It all comes down to this. Can she survive her final challenge?
Ember Clarke has been through the wringer. Her body has been beaten, bruised, shot and stabbed for five straight weeks. But the final week of her punishment will bring new challenges she never could have expected...
As her world crumbles around her, Ember must scramble to protect the people she cares about the most. But with more than one deadly foe stalking her, it may not be enough.
Can Ember see it through to the finish line, or will they finally get their wish and slit her throat?
Final Target is the last book in the epic Six Assassins crime thriller series. If you like heroes seeking redemption, jaw-dropping twists, and pages so exciting they practically turn themselves, you’ll love Jim Heskett and Nick Thacker’s complete six-part tale. Book 6 of 6.
Jim Heskett is a writer of short and long fiction, currently slaving away at a laptop in an undisclosed location in Broomfield, Colorado. Details about previous and future publications can be found at www.jimheskett.com
The series, “Six Assassins”, was an enjoyable read. All six books were well written and fast paced. Each book had familiar characters and yet the stories were very different. There was suspense throughout all books from start to finish. This series was a very good read!
Ember Clarke faces her final challenge in this action packed conclusion to the Six Assassins series. Everything has been building to this and the authors really deliver with the action and thrills. I’ve really enjoyed this series and this is a fitting end to it with us finally learning the truths we’ve been wondering about. This particular book is yet another well written fast paced read and I’m happy to recommend to all fans of action stories, just remember to read the series right from the start and in order.
Ember has one more assassin to beat in order to finish her trial....or does she? Zach also has a pretty big problem to tackle. This book continues the development of a strong female character. We learn even more about a number of characters. Can't wait to read more about Layne, Ember, and Zach. Great action sequences. I received a free ARC and am voluntarily leaving my honest review .
Week #6 and the final week of Embers trial by combat. All that she’s been through for the past five weeks has left her exhausted and hurting. Can she make it ? As everything comes to a head, she realizes she is being hunted by three groups and even with the help of friends she might not live through it. If you haven’t read this series you are truly missing out ! As always the cast is amazing, enough action to make you breathless and a truly superb ending will have you cheering !
I had to face a blank page for quite some time before I could start this review. I don't want to ruin the book for anybody, but the truth is if you're to this book, then you've already read the rest of the series--or you should have. This really does have to be read in order. I can't emphasize that enough. This book will be a mess to you if you haven't. Don't expect to start on Book 6 and hope to get the whole story. It ain't gonna happen. Too much happens in the previous installments and the story cumulates to one great, big ending.
I'd barely started reading page 14 and I had my first WTF moment. From there, I just got more and more of them. From the first book, I was involved with the characters and got more than a few surprises when certain characters showed up from other novels and other series. I was shocked when I found out who the mystery character in this book was. It was the last person I would've expected, but it made perfect sense. There was a score to settle, after all.
Out of all the trials that Ember Clarke had gone through, this one was the worst. She'd already lost so much in the past six weeks and some of it was personal. I think this one was worse than Gabe and losing him was hard on her. I didn't know how much more she could take and after reading over twenty books by this author, I know it isn't unusual for him to kill main characters. I didn't know who was going to make it and who wasn't until the end of the book. It added to the suspense and kept me turning the pages. I won't say who survived and who didn't. What I will say is this whole thing was sh*t storm with surprises and twists on every level.
I do want to address Naomi, though. I got a bad vibe from her at first. There was something off about her from the very beginning, but I had no idea it was THAT! I was stunned with her part in all of this. She was a rather sleepy character from the first book, but she packed a punch and was loyal to just one person who wasn't worth her time or energy. I was sad for her in that respect, but I guess that's what happens when you put your faith in a misguided, greedy, selfish, arrogant crustacean.
This book is a mover and a shaker with plenty of shock and awe, action, and a tightly wound plot that sprung at the last minute. It kept me at the edge of my seat and even though this is the last book of the series, I do hope to see more of the surviving characters in future novels.
*I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily left a review.
Woe is me! The end has come and Ember Clarke is finally free to have a (roughly) normal HEA, which is nice for her and her inamorata Zack, but terrible for the rest of us, who have been cheering our girl on for the last six weeks of the nail-bitingly, screamingly tense and outstandingly brilliant 6 Assassins series, from the amazing Jim Heskett (and mostly his partner in creating Ember & co in these awesome novels, the great Nick Thacker), of which Final Target is sadly, as the title says, the last for now of Ember Clarke's adventures in espionage.
The villains are satisfyingly dispatched, the heroes (for the most part - R.I.P. Gabe and Isabel), are battered and triumphant, now that what's left of the DAC, is rid of the treachery at its core and Justice has been taught a salutary lesson at the FBI's seat of power.
Ember, Zack, Layne and Serena will live to love and/or fight another day, but never forgetting their friends and the innocent - or maybe not so guiltless - lives lost, such as Ember's younger brother, Fagan, Naomi etc al.
