A Month-by-Month Guide to Using Celestial Wisdom in Your Yoga Practice Featuring poses, meditations, visualizations, and breathing exercises, Yoga by the Stars invites you to journey through the wheel of the zodiac and discover how its symbolism inspires new and exciting yoga sequences. This hands-on book presents an extraordinary approach that connects the astrological signs to a yearlong cycle of yoga practice. Each month's zodiac sign helps you improve your wellness and gain insights into your life, regardless of your personal sign. Aries empowers your inner warrior in the spring. Libra helps you create balance in the fall. Capricorn gives you the strength to transcend your limitations in the winter. Jilly Shipway, author of Yoga Through the Year , shows you how to make your practice shine through specially chosen affirmations, asanas, correspondences, and more. This book is a vital resource for expanding your awareness and enjoying the gifts of the zodiac.
A unique idea presented in a clear, easy to use way. I admit I totally love the yoga short hand style drawings used. They are easy to understand and an entire sequence of positions can be compacted into a short amount of space so you do not have to worry about things such as turning the page. This has always been a barrier with me on trying to practice yoga from a book as with actual photos, you can only fit so much in a page. While I love books, yoga from a book has always been difficult for me. This really changed that for me, and once there is green grass and not a foot of snow on the ground, I look forward to taking this book and these sequences outside to practice.
The premise of the book is different than any I have seen before either. These asanas are designed to work with the different signs of the zodiac and can be used in a variety of different ways. Being an Aquarius, I checked out my birth sign first. Shipway of course gives different ideas on how and when to use these sequences. I look forward to using these on full moons to perform the sequences associated with the constellation the moon will be in for each one.
Thank you, NetGalley, Jilly Shipway, and Llewelyn Publishers, for this advanced copy. Yoga by the Stars includes yoga practices inspired by the zodiac wheel; this consists of asanas, meditations, visualizations, and breathing exercises. I’ve honestly never considered the symbolism between yoga practice and zodiac signs, yet reading the book and completing some of the sequences feels intuitive. Jilly Shipway does an excellent job of providing information on the zodiac wheel, the poses, the breathwork, and mantras to get even the most novice yogi going. The book moves through the months of the year, touching on each zodiac sign, with the intention of improved wellness and personal insight. The book is filled with a wealth of information. As a yoga teacher, I enjoyed her creative sequences and will incorporate this into my practice and with my students. This book will make a wonderful gift to any yoga student or teacher.
I’m a yogi and am currently finishing up my YTT and this book was so incredibly helpful! I have such a standardized way of doing things and I felt like my sequences were getting a bit mundane. I cannot wait to incorporate this into my practice. I never thought about doing yoga for the zodiac signs but it makes so much sense. It was very interesting to note that the sequence for my sign had some of the poses I already gravitate towards! The meditation aspect and breathing techniques were something I will take to my practices as well. This is a book I will keep coming back to for reference and looking for new ways to bring some variation into my sequences. I really enjoyed this read.
There’s plenty to be learned or explored in this book. I’m fairly new to my yoga journey and as yet hadn’t explored it in conjunction with star signs. The yoga poses are explained simply but effectively with stick man diagrams and there are prompts for visualisation and meditations. Great book. Thanks to Netgalley And publisher for the opportunity to review a digital copy.
The book is divided into two parts. Most of the chapters have exercises and meditations or visualizations associated with them.
Part 1: The Yoga by the Stars Approach Part 2: Yoga and the Zodiac Signs
She includes a guide of the healing potential for each zodiac sign. I was thrilled at the potential for my zodiac sign of Sagittarius and not surprised at all of my husband’s sign of Aries. She provides tips on how to get the most out of the book by following the elements of each chapter. I also like the zodiac wheel and the chakras included in chapter 2.
Each chapter has a powerful affirmation to be repeated while holding a yoga pose. The stick figure poses are precise and easy to follow. What intrigues me about this book is the fact that she combines astrology and yoga together. Although I never thought of the two in the same sentence, the way she presents the information it all works together perfectly. The chapters end with meditation questions.
I have unofficially been doing yoga on and off for more than ten years. I know the poses but lack the drive to practice. My goal for 2021 is to become more connected with the moon and practice more yoga and meditation. I am going to use this book as a guide and record my progress in a journal.
