Tired of waiting around for true love, Cindy--a young girl from the Farrington Kingdom whose father died years ago, decides to take matters into her own hands.
King Caspian II organises a ball for his son and invites every eligible woman in the Kingdom, meaning Cindy's invited too.
The trouble is, her stepmother, Ida, rips Cindy’s dress to shreds and forbids her to attend the ball. Cindy trips over a drunken a woman of the night who's blessed with extraordinary magic. She transforms Cindy's tattered dress into a beautiful ball gown, a carriage from two beggars and sends her on her way.
But the Prince doesn’t catch her attention, instead it’s King Caspian himself who lures her into his bed. After a night of pure passion with the King, Cindy discovers that he isn't human at all, but a vampire, hell-bent on having her in his bed again.

I only made it to 57% so it feels a bit wrong to call it terrible, but it reads like it was written by a confused 13 year old girl who wants to "suck guys off" but doesn't want to be a "slut" and wants to have a king fall in love with her for no reason, but hey he's also a vampire too because why not?! The plot is even thinner and more nonsensical than the characters.
I personally found it more obnoxious than funny, but if you find the quotes funny and don't mind poor editing and grammar, then I guess you might enjoy it.

Supremely bad

This was poorly written, wretchedly edited, and overall just disappointing. The premise was decent but it's as though a seventh grader wrote it under a tight deadline.

This book was just awful. The MMC was so terrible. Him saying that Cindy can REPLACE Catherine??? What type of man says something like that about his dead wife?!?

The author could not stop talking about how old he looked and it just sounded unattractive. Even though he is supposed to be a handsome slightly older man, the author made him sound geriatric.

Additionally, Cindy was a hot mess. She would swing back and forth so much on topics like her reputation and King Caspian that it was hard to take her seriously. She was so stupid and I hate a stupid main character.

Ultimately nothing in this story made sense and the world building was non existent.

...and Cindy cried

Cindy always dreamed of marrying a prince. That didn't end up happening, but between nauseatingly frequent bouts of crying somehow she lands the king. But mostly she cries.

I tried to read it because I needed a short book for the afternoon. Although I found the premise interesting, I couldn't keep reading. The writing was repetitive and Cindy was annoying, childish at times.

This was actually terrible lol

Like i am normally an easy sell. But this was boring, immature, and terribly jarring and inconsistent. I wish I liked it. What a cool idea. But it fell terribly short for me.

This book quite literally had me laughing out loud with how terrible and insane this smut book was. Like Cindy went back and forth between worrying about her reputation, getting fucked by a geriatric looking king, and then not worrying about her reputation. There was no character development and both Caspian and Cindy acted like pick-me's the entire time. Also Caspian is low key a stalker and talks big about his dead wife Catherine but then basically sells his memories of his beloved wife for a 24yr old that he's spent a whole maybe two hours with the entire book. Its ending seemed like the budget for it was cut off and the author just wanted to tie up loose ends. I gave it two stars because I didn't hate it enough to not read the entire way through... But I was pretty close to dropping it at 30% in.

Good Grief. I want to know what book all the 4 and 5 star reviews read... cause it wasn’t this one. There was no world building, I take it that it was supposed to be set in older times, but the dialogue is completely modern (pet peeve). The characters all suck, “Cindy” doesn’t want to be a slut but hey, I will ignore my voice of reason and go fuck this older guy that she just met because she wants to be ravaged by a dominent male for her first time. What. The. Fuck. Just no. It read like an old bad porn movie... I seriously pictured Ron Jeremy as the king... then got grossed out.

The lack of any sort of depth of character building and world building makes this “story” a one dimensional bunch of clap trap. Just no. Was this written by a teenager who wrote it to sound “cool and worldly”? If so.. you missed the ship sweetheart. By a whole lot.

I wish I could get the hour or so wasted on reading this thing back... No me gusta!

