The President's son is dying. Terrorists claim to have the only cure.

When a private plane whisks CDC epidemiologist Madeline Hamilton to Washington D.C. for an urgent medical symposium, she knows something significant is underway—but she doesn’t expect to face the most disturbing medical mystery of her career. A debilitating neurological toxin has stricken the children of several political families, and one of them is the son of U.S. President Anna Moreland.
With the lives of children on the line, Madeline assembles a team of medical experts. The investigation takes a horrifying turn when she starts receiving communications from the terrorists, who want to engage in a deadly political game.
Desperate to find the perpetrators and a cure, the White House recruits FBI antiterror specialist Quinn Traynor to run a parallel investigation. As the teenagers start dying and the answers seem no closer, Madeline and Quinn fight to prevail before President Moreland is forced to make an impossible choice: give in to the terrorists’ demands or let her only child succumb to an agonizing death.

I read book 2 first so had to read Book 1 as well, though could easily read either book as a stand alone

I love a sequel! Dr. Hamilton and Agent Traynor
are together again and it is wonderful to see their relationship develop. I thought the storyline was
disturbingly believable: kids lie and parents protect their children at any length. The main plot is
quite timely: terrorists among us and viruses without a vaccine. I thought there was just enough medicine but it didn’t bog
down in too much clinical detail. My only hang up is that it could have been longer. I would
have enjoyed more interaction between Quinn and Rivera. I recognize him from another of
Ruff’s books and having cross over was a great surprise. I flew through this book and hope she will write sequel number 3

Although it is the 2nd book in a series, it can still be read as a stand alone. Liked the book. It is a page turner. Fast. After reading the 2 books in the series ( Both were free from Amazon) I decided to put Jenifer Ruff on my favorite author list. You would probably do the same after reading them both.

Solid. Good plot, liked the characters. I’m reluctant to go to 4 stars, but my experience with Jenifer Ruff is that she’s a competent writer whose books I generally enjoy.

Terrorism, drug cartels, politics, and a dash of romance!

I somehow missed the first book in this series (Only Wrong Once) and while I am sure it would have provided more of a foundation for the main characters and their relationship to each other, I never felt I was missing anything integral to this story. It can absolutely be read as a standalone (having said that, I have already gone back and purchased the first one because the writing and the characters are so good).

This book has something for everyone. It is a well-written and compelling page-turner of a novel that features strong, intelligent female characters who are highly accomplished and very relatable. Also featured are some very convincing and rather loathsome villains, each with their own agendas, who are working together to perpetrate a heinous act of terrorism against the United States. The story is told from the perspective of a CDC epidemiologist, Madeline Hamilton and an FBI counterterrorism agent (and Madeline’s love interest), Quinn Traynor. Both have been called in to combat different aspects of this threat against their country. A neurotoxin has been deployed against a select group of young people (all of whom have wealthy and/or politically prominent parents) and a nerve-racking, tension-filled race is on to find out who is responsible for this toxin and how to combat its effects before the young lives are lost. The plot is intriguing and plausible, the characters are well-developed and believable, and the suspense is unremitting. There is no gratuitous or graphic violence, no unsavory language, and the romance between Madeline and Quinn is devoid of explicit scenes. I applaud the professional presentation of this book – it is well-edited with no typos or grammatical errors to detract from the flow of the narrative. I chose to listen to the audiobook version as I read along with the e-book version and I must comment on the superlative job done by the narrator, Stephanie Dillard. I felt she employed every technique possible (variances in pitch, cadence, tone, and accents) to bring this story and its characters to life for the listener. Without reservation, I recommend this book and audiobook to all.

While I did purchase a copy of this book, I was provided with a free review copy of the audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this honest and unbiased review.

Oh wow, I haven't discovered another author that can write like Jenifer Ruff can. This book gripped you from the very first word and boy did it take you on a ride until the very end. As you can tell I really enjoyed this book. It contained a strong cast of characters and a good plot that had you sat on the edge of your seat, wondering what the out come would be. With everything going on in the world at the moment this book covered the subject of a pandemic very well and it also contained some lighter moments that will make you smile without lossing the seriousness of the subject. This is book two and even though it is a stand alone book I would recommend book one "Only wrong once" because it introduces you to the two main characters and let's face it if you don't you are missing out on what is turning out to be an excellent series.that you won't want to miss.
Madeline plans to go house hunting are put on hold when she gets a phone call asking her to drop everything and be at the airport asap. With very little information she turns up to find the Presidents son and a number of his friends have gone down with an illness that the doctors can't identify and she has been made head of the task force that have the job of finding a cure. Her first job, after requesting her team is to find out how they became infected and why some are worse than others. The teens have just can back from a school trip to Mexico but was the infection closer to home? Then she gets a phone call asking her to choose from three words, this leads to two dead bodies and one still alive. It seems somebody has his hands on a cure and the infection was a planned attack. Madeline is joined by Quinn Traynor as the investigation shifts gears and with the caller playing games with the teenagers lives it is a race again time to find a cure. The United states don't negotiate with terrorist but what does that mean for a group of sick children and will the terrorists take it any further?
I liked the narrator and thought she did a good job of building up the tension and suspense, as well as some great voices for the characters.

