The Ellwood Chronicles #4

The Enchanter's Heart

Rate this book
The long-lost magic brings doom…

We’ve been living in the shadow of the enchanter prophecy since my magic was released, and it seems that the darkness is finally closing in. There’s chaos everywhere; Brinnswick has become a war zone. The human and magical communities are doing everything in their power to save us, but it isn’t enough. Our enemies are countless and more powerful than anything we’ve ever seen.

The country has been in turmoil since the berserkers awakened an evil power, and somehow, my magic is connected to it. Ailin doesn’t know yet that the last time this magic was released in our realm, my ancestors sacrificed one of their own in order to keep the evil at bay. I have no doubt that he would burn the world around us in order to save me, but what if my sacrifice could save the world? I don’t want to leave him—he’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me—but if my death can guarantee his life, and the lives of our coven, then I’ll do whatever it takes to keep them safe.

The Enchanter’s Heart is the fourth and final book in The Ellwood Chronicles and is a continuation of Sebastian and Ailin’s story. It contains explicit material and is intended for mature adults 18 years of age and older.

Michele is married to an awesome guy that puts up with her and all the burnt dinners she makes—hey, sometimes characters are a bit distracting, and who doesn’t plot when they’re supposed to be cooking? They live together in Baltimore, Maryland with two little monsters, a three-legged princess, a four-legged goofball, and a cutie with giant ears (aka their two kids, their two cats, and their dog). She hopes to rescue another cat soon, and if her hubby wouldn’t kill her, she’d get more than one… and maybe a few more dogs as well.

She loves creating worlds filled with lots of love, chosen family, and of course, magic, but she also likes making the characters fight for that happy ending. She hopes to one day write all the stories in her head—even if there are too many to count!

I must admit that I felt bittersweet while reading the last book in this series. I got attached to snarky Ailin and strong yet vulnerable Sebastian, Ellwood siblings, Julius, Emrys, Toby and all the others who stood against common enemy and fought in the war. There were heart-wrenching moments, sweetness and romance, bloody and gory fights as well as simple courage. I loved how magical community protected humans who had absolutely nothing to do with the prophecy, how they gave it their all.

Sebastian finally came into his powers and figured out how to use them, and together with Ailin and their family he set out to fulfill the prophecy. I enjoyed their search for the truth, their struggles and how they held each other up when it was too hard to go on. The last part was full of surprises. There was a twist I didn't see coming, and I was really worried about how it will end. I liked how the author put the past ghosts to rest, how the burning questions got answered and how the end offered a new beginning for the entire Ellwood clan. Wonderful finale! I can't wait to read the spin-off series! Younger siblings are a riot! Copy received for my honest and unbiased review

I wasn't expecting to be as emotionally destroyed as I was, but Ailin hurting makes me hurt 😭😭😭

The culmination of the berserker plot was really engaging and had plenty of twists. Seb made me want to scream as usual, and I was feeling as stressed as Ailin was!

I've really loved getting to know this coven and I can't wait to read the spin-off books for Ailin's kids.

Everyone needs their vitamin

I procrastinated on reading this because I knew it was the end of this amazing, wonderful series and that it was going to put all of my emotions, and soul, through the wringer. Was I right? Yes. Was it worth it? Absolutely! “Coven, den, whatever you want to call it, you’re a part of mine and I’m a part of yours...” This family, I love and adore each and every one of them and I really want to be a part of it and have a Bonded of my own. What a beautiful gift, it brought tears to my eyes. Just saying that Toby breaks my heart, and I can’t wait for his story. The kids, who really aren’t kids, well, that’s why gray hairs exist, and I just want to protect them all.

Emrys and Jules “But any place I go with you will feel like home.” I love, love, love these two and am so happy to visit with them again. Ailin and Seb make me laugh with their squabbling. I can’t get enough of it. Plus, they are both so sexy when they show their powers but it’s also beautiful seeing them meld together. Gah, the bond these two have. There aren’t enough words to describe how happy and how much it makes me feel. BTW, I’m so with Seb on spiders. *shudder* Also, A is scary when angry, but grrr, his anger is so deserved.

After an intense, fierce battle and some heartbreaking, hair raising scenes that had me biting back screams but always counteracted with a foundation of love, this is an amazing book and series that I will always revisit as one of my go-to reads. The worlds that Michele Notaro weaves with her words is outstanding. The creativity and magic never fails to leave me speechless. My only question is how long do I have to wait for the next book? An epic conclusion to a phenomenal series that everyone should read.