TLDR: Don't bother. Bad writing, bad editing, bad characters, plot holes, comes off like a 13 year old free wrote and didn't proof read. Seems like there were multiple iterations of the story and the issues between them were never resolved. Confusing time line, unsure when this takes place the setting and the language used is confusing.

I really enjoy Cinderella stories but this was just such a disappointment.
Our main character doesn't embody any of the characteristics of a Cinderella archetype. Cinderella above all is supposed to be unfailingly kind but we never see a single kind act or thought out of our main character. She is quick to anger, can't control her temper, she claims to be well mannered but we never see that either.
There is a lot of continuity errors that make major holes in the story. A lot of plot holes and decisions that don't make sense.
The characters will make a decision to do something but then do the opposite thing to what they are saying they want to do, which makes no sense and then they are flabbergasted that they failed to do what they wanted or just forget about their ultimate goal in the first place. For example: the king sends out his guards to look for Cindy and is over at her friend Red's house when they show up looking for her. When she hears this she is overjoyed and sees this as a grand gesture of his love. She decides to accept him and become his wife. She realizes that they would have already been to her house by now so for some reason she tells Red not to tell them shes here and sneaks out the back to go back home?? She then confronts her step mother about how shes going to marry the King and own all their property so the step mother takes action against her. Why wouldn't she just go with the guards in the first place? Why did she go back to her step mother? This just makes no sense. Also, Red lived close to town then Cindy by a lot according to the story so how did they go to Cindys house first?
What era this is supposed to take place in is super confusing. What they have and the language and references they use are all over the place.
For some reason in order to inherit her fathers estate she must both marry well and also have her own steady income? But that makes absolutely no sense. If she married well she wouldn't live on or need the estate anymore and women in this time frame don't work or have steady incomes. At the end the King tells her she can sell her paintings whenever she wants and this can count as her steady income, throughout the story this was also her own plan for her income but that would never count as steady income. Not even now let alone back then when far less people would spend money on paintings and when paintings would go for far less.
At one point she tries to sell a painting to earn money for a dress for the ball. She says the painting must be absolutely amazing to get the price she wants so she paints a picture of her dead mother. That's touching and all but why would this random wealthy business man who used to do business with her father want a picture of her dead mother? This man is supposed to be close with Cindy and had been close with her father. He's supposed to be very invested in her art but we never hear about him until she tries to sell him the painting and we never hear about him ever again.
Allegedly, when Cindys father was alive he used to sell her paintings often and she painted all the time. For some reason when she paints the picture of her mother to try to buy a ball gown her step mother had no idea she could really paint?
At one point the King goes to the witch in the forest to get her help to find and free Cindy. He says he has no choice and only her help can help him defeat the evil step mother and the powers she suddenly has, which has so many weird plot holes about it. In his past the witch even made a prediction that he would have to come to her in the future for help with this problem. So he's there now and he has to trade the love of his previous wife for the help he needs but then the witch doesn't actually do anything? Like he sees a vision of where Cindy is at that moment for a few seconds but he already has his guard following them so he already knows that. Why include the witch at all except to try to explain how the step mother suddenly has weird powers?
Speaking of the step mothers weird powers. When Cindy tries to tell the king the step mother is blackmailing her-which has its whole own set of problems- to not marry him, the step mother spells her to be unable to tell him and speaks through Cindys lips to tell the king she doesn't care for him and doesn't want to be with him and forces Cindy to get up and walk away. In this conversation the King already knew something was going on and had said he was determined to get answers from her but then with one sentence from her he just lets her go without getting any answers?? If Cindys step mother could force her to say and do things why didn't she force Cindy to marry before now? She had attempted to convince Cindy to marry a farmer and she refused, why not force her? Then later when they are at the wedding and Cindy says no to that same farmer at the alter suddenly the step mother can't force Cindy to say anything because that is not how her powers work? What? This makes no sense.
There are so many weird holes around their ages and how much time has gone by.
At one point the King says that he was a vampire before he met his wife and she initially was scared of him but after he explained himself to her she accepted him. He also says that he didn't think he could get a human pregnant so he was shocked and elated to discover that his wife got pregnant. The wife dies after giving birth to their child. The Prince is now 20 and it has been 20 years since the queen died, however, then his story changes to that he has only been a vampire for 20 years. So that makes no sense.
When and how he became a vampire changes twice. His age changes twice. The princes age changes twice. How he met the witch changes twice.
Most things in the book change repeatedly, it comes off like the author wrote a couple different iterations of the book and never read through it to reconcile the changes.
The author seemed to set up a bunch of problems and then never explored them again. Throughout the story the author talks about how Cindy is hated in her community and how they will never accept her as queen, the author never addresses how this will be corrected.
The author repeatedly talks about the Princes horrible attitude, the Princes weird conception and alludes to the fact that maybe the prince wasn't the kings son. She repeatedly brings up how vain and horrible he is and how he isn't smart enough to be a leader but these issues are never addressed or resolved.
The author brings up the weirdness surrounding the princes choice in bride but this is never explored or resolved.
The author repeatedly throughout the story brings up the captain of the guard and how he may be super corrupt but this is never explored or resolved.
The author talks about how the step mother has people in the castle helping her but this is never explored or resolved.
Red is interested in a man who flirts with Cindy often. they have an on again off again relationship and he ultimately betrays Cindy for the step mother but this is never addressed.
There is a whole changeling and fairy story line brought in that is never explored again or resolved.
Neither the vampire issues or witch issues are ever flushed out.