This is a brilliant read.
Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start.
Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believeable.
Great suspense and action with wonderful world building that adds so much to the story.
Can't wait to read more of these.
Recommend reading.

This was a well-written and entertaining book. A mysterious illness has struck a group of soccer players after a trip to Brazil. Is the disease attacking their nervous systems a result of this trip? Or, there something more sinister at work. Considering that these young people attend an exclusive school and happen to be the sons and daughters of Senators, businessmen and the POTUS, it could even be terrorists!

The CDC and FBI are called upon to solve the mystery, find a cure and discover who is behind this heinous illness before one or more of these kids succumbs. If this is a terrorist attack, it could mean the end of the President's term in office or worse. Add in the possibility that a drug cartel might be involved and a person close to the President being addicted to oxycodone and you have a true thriller.

The story moved at a fast pace and was engaging from start to finish. The author does a good job with keeping the reader's interest with all of the twists and turns. There is also plenty of action and a little romance to add to the mix. The narrator does a good job with the pacing and the voices she uses for the various characters.

I was given the chance to listen to this audiobook by the author/narrator/publisher and chose to review it.

If you like nail biters, pick yourself up a copy of Only One Cure by Jenifer Ruff. I am hooked on medicine and should have gone into that profession, I love to read a good medical story.

I'm not into FBI and espionage but, all of that fit in well with this book and I really didn't mind it that much. This story kept me flipping the pages, sitting of the edge of my seat and for some reason not able to sleep last night. My furbaby wasn't too happy when I got back up to read! I finally had to put it down and give into his attempts to get me back to bed.

I love Jenifer's development of her characters. The main characters were likeable and I was rooting for them to find the cure. The secondary characters were not as developed but, that did not detract from the story. I was better able to concentrate on what was important and what was really happening. There was not a lot of miscellaneous details in the book. She was right to the point and let you enjoy the story without taking you away for non-essential details. By the way, I still was not able to guess the ending. She did a great job of keeping me stumped

I received a copy of this book from the author for a fair and honest review.

Your top priority is the safety of everyone in the United States of America. When a seemingly unknown sickness hits, how do you handle it? A president and her crack team of experts tackle this problem in Jenifer Ruff’s exciting thriller “Only One Cure”.

Anger has a way of penetrating ones soul. A criminal’s soul has deep dark ideas when they get angered. Is this what happened to an entire schools soccer team? One mad person’s idea of revenge? Or is there a new strain of neurological virus haunting the shores of America? Ruff’s main characters must divine out the answers before lives are lost. Their own lives face dangers they did not imagine as this harrowing tale unfolds.

Ruff has done a masterful job using details in her story telling. Each twist and turn is accompanied by insight born through well done research before the words were put to page! I was mesmerized by the events as they were placed before me with each turn of a page!

All lovers of exciting thriller novels will be amiss if they do not scoop up a copy of the book!

This author has gotten my attention with her novels that can take you hostage until you are finished with the last page. This one is no different with it being with alot more suspense and drama that often had my heart racing. This release also fits right in with the pandemic around us which caused even more anticipation through this one. We are first given Madeline than Quinn whom we ride with in this one that you could say at times is almost like reading a horror with the terror you can feel. I say that also as a parent and my point of view with how I would feel. So the reason I say you are held hostage you can not quit on this one until you have all the answers regardless where they land.

I read this book without reading its predecessor and didn't find any problem doing so.
Terrorists have infected the children of the rich and powerful, including the US President, with a virus. Madeline Hamilton and her partner, Quinn Traynor, are tasked with solving the case from the medical and criminal perspectives respectively.
What follows is a tense and believable thriller that kept me entertained throughout.

Dr. Madeline Hamilton is one of the best in her field and works for the CDC so she never knows when the call will come in to take her away to unknown places but this latest case is the most disturbing so far. The president of the United States' own son, along with several of his classmates, have all been affected by a neurological toxin and they're deteriorating fast. It's up to the doctors Madeline has assembled to save the lives of the children of some of the most influential people in the country. Its up to the FBI and Madeline's love Quinn, to find the terrorists responsible for releasing the toxin in the first place.
This was my first book by this author and it was quite the medical thriller. I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline and the varied cast of characters. If there was one flaw it would be that sometimes the flow of the story was a little jerky, which would have been helped by a little more description. Overall, though, it was a great story and an interesting medical mystery.