Well... That was fa**ing anticlimactic.
How the heck that story went from 3 books in a row ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "i didn't sleep last night" to "Booooooring war ala Middle Ages. Skip. Skip. Skip. Skip. WTF happened with the author!?"
I wish I never started that last book. It was completely different from the rest of the series and a complete disaster.
Definitely disappointed!

Sometimes, when I read about Sebastian and Ailin, I forget than they, and their family, are not real people, and Brinnswick is not a real place. I feel so much for them that my heart hurts a bit everytime they hurt, and I can't help but smile stupidly at the screen when they're happy.

I love this book, and it was a perfect ending to the Ellwood Chronicles, but also ... Thank god for spin-off series. I can't wait for my boy Thayer's story, he deserves all the good things.

I don’t want to leave Seb and Ailin behind as main characters. I’m so freakin glad that there’s a spin-off series but I want more of them!!

This was an excellent conclusion with only one thing I wish had been done slightly differently and I think that’s pretty awesome. Some of those time jumps were legit jump scares though.

Sinceramente me esperaba algo totalmente distinto.

Ailin, Sebastian and their coven are in a middle of a war against the berserkers.
While they have to fight in this war, they also must discover what’s happen to Sebastian and how to figure out the prophecy without losing his life in the process.
And that’s it, the last book of the Ellwood Chronicles is finally out.
Ailin and Sebastian are going to live the most important moments of their life. They know that and they try to be ready as possible, but nothing is that simple, they must make difficult choice in order to save the world.
The book was fabulous, full of love and action. I cried a lot, I won’t lie, I practically cried during my entire read, I was so caught up in the story.
The book end this series and it did it very well. Michele Notaro surprised me, I didn’t see the end coming and she just make me cried harder.
I never liked the ends of series, most of the time, the final book is bittersweet for me, but not this time, it was a beautiful story, the author makes sure to didn’t let things unanswered and I really appreciated that particularly.
Even if I will miss the guys like crazy, I’m ready to discover another story or adventure from Michele Notaro!

I thoroughly enjoyed the conclusion to the series. I just have a couple of minor gripes that brought my rating down a bit. First, I think the war went on way too long. Actually in thinking about it, the author did a good job portraying the frustrations of being on the losing side of a war that shows no sign of ending. It was just frustrating and heartbreaking to read. And speaking of heartbreaking, I was heartbroken over the conclusion to the war and the loss of innocence that came from it. I saw what was coming a mile away and it still broke my heart when it happened. That’s not to say that we didn’t get a satisfying HEA for Sebastian and Ailin. I thought the overall conclusion to their arc was great. I also would have liked a couple of chapters written from Emrys and Julius’s perspective at the end. We know how they ended up; I just wish we could have read it from their side of the story. All in all, it was a great ending to the series, and I am highly anticipating reading the spin-off series.

Just....Wow! This is a series that has to be read in order and those who are fans, will be blown away by the final book.
There is so much going on, right from the start, but everything holds and flows really well together. We get to enjoy several characters POV but mostly stay with Sebastian and Ailin. With how much they both go through, it's necessary to follow the story through their eyes but it does help having different perspectives and understanding in certain events.
Following on from Witch's Blood, there is so much destruction with the Beserkers raining down chaos around Brinnswick and Arronston. There is another evil force at play though and our MC's struggle to catch up and find out what it is. The Ellwood family truly come together in this book, bringing their love and strength to each other, especially in times of need. Ailin remains true to self and carries the weight of the world on his shoulders and with so much happening, it becomes an issue with him needing to save everyone, stop everything and stay a step ahead of the enemy.
Even with so much going on (battles, magic, fear, death) there is always time for tender moments between the Ellwoods and even a laugh once in a while which definitely helps to balance the story and make things more manageable for the characters and the reader. Emotions run high throughout the whole book and the author has perfectly conveys everything. I felt right there with the characters, experiencing the highs of love and the lows of loss and war.
Cannot recommend this series enough! Michele Notaro has provided a perfect send off for Seb and Ailin though I'm hoping to hear from them again in the future :-)

The Enchanter's Heart is fourth and last installment in the Ellwood Chronicles and, whilst the focus is on Ailin and Sebastian, some chapters are told from Emrys and Julius' points of view. The story picks up the narrative where Sebastian is fighting for his life. Oh, and there's the tiny matter of the war still raging against the seemingly indestructible beserkers and centaurs...