I could go on and on. There are just so many problems in this book.

The language and editing is probably the biggest issue.
This book comes off like a 13 year old just free wrote a story and published it. It's immature and ill thought out. It has a really good premise but that doesn't save it.

In the hands of a good author and a good editor this could be a great book.

There wasn't really anything original about the story. I really hoped that there would be an unexpected twist but I found it almost dull. I like alternate views on fairy tales usually but I wad sadly disappointed with this one.

I think i may have overdosed on fairy-tale retelling's need a break..... It was a nice easy read although the stepmother is truly evil in this version, i wanted to jump in the pages and throttle her, Cinderella is a complete pushover i just couldn't get behind her happy ending when she expected everyone to help her or fight her battles she had about as much backbone as a slug......

The vampire king, the fact he's a Vampire plays a very small role in this its very light paranormal, but a light read i enjoyed.

I have to say that I did enjoy this story very much. The writing was very well put together and had a wonderful flow to the story. However, Cindy drives me a little batty at times because she would swing from one extreme to the next. However, I loved the characters and how well developed they were. Martha is the hilarious. I loved her whit and banter throughout the story. Caspian is by far the greatest of the characters due to his confidence and alpha dominance. Ida and the stepsisters were absolutely horrid but wasn't that how they were in the fairy tale as well. Sometimes the writing did seem aimed at a slightly younger reading group but over all it was very well written. It is a great twist on the fairy tales and is definitely worth reading. It has a little mystery and drama involved with it. I voluntarily review and advanced reader copy of this book.

This has to be one of my new favorite fairy tale retellings. It's Cinderella for adult paranormal romance fans. And I loved every minute of it. It had me consumed from the first line to the last. I was instantly connected to Cindy and I wanted all who did her wrong to pay. This was a great story about how life can be unfair, but we all have choices to make. It was an epic love story. Who doesn't wanna fall for a vampire king? Talk about silver fox! And if you want steamy romance, you got it! And this was a story about revenge. Not giving away those details. Just know your blood will be boiling and you'll be demanding justice yourself. I love that it's a series. I definitely want more. This narrator did a great job. Her voice matched the fairy tale essence of the story. A must read/listen for paranormal romance fans.

Cinderella (aka Cindy) Rutherford has had a hard life since her father died and left her under the guardianship of her stepmother and with two stepsisters. At age 24, she has one year to fulfill the stipulation in her father’s will to take sole control of her estate or forfeit everything to her stepmother.