Overall good reading!

Overall, the 2 books are worth the read within the genre.
Though, if you are looking for “world ending,” apocalyptic stuff - this isn’t your story.
But for an international medical mystery, which involves the CDC, the alphabet agencies, and the White House, it’s entertaining.
I will warn, however. There is no deep dive into virology, bioterrorism, or medicine. Nor the inner workings of the aforementioned agencies or offices. And certainly not firearms. It’s all those things “lite.”
The well-developed characters are really what propel and keep the tale rolling at times.
I’m an extremely choosy reader, sticking closely to my favored dystopian, military/war/medical/pathogen, genes. The absolute best being heavy on details, with real science and military/CDC mixed in (see the fabulous Jack Hunt).
Thus, for what this 2 book series is, it’s entertaining enough to give it a go.

I read this book in one day! At 233 pages, it is a bit shorter than Ruff’s other novels. However, it is still packed with suspense and thrilling turns in each chapter. Compared to book 1, this is slightly less thrilling. There was a lot going on, at some points all the factors could’ve become confusing. All of the potential plots become muddled and confusing - the ponsi scheme by Trevor’s father, contaminated illegal drugs, contaminated brownies, contaminated vaccines, the president’s war on drugs and other political members affiliations. I think that was the point, so many potential contaminates made the source very difficult to narrow down. Just from a reader’s perspective, it was difficult to keep everything straight.

Otherwise, I liked the novel and thought the ending was good!

Captivating

Kindle "Top picks for you" suggested this book. Hadn't read anything by this author prior. I found the plot, which involves the Presidents son and several classmates, plausible. Amazing how a medical team can come together so quickly along with the necessary components to get the job done (if only). Exciting pace that weaves in different characters underlying involvement. Ending was rather sudden, leaving reader to fill in a few gaps. Overall good read. 4.5 stars.

Teenagers developed a neurological disease after a trip to Brazil

I enjoy this genre, especially when they are written by knowledgeable authors .
Book 2 starring Dr Madeline Hamilton and SAC Quinn Traynor . Madeline is rushed away from their meeting to do top secret medical care and research of the teens . Careless work by the secretary of DHS, a close friend of the president causes unknown problems . The FBI becomes involved almost immediately when the cause appears man made .

Gripping

An unknown disease and the targets are your children. The President and other high level parents are the target in this fast paced medical thriller. Quinn is back with Madeline as they race to find the terrorist and the cure. The subterfuge is fascinating and easy to follow as all the parts connect. There is some sad moments, crazy moments and some sweet romantic moments. Rivera and Sam from the Victoria series have a role and I loved seeing them again. Great read and series!

Ok, so the writing is great, the characters are fantastic, and the story was tightly woven. It definitely drew you to the end. The only draw backs were the science and FBI/CDC responses that strained credulity. If you are looking for something with realism, this isn't for you. If you can suspend disbelief, this is a fun story, and you won't be disappointed.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

While there is always hope, it takes time to find cures or vaccines or medications that can help the sick. This book timespan happens within a about a month and everything moves quickly. But it’s at just the right pace for even the reader to pick up and start to figure things out. Very well written and performed. I couldn’t stop listening.

FBI and CDC combine for a medical thriller. A neurological toxin affects the President's son and other classmates who traveled to South America. CDC epidemiologist Madeline Hamilton is called in to work on the toxin. But it seems terrorists are involved. FBI anti-terror specialist Quinn Traynor to run a parallel investigation. It just so happens Madeline and Quinn are involved. It was good listen as I drove home from Thanksgiving travels.

Just as with the first book...

Not suspenseful at all. It's difficult to have suspense when the bad guys are so prominent and telling you what they're doing and who they are all along.

The FBI MC is incredibly dumb. There's no way he'd ever be made a special agent in charge.

All of the characters are extremely shallow. I skimmed through a lot of the story and lost nothing as I had it all figured out very early on.

Awesome!

This is an excellent, nail-biter of a thriller. Ruff did a masterful job with details, plot development, and character depth. Just enough to keep me on the edge of my seat from the front flyleaf through the final page. Loved it - especially as COVID19 unfolds around the world!! 🥴

What if we faced a pandemic

Thought provoking story , the possibilities of it really happening are worrying especially at a time like this with the cornoa virus.
Chemical warfare or terrorism based attacks are an only too well known threat ,the outcome of which could be disastrous and harder to protect against than any explosive or nuclear weapon!

Read and enjoy!

A thoroughly good read. At the moment we are in the middle of the Covid 19 pandemic. Could it have been started deliberately, like the virus in the story? We will probably never know. It would be nice to think there was a solution similar to the one in the story, but real life doesn't have nice neat endings!