A special and successful conclusion for Jim Heskett's Final Target, wraps up the series that you'll be so glad you chose, to get you through the tough times of the Covid-19 pandemic and your Lockdown Blues.
Deserving far more than merely 5 stars, you should definitely treat yourself to the whole 6 Assassins series... which would make a great Father's Day gift by the way...and make sure to do your friends a favour, by spreading the word!
Hopefully more books about Ember are to follow eventually - after all, you can't keep a good (ex?) assassin/FBI girl down! It's up to you Messrs. Heskett and Thacker - your fans await your decision!
The element of surprise is important to an assassin and certainly appropriate for this final book of the series. A lot of people die as the DAC collapses.
The climax is a choreographed blood bath and following several inter branch assaults. It is fitting that, even with the twists and turns, you don't know the full history of the Denver Assassin's Club until the very end.
The careful placement of spies, an all-hands outing of Ember's FBI employment to the DAC members; virtually every person who has been a part of the story gets closure. The wrap up is good for images of blood spilled on snow, pandemonium and betrayal. There were a couple of chase scenes which should be great for the Hollywood adaptation.
In paraphrasing one old TV series line, "it's great when the plot comes together". Here it is "That's all folks".
No spoilers here - just a terrific collection of tied up loose ends, tears of joy and sorrow. And there is a promise of another series with one of the main characters.
I received a review copy from the author at my request and this is my honest opinion. What a rollercoaster of a ride!! The action and the hits just kept coming in this one. Ember has been through the wringer and back but continues to be her indomitable self. There is more action than the reader knows what to do with and I found myself needing a break every once in a while to catch my breath. Only it had to be a short break because I had to see what happened next. This has been an amazing series and one I have thoroughly enjoyed. I almost hated to see it end because I have bonded with Ember and the people in her life. Plus, getting to see Layne and Serena (from Mr. Heckett's Layne Parrish series) is always a plus. I can't wait to see what these authors have up their sleeves next. I'm sure that it will be amazing, as always. Be sure and check out this series. It is well worth your time.
This is the final story in Ember's trial. This week opponent comes from her own assassin group. It makes it difficult for her since she has a lot of friends there.
At the same time that her final test is occurring, Zach's employer is looking for both Ember and Zach since Zach did not want to commit to working with them any longer.
Because of all of the DAC leader's action an uprising by all of the Assassin groups is also taking place. A party outside of the organization who had been pulling the strings watches his enterprise go down.
If you want to find out whether Ember succeeded in the final trial and who the outsider was that led to all of this, then you need to read the book.
The action at the end of the story at a particular location is well worth it. You won't be disappointed.
The last book in this six part tale is the most exciting! Both authors are terrific alone but the combination of their talent shines.
In the final week of her black spot challenge, trial by combat, Ember faces more foes than ever. Her own branch is sending an assassin against her. The threat of Marcus hasn’t gone away even though the woman he hired to kill her is now an ally and with the death of Isabel she is even more determined to prove his guilt.
Zach’s trouble with his previous employer is also escalating. Keeping him safe and eliminating the threat to him is a priority for Ember. She never intended to fall in love, especially at this time but it happened none the less.
With the assassins, the FBI, and a corporation out for her life how can Ember stay alive and also prove her innocence?
Ember Clarke made it - she had to kill someone she knew - but she made all six weeks without getting killed by fellow DAC members. She also again faces her ex-boss from the FBI, Marcus Lonsdale. And it was most definitely NOT a good reunion. This whole series has been a ride with dips, hairpin turns, air-grabbing hilltops and writing that kept me never wanting to put it down. I would even finish for the night only to pick it up again during my last bathroom visit before finally going to bed. There are great characters that you cheer for, despise, wish bad things upon and even think you could be friends with (if they were real). So don't think too long and hard before you buy this series or you'll kick yourself when you DO buy them and give 'em a read!
It all comes down to this. Ember has survived despite being a target for the last five weeks. Will she be able to fend off her last club assassin contract.....her own club?
This series has kept me reading and wondering how it would all wind up. I really didn't want it to end but at the same time I couldn't wait to see how it would end.
Nick and Jim have done an awesome job with this series. If Ember survives I hope they will keep her escapades going with a new series cause after all she was FBI. But then again, maybe this will be her end in which case, the writers will have to figure out a new heroine to take her place. I can't wait to see what they do!
I received this book as a free advanced reader copy but the review opinions are my own.
OMG, I've not been so desperate to read the final book in a series as I have this & it DID NOT disappoint. Ember is in her final week & it's her home chapter that is sending the assassin. Can't say much as it will give spoilers but this book is heart stopping, heart melting, high tension, high action, immersive, page turning, plenty of detail in the right places & great characters. Brilliantly written by two great authors who merge seamlessly in every book. Thoroughly enjoyed all 6 books but this one was the best, the culmination of events with twists right up to the end. Sad to see the series end & would defiantly read more with Ember as the lead character again.