King Caspian has been the ruler of Kingdom Farrington for a long time. He has lost the love of his life and wants to step down from the throne. First, he must get his wayward and deeply vain son up to snuff to rule the kingdom. King Caspian decides to throw a ball so his son can choose a bride and settle down. He also must deal with the pesky corrupted royal guards. Maybe he can make time for a second chance at love.

I wanted this novel to be exciting. I had read Martha’s story first, which referenced the characters and plotline of this novel throughout the novel. I enjoy retellings of fairytales since the original ones were dark and sinister and not like the ones Disney produces. The novel started off well with Cindy being a strong, independent woman that could take care of herself. The constant allusions to Cindy’s “bad girl time” began to be annoying. There was never any definite information on how long and what happened during that time. The continuity of the story often changed. At the beginning of the novel, Cindy regretted her wild time after her father’s death due to a sexual assault. However, by the middle of the novel, Cindy’s memories about that time were about her lover Tom. I also think Tom was her father’s name, so I got somewhat confused with that. Also, King Caspian had an advisor named Jeremy, however, in one scene the name changes to Constant. Towards the end of the novel, one of the huntsmen is referred to as “Roweling” and then a few pages later he is referred to as “Roweland.” King Caspian was a conundrum for me. When Cindy first leaves him, he calls his guards to find her because he does not want to alert his kingdom to his supernatural powers. His inner monologue states several times he could find her immediately with his supernatural powers. However, he never uses those supernatural powers to find her but uses them to fight others and “glamorize” wedding guests. Huh?! Throughout the novel, King Caspian talks about using his supernatural powers to hide his identity to find out who is corrupt in his royal guards, yet by the end of the novel he has not proven anything. He never questions the stepmother about who helped her, and the stepsisters continue to live the good life. There were more inner monologues and descriptive information than dialogue between characters. I am a dialogue girl, so found myself skimming pages to get to the end of the story.

Okay guys, I truly wanted to like this book. I love reading different takes on fairy tales and I loved that this author had the idea of fixing the paranormal and the fantastic together. However, I couldn't even make it past the first chapter because I was that bored. I really wished I read other people's reviews before starting this book.

I'm not sure why it specifies in the parentheses that this is an "adult fairy tale." There didn't seem to be anything adult about the plot. The heroine comes across as a woman with daddy issues as she is so desperate to be loved by Charles that she's willing to lose her virginity to him even though they truly do not have a courtship. She hangs out with him one time and is willing to risk everything for someone she barely met in the marketplace. It annoyed me how much of a ditz the heroine seemed to be. It was very difficult to root for her because she was dumb in too many ways. She came across like a 13 year old child who thought she knew what was best when in reality she knew nothing at all.

The author tries to make the book feel historical but fails to do this with the language used to tell the story. Not to mention I do not think Cinderella would be willing to give her virginity so quickly and not be worried about ruining her reputation especially for the time period. If the author wants to improve this story, she should read some Jane Austen to accurately depict the characters in this story.

Lastly, I hate when author's underestimate the intelligence of their readers. Please do not summarize the story line. I could get more satisfaction reading a children's book than I could this "adult" novel. The author needs to work on setting the reader in the scene and allow the story to unfold like a movie. We as the reader are told too many things and we experience very little which makes reading less enjoyable.

Overall, I am giving this book a one star but it deserves to be given less because of how poorly written it is. This book needs a lot of work but then again that's why it's being priced for .99 cents on Amazon.

A new more adult .....

.......

twist on an old fairy tale.

Cinderella or Cindy as she is more commonly known in this book, still has the nasty step mother and step sisters but in this story there are several new angles that play out.

Magic and witches along with a very drunk fairy/hooker add some more adult content and variation on the theme.

In this particular tale Cindy was best friends with Red of Little Red Riding Hood fame but they fall out over Charles, a forest ranger. She hears they have broken up the relationship and Cindy reconnects with him in the market.

