Everywhere we look in the letters of Paul we encounter ‘in Christ.’ But how many of us know why the Apostle Paul uses this expression―or ones like it―over and over again in his letters? What is so important about being in Christ? Is it possible that when Paul talks about inChristness, he is handing us a set of keys that will open up his letters and reveal what is most essential to living the Christian life? In these 100 devotional readings , we discover why inChristness is so important and how to live an in–Christ life.
In this amazing devotional, Berding mixes humor, vulnerability, and God’s truth to teach readers what it means to be “In-Christ.” Would highly recommend to anyone who is looking for their next daily devotional.
One of the best devotionals Ive ever read. I felt like I was back in "Life and Letters of Paul" class at Biola. Ken has provided us with a wonderful reminder (100 of them) about our union with Christ. I read this over a 100 days and it was a very doable project.
"The purpose of this book is to uncover and clarify how union with Christ impacts the way we as Christians live out our daily lives."- Kenneth Berding
The topic of what it looks like to live in Christ is something that I have wanted to explore more deeply and this book was a good starting point. It is formatted in a devotional layout so that you can read daily entries that touch on the subject. The first third of the book covers one's position and identity in Christ, the second, daily life in Christ and the final section covers community and mission in Christ. Each page has a scripture reference, or a few scripture references, and the daily entries often start with interesting little stories. There are 101 entries in the book as well as a section of questions for review and further reflection.
"Everything looks different when you serve others out of a response to the lavish love of Christ. Your perspective gets appropriately altered and you become so occupied with loving Christ that your actions increasingly are drive forward by that love. Every part of your being gets impacted when you live your life out of a loving relationship with the One who loved you more than life itself!" from the entry, "Controlled by the Love of Christ" page 205
This books was wonderful. I cannot recommend a better devotional. Each devotional is packed with Biblical perspective on what it means to be "in Christ" for those of us that may have read over those two works a bit two quickly.
This is my second time through this book but it is a good one, I read it as a morning devotional with the teachers in my Christian school. I loved that it related to our overseas context, teaching and challenged our faith.