She’s , cautious, cunning, caring, creative, canny, a calamity of crime, and she’s a camphor. A canard is revealed to all and she becomes cabochon among women. This series has to be picked-up by someone and made into a movie or a TV series. It is just too unique and twisting. To trust someone and then again no one. To fear for yourself and others to rage over past friends and their deaths. How this woman manages to compartmentalize all of her emotions and manage to get the impossible job focused is amazing.
I loved this entire series. A strong, smart and beautiful heroine with an interesting and varied supporting cast and a couple of villains you just love to hate, it's been a treat for action literature fans from the first book until this explosive ending. The final episode in the Ember Clarke saga is chock full of non-stop action that makes it almost impossible to put down. All of the ongoing plot lines come together with everybody looking to get their piece of the young assassin. This is a series I'm really sorry to say goodbye to.
Jim Heskett and Nick Thacker are absolutely a Super Duo! They have produced a totally Wonderful six book series. Following Ember Clarke an assassin herself who faced a six week fight for life. A different assassin from one of the other groups, but as you will read many other issues, including falling in love, fighting her past life, finding help and support from unusual people. This set of books is a Must read. Be prepared for some very late nights, because once you open the cover you will not be able to put it down!!!
In my opinion this is a GREAT!, conclusion to the Six Assassins Series. I predicted chaos and mayhem for this one in my review of Vendetta Target. Well you get blood, chaos, action and suspense. I predicted that there would be few survivors if any of DAC. I will not give it away you must read to find out. There were some twist I did not see coming, so WELL DONE Jim Heskett and Nick Thacker, this does not happen often. Sometimes I felt things were a little strung out, but I got over it. I loved Ember's never give up attitude. I personally loved this book and found it a fitting conclusion. I read on Kindle Unlimited.
The conclusion of Ember's tale is satisfying with Firedrake, DAC and Marcus all resolved in a definitive manner. Ember endures peril from all 3 arms and manages to wrap everything up while a massive gun (and other assorted weapons) battle occurs at an FBI hideaway in the mountains. Prior to this are stakeouts at the airport, the death of the sixth assassin (no surprise who), a rocker launcher attack on the DAC headquarters, murderous secretaries and oodles of comeuppance. A well written finale to an engaging saga.
This was a great series. Each book covered one week of her trial by combat which made you look for the next book to see how our girl was going to hold up. Even if there was some closure for each book the final story ties up the loose ends and question marks. Everything falls into place. I can’t say too much without giving away the story but you will have a lot of action and twists that will make it hard to put it down.
The book you've been waiting for since the series began back in February. Final Target (Six Assassins #6), my thirty-fifth read from author Jim Heskett and the conclusion of the series. Another excellent read that you can't wait to turn the next page and read more. The suspense has been building for five books and now the (very worthy) conclusion. I was given a Kindle copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing it. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
Our story line continues and you really have to wonder how this gal can go through fire fights and not get shot. Well, she did a little but with all of humanity after her, she escapes death. Oops, spoiled the ending. Really though, sometimes she seems like a teenager and not an FBI agent nor an assassin except when she is hunting. Good book, still a little confused if she was still with the FBI.
Final Target, final book of the series. You have to read the previous books in the series to understand what is happening. This book is full of twists and turns throughout to the fantastic ending. So much mystery and intrigue. This series is highly recommended if you love suspense! I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving this review
Wow! Satisfying conclusion to the series and a HEA too. Karma got involved with our baddies getting a much deserved visit. Deadly revenge plot hatched by dastardly Marcus Lonsdale racked up a high body count. Loved all the drama as things evolved over the series with plot twists galore. Well done, you kept me on the edge of my seat and totally invested in Ember’s journey.
Great read, and a fantastic finish to the six book series. Definitely recommend reading in order. If you love the perfect hero (villain?), read a different series. Ember makes mistakes, gets hurt, and pushes through to achieve her goals. Fast, easy and enjoyable read. Looking forward to the future adventures of Ember and Zach.
This is the final book in the Ember series. Great finish, leaves me wondering whether she will resurface or not. Ember escapes from the remaining members of the Denver Assassins Club (DAC) and her nemesis from the FBI with help from former FBI agents. Walks off into the sunset with her new love, Zach. MUST READ IN ORDER!
Well worth the wait. I was on edge the whole time I was reading. The hits just kept coming. The conclusion was everything that I hoped it would be. All questions were answered. Good job
Wow! Each book is a thriller and you must read them in order. Loved the characters and couldn’t put down any of them. One a day as soon as they were available. I hope the 2 authors do another.
This was a fitting end to a great series. From the first page of book#1 to the end of book #6 the action was non-stop. I have been reading Nick Thacker and Jim Heskett for some time. I am never disappointed. Thanks again for some great entertainment.
This series of six keeps you reading and won't let go! Waiting for the last book was tough but now you can enjoy them all. Read in order to get the best out of the series
'Final Target' really got explosive. Crap really hits the fan now. Once I started reading I knew I couldn't stop. Ember is smart (otherwise she would not have lasted) so I knew she would give as good as she got. Full of twists, great characters and a ton of action. A definite must read series.