The ball is held for the Prince, but this is where the story is the same where Cindy tries to go but her step mother and sisters stop her. The story changes from there.

Cindy makes the ball but another twist awaits her there.

The story changes from there, leading you through some cool twists before you reach the gem ending.

This story has a few sex scenes that are quite graphical in nature so might not suit everyone's tastes.

The characters are well-written although a couple are well known established characters already, the twists the author takes the story makes it a worthwhile read. The story never stops it's flow and was a joy to read.

The series continues with Alpha King (Adult Fairy Tale 2 Red Riding Hood)

Don't judge a book by it's cover!!!

I definitely got sucked in by the very Beautifully done cover! I also love a good fairytale and the twist compelled me to read it!!! I am so so glad that I read this through kindle unlimited and I didn't have to pay for this rubbish! There were so many spelling and grammatical errors I don't think the author properly edited this book!!! This story didn't flow well and the characters were not very likable! The vernacular the author used also did jive well with the setting of the book. There was to much mordant slang used. Character development could have been better!
Spoilers ahead:
I don't think the King being a Vampire really added this story at all and the whole part where he glamours himself in to a fire ranger that Cinderella has a crush on in the beginning was just ridiculous and pointless and really didn't add to the story it just made it more confusing. I also feel that the author continues to repeat things over and over and over again just fill the content! I gave it two star because this had potential, but it completely missed it mark! The steamy love scenes were just okay and I feel like there Love connection was to instantaneous with no real development other than great sex! So I don't think I will be reading anymore books by this author!

Right so these are the things that I disliked:
1. MC is annoying, weak and a pushover. Absolutely miserable and pathetic. I know Cinderella is supposed to be pure, innocent and kind. But being kind doesn't mean you let people walk all over you. She wouldn't stand up for herself unless she's cornered like she did at the end when she finally said no.
2. INSTALOVE, she fell in love with the guy after an hour of sex. Again, pathetic. She hasn't spoken to him for more than 5 mins, danced together for 2, then got screwed by him and now she's madly in love with him. I mean, come on... I know she's really young so her hormones and lack of experience can make her do utterly stupid things.
3. Caspian is just bland and a bit angry. I just don't like him.
4. Writing is very poor. It looks like the book was written by a teenager. Cindy keeps having flashbacks in the middle of doing something else and at first you're confused about what's going on; then flashback finishes and she carries on with stuff and then you realise that it was a flashback right there. It's so annoying. There's lots of modern swearing that doesn't match medieval times. Curses should be taken from that time period and then it would be more consistent.

I will not read any more books by this author.

DNF: 35%.

The concept of this book could be interesting: a darker version of Cinderella with vampires (according to the title, because at 35% the possibility of them existing was never mentioned). But the way it's narrated is awful. There's a lot of repetition, the pacing is messy and it feels like another round of edition was missing.

I think I could have continued reading if at least the romance had been better, but when Cindy meets the king, it's insta-lust. There's no development and no mystery about his nature.

This is one of those books that sounds like a good idea but isn't well executed to be interesting.

I loved the way this story was told this is not your regular Cinderella story oh no it is HOT! King Caspian and Cindy aka Cinderella have a relationship that is on fire for a while. Cindy of coarse stayed with her evil stepmother who had some tricks the likes Cindy had never seen before so Cindy didn't know what she was suppose to do, she tried being strong and aggressive but her stepmother was one step ahead every time. Her Stepsisters were so hateful and called her names and treated her like she was their maid, you know the story except the King was pretty slick himself and decided he needed to take matters into his own hands hence the ball, but he made a mistake that set his romance with Cindy back to zero. But then the crazy started to happen and Cindy didn't have any way to stop it but she took another chance that changed everything for a while until a friend thought getting drunk was more fun than helping Cindy. A very good suspense romance. It is a well written story and the characters seem to be quite entertaining. I was given a copy as a gift from the author and I have provided a review with out obligation.