The Enchanter's Heart is epic in a very true sense of the word: our heroes are on a journey to solve the mystery of why they (and their magic) are pivotal to saving the world, then fight every battle until the war against the beserkers and centaurs is won. Along the way there is everything from the warmth of family and the tenderness of lovers to the horrors of war and building trust with potential allies, whilst Ailin and Sebastian navigate shocking twists and turns.

I loved the strength of Seb and Ailin's relationship, how little it wavered during the trials and tribulations in this book. I totally rode the emotional roller-coaster with them; laughing at their snark one minute, crying with their heartbreak the next and was on the edge of my seat throughout the action. Seeing the rest of the Ellwood coven grow throughout the story was also extremely well written...I can't wait to see what Michele Notaro has in store for them, especially Toby!

I had a sneaky suspicion before starting this that I'd be left with a huge book hangover and I was right on the money. The Enchanter's Heart is an amazing finale to the Ellwood Chronicles...an absolute 5* read.

Wow. Just... Wow. Mind blown.

The three previous books have been leading up to this final one. War is here. Seb and Ailin are fighting for their lives, the lives of their family and the lives of their world. And it all hinges around a prophecy that is written about Seb. Ailin, his family, Emrys an a few others have also been sucked into the prophecy through proximity to Sebastian and now they have to fight like never before.

The long lost magic has resurfaced and it's taking aim directly at Sebastian, intent on killing him and enslaving the world. Sacrifices will be made, people will die, but who will ultimately fall, the evil beings intent on conquering and destroying the world or will the Ellwood Coven be destroyed, and with it the entire world of Brinnswick?

Definitely read the prior books first and then hang on to your hats, have tissues and strong drink or your cuddle blanket near by coz this book is gonna put you through the wringer before the story ends.

This book finished the series off with a bang!

This was such a great ending to a terrific series!! The last few books have really been building up to this pivotal war between the forces of good and evil, and The Enchanter’s Heart concludes the tale wonderfully.

The book begins right where the previous one left off, the same exact scene in fact. We’re immediately thrown into the chaos surrounding the beginning of war and the suspense, danger, and action don’t let up until the end.

Ailin and Seb’s relationship is so solid at this point and I absolutely loved their dynamic. While they still have some bumps along the way, they’re truly partners to one another. I LOVED seeing Seb really embrace his role as an adult and parent in the kids’ lives. And all the kids continue to be adorable and amazing! I just love their family!!

Buckle up, because the last five or so chapters of this book had me wide-eyed and biting my nails! Michele Notaro wraps up her series in such a heartbreaking and satisfying way, and I cannot WAIT to read her upcoming spin-off series!

An epic conclusion to a great series!!

An absolutely stunning conclusion to this series!

I don't think I'll ever be ready to say goodbye to Seb and Ailin, but Michele wrote an incredible conclusion to their story that left my heart full of joy. What I love so much about this universe is how unique and magical each being is. Even after reading the first three books, there was (and is) still so much more for me to learn about this world. The twists and turns of their journey were heart-wrenching, captivating, emotional, and so entirely unexpected that I was on the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading. While the adventure had me captivated, the deep and boundless love between the main characters made this book a truly stunning work that captured my heart and sucked me in. I'm thrilled that Michele has spin-offs planned for the younger men of this series, and I can't wait to see what comes next!

(Read April 2020)

Books 1 & 2 are my favorites in the series. My interest went down considerably after that. The storyline became too convoluted and drawn out. Honestly, I was glad when it was all over with. I read primarily for romance, which this had little of. Overall, it was a pretty good ending, but I have no plans to reread it.

👎 I wasn't a fan of all the bad language either. The 1st book had 207 F-words. This one has 282. Really unnecessary.

What a fantastic ride!

Wow! I don’t want to give spoilers so I’ll keep this short.

Seb & A went through hell in this series and this last book really put them through the ringer.

Through it all Michele wove a beautiful story about love & family. The one your born into and the one you make.

Totally worth reading!

This review relates to the series as a whole, rather than individual novels.
Ugh.. I guess I am reading a very different book than everyone else... It's Michele Notaro, and I do like some of her other works (looking at you Taoree), so I naturally assumed it would also be the case with this series. Unfortunately, that's not how I feel after finishing reading it.

