when she found out he was married. But his being married never detoured her from him, or the other women he was sleeping with.
Destiny experienced being mentally, physically and emotionally abused by this guy. And after 15 years, that was when she finally thought she would file for divorce. But things had gotten so bad, I am really shocked she hung around so long. He was so disrespectful to her. The story ends leaving it open for interpretation.
I gave this story 2.5 stars.

I would like to say that I agree with some of the other viewers the aspects of how the character of the wife was portrayed I was a little disappointed and how she was very strong in the beginning and then seemed kind of week towards the middle and still stuck around even though he was cheating and she knew I was also bathroom I have the other woman also stuck around even though he got married on her and was still sleeping around even though he was promising her all these things and it was just really weird to me that they still stuck around even after he beat her up and made her have a miscarriage but then as I continue to read the book I understand the author's aspect of keeping the story line going if it was simply just a wife's Revenge then you wouldn't keep the reader is intrigued anymore so I'm really looking forward to part two of this if anyone knows what it's called please send me a link so that I can check it out and see how The Story Goes on

The attitude, vocabulary, and culture depicted in the book seem at times to be simultaneously insane and totally believable. I liked this book because it made me think, “do people really live and speak like this?” The POV characters are interesting and often have depth and justifications, but the women at times are under explained and just come off acting absurdly, the reader unable to relate or get in their heads.

Now, Lawd Jesus, Destiny and Imani are the biggest birds! Big Bird needs to get a handle on his kids because ain’t no way they’re letting this bum play in their faces like that. Hassan has officially earned a spot on my worst MMC list.

Oh My God!!!!! Utterly disgusting and speechless. This is my first time reading a Racquel Williams' book....and the writing was immensely phenomenal. I was filled with anticipation and capatived as soon as I read the first sentence.
This story was so twisted, violent, and vile, yet continuously intriguing! The creation of each character: Destiny, Imani, and Hassen, were so incredibly realistic with an overflowing abundance of details into their unique perspectives and personalities.
I can't wait to read part 2 of this series. I highly recommend this book and I'm extremely excited to read other books by this author....😲😧😦😳