I was intrigued by The Vampire King’s premise—a steamy adult Cinderella retelling with a vampire twist—but the execution left me a bit unsure. The narration grated on me; there was a certain lilt in the narrator’s voice that just didn’t sit right and distracted from the story.

The plot felt more like a Cinderella retelling than a true vampire tale, which wasn’t what I expected from the title. The setting was confusing too—a strange mix of horses and carriages alongside references that felt way more modern, like recreating a painting from a photograph. I wish the timeframe had been clearer.

On the plus side, I really loved the portrayal of the prostitutes—they were given more depth and seemed sex worker positive, which was refreshing. Also, as a lifelong Disney fan, I so wish Cindy’s dress had been blue instead of red. That little detail pulled me out of the story more than it should have.

Overall, it was an interesting read but didn’t quite hit the mark for me as a vampire story.

Zbytek - klišé upír, naprosto nerealistická... ani insta-love to není, jelikož tam chyběla druhá půlka toho termínu. Lust, my ass. Takřka od první kapitoly jsem to četla už jen zběžně, jelikož jsem to chtěla dokončit, abych mohla s čístým svědomím dát 1*.

Unique story

So, 3 stars for this story because of the writing. It was truly a fun story to read, which is why I continued after the first couple of pages. However, I felt the book was weakly written. It felt like this was a young writer with potential, but needed to dig deeper, be more articulate, make me feel like I was part of the story. I feel like the vulgar trash talk was an approach to make this book more crude, or real, but just reinforced my thought that this writer was immature. Anyway, cool story with a twist on Cinderella. I liked the different characters emerging. No real depth to the characters. And the writer starts goes off on tangents, such as the witch being owed a favor by the King, and really never goes any deeper. So, he gives up his immortality for info, what about the favor? Why bring this up if there is no purpose to the story. Just saying!

Wow that fairy-tale had one hell of a twist. And I loved it!
This book was so well-written and toughly engaging. I love
paranormal romance and this one was great. I cannot wait
to read more.

This is a spin on Cinderella. I loved her fairy godmother in
this one; she was more of the happy hooker but was a blast.
I love how she meets her true love but she does not even
know it. Oh and her best friend is red riding hood. And she is
fierce. But in typical fashion her stepmom is a monster. Only
she is so much worse than the original tale. But when she
finally falls in love it may just surprise you who it turns out to
be. And what he is willing to do to get his Cindy back by his side.

Now before I ruin this for you I will leave off here. I hope you
enjoy this book as much as I did. If you do like this book,
please consider leaving a review. The Authors really like it
when you do; they value your opinions too

Maybe my expectations were too high for something that never really pretended to be anything more than erotica, but this just did not do it for me.
The tone of the writing and the word choice was so incredibly off for a story that was meant to be fantasy romance (in a fantasy world with horse-drawn carriages, castles, and vampire kings, terms like "slut" and "giving head" and "boobs" just really do not seem to fit. Faaaaar too casual.)
Within about ten minutes of meeting Cindy, the King says that he's going to take her upstairs and give her an orgasm. Offputting. Can we get at least a little bit of character/relationship development beforehand, please? The characters act like horny teenagers, and not in a fun, charming way either.
I had zero emotional attachment to the characters, the story moved at a very strange pace, and the writing was just poor. Not for me.

This storyline had great potential. It was a bit different and deviated a bit from the original story. I quite liked the concept.

Its a shame there were so many negatives. The writing was just horrible in places. Some things were rushed and resulted in key important details missing leaving certain people robotic. Emotions were lacking in places and characters lacked depth.

The average PNR novel that reads quick , has a decent storyline and enough detail runs at probably 220 to 250 pages. This book had 183 pages and anyone who knows my reviews knows I mention page count a lot. I think it holds a reflection of the writing quality. Had Joanna added in key details and fleshed out everything well, with the amount of action she had going she would be reaching the 300 page mark. This just shows how much was lacking.

I have read other fairytale retelling and unfortunately this is at the bottom.