Relationship and character development: Big fat 0 stars.
I genuinely cannot stand Sebastian, he is written like an immature teenager, whiny, crying at the drop of the hat, drama queen. And he supposed to be this all-powerful enchanter, all Top, Ex military and a homicide detective with BCA. His relationship with Ailin is beyond a joke. The crying, moaning, all the doom and gloom and the drama around the whole "you didn't tell me about the real nature of the cat" was so incredibly idiotic, that a teenager would probably write that better. It genuinely made me laugh - and not in a good way. The whole relationship dynamic is like that, over the top, nauseatingly stupid with very little emotional engagement. Ffs - the dudes supposed to be fighting to save the world. The are both all-powerful male leads - and yet it feels like I have been reading a rough script of gender swapped "Real Housewives"... The only thing that's missing between those two dudes is shopping trips to the mall, mutual hair braiding and coloring in pink unicorns...

Plot and Action: 3 stars
Thats the only reason this whole series has any redeeming qualities. The worldbuilding is interesting (chaotic at times) but there is definitely something there. Tons of inconsistencies, but whatever, it's a low effort fantasy book, I am not expecting "Game of Thrones" here. The ending, oh the ending... pretty much what everyone else has said: last book was a snoozefest with bunch of glued up ideas, almost as if author is rushing to finish the series and move on.

Overall, massive disappointment. It is hard to believe the same author wrote Taoree...
I will not be reading the spin off: "The Brinnswick Chronicles", I don't think my sanity can take any more of this tripe.

This is the Fourth and Final book in The Enchanter's series :The Elmwood chronicles

This was a fantastic read and a great ending to this series although I thought some things could have been explained a little better like the Fae twins . They were kind of thrown in there at the last book with little explanation I mean I get that they will have a bigger role in the next round of book's if what happened at the end of this series is any indication . But for them to have such a big role when they were barely seen through out the whole series really threw me off and something else I don't get how something that was created in the Enchanter's home world was able to be handled and controlled by witch's who come from our world such as the power of three . It would have made more sense if Sebastian had been the one who had taken the power back to his own home world purified it there then dispensed it there or Sebastian could have found a way too take it somewhere oh I don't know like the tree where no one but Sebastian whom these book's where basically about could get to . Because that place is outside of space and time I don't think that the lead up to that point with the three young Elmwood witches made sense . I think that g young Elmwood witches were gonna be in the next series of books it shouldn't have been with something that basically involved the enchanters but witches . There is so much that happened between the enchanter's and the witches that hunted them down that this new series could have been about that we know that jealousy and fear against the enchanter's triggered the killing spree that was Ailin's great fear for Sebastian . Other than these plot holes this was a great series and I'm looking forward to the continuation of this world with the young Elmwood witches .

Well, it is amazing that the end of a series can leave you with such a different feeling than when you began it. After Book 1 in this series, I wasn't sure what I thought about it, but I was definitely interested. Book 2 pulled me in a bit more, Book 3 got things moving, and Book 4 tied everything up. All in all I really enjoyed this series.

I always say that I'm interested in unique storylines. When you read as much as I do, sometimes you see the same tropes over and over - especially in the paranormal world. This was a new and different story that brought together witches, vampires and an enchanter (well, to be honest, there were also centaurs, beserkers, sprites....and well....all kinds of creatures). It also had a lot of cross species relationships which is not something you see every day. Regardless, the author was able to weave a story together that pulled the reader (me) in and kept me interested until the very end. It also left the ending open for a spin off, which I just might take a peek at sometime in the future.

I can't say that I loved the narrator, but I will say that he grew on me. I mostly tried to read rather than listen but ended up listening to at least a portion of all 4 books. The way he read Sebastian never settled right with me, but I did get used to it.

The ending was just the right blend of HEA with problems being resolved and the world being restored. All in all it was a win.

I am so sad that this is the last book in The Ellwood Chronicles series as I love this world and all of the amazing characters in it. This story has a little bit of everything in it and spans several years as Ailin and Seb face even more danger than in the previous books as they become embroiled in a vicious war. They and their coven will have to give all that they have if there is even a chance for them to win. I love how Ailin and Seb's relationship continues to evolve and how their love never falters no matter what struggles they face. They balance each other perfectly and they are learning more about each other every day. The secondary characters add so much to these stories as well and I love the beautiful family they have made. There are some surprising twists, a lot of love, intense danger, a ton of action and a perfect ending in this well written story. I am so looking forward to reading Toby and Thayer's book in the spin-off series as well as hoping for some glimpses of my favorite characters.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
