A dying kingdom. A fugitive queen. And the five knights who will fight to the death to defend them.
Lorelai D'Anjou's life has never been easy. The sole survivor of a dark magic that destroyed her entire family, she has spent the last eight years caring for the ailing, impotent monarch who saved her life and claimed her for his own.
When the king is murdered by his selfish brother, Lorelai's world is suddenly narrowed down to two choices: marry her husband's killer, or die. Now, she flees for her life, a fugitive in her own kingdom as she seeks allies to help her take back her stolen throne.
Thankfully, Lorelai is not without friends. The fierce, dashing knights of the Order of the Regent have always been loyal, and during her darkest hour, they come to her aid. Unfortunately, five knights are not enough to rally a kingdom, especially when assassins are nipping at Lorelai's heels, and doubt is brewing in the hearts of Valliere's great houses.
But Lorelai has never been one to give up, and she's not about to start now. Especially when the alternative is not just death, but the end of the entire world as she knows it...

Wow, another great. Queen Lorelei is, ruling with her husband. When he is Murder, she’s in grave danger. She’s such a strong woman, fighting for her rights and her people. Intriguing
This is a stirring and romantic fantasy adventure that will captivate readers who crave epic battles, swoon-worthy heroes, and strong, determined heroines, making it a perfect fit for fans of reverse harem fantasy and romance.
So this book was one I really enjoyed! I really liked the pace of it, it did not feel rushed plot wise, smooth. But I did wish the relationships will all knights were explored equally. However, it is understandable why this book focused on one or two more than the other 3 (I will not be mentioning who because ahem SPOILERS ahem).
Lorelai and her knights have such a heartwarming relationship, they are truly a family. As mentioned in the book, they are each a part of each other that together brings them together as one. Lorelai was so devoted to her kingdom and her people. She had strength within her just waiting to come out of hiding. Although she always showed how fierce she could be when needed. She wasn't the most relatable FMC but I liked her.
Bruno had my heart from the beginning, so sweet and caring. So dedicated to Lorelai. He truly has a heart of gold. Taron, the leader of the order. He is fierce and loving. Also dedicated and fiercely loyal. Marrok was the brains of the team in a way, always plotting, always looking out for everyone's best interest. Always finding a way in the impossible. Andre, the gentle giant in a way. He is a cinnamon roll that will steal your heart. And Reyn, he had me giggling the whole time. The way he deals with life through humor and sarcasm was so relatable. He also stole my heart.
There is a bit of political intrigue in the plot as well as magic and fantastical themes included. Also, if you love the soulmate trope, you'll like this book! I wouldn't really say this is a reverse harem type of book as of now, but who knows how this will progress in book 2.
3.5 Stars It is a pleasure to read something as smoothly written and perfectly edited as this book is. I am someone who comes to a screeching halt at every error so I can't underestimate how much it means to me that this book was so cleanly written. I liked the world created in this book - the Houses and the political intrigue, the mysterious mages and their place within the structure. Queen Lorelai is the heroine and she has five potential harem members (her knights). They have known each other for many years before the book starts and though unconsummated and unsaid they all already love each other - this is not something I am a fan of as I prefer to watch relationship/emotional development build through interactions on the page. There will be some of that just based on the plot and how things are with the relationship dynamics (trying to be vague to avoid spoilers), and I am intrigued by some aspects of this, but mostly I do not feel their connection to each other yet. Also, some of the heroes barely have any attention, so they are not individual, memorable characters for me at this point. Some of Lorelai's behaviors irritate me, and honestly I wasn't sure if I was going to continue with this series but about two-thirds of the way in something happened that has me interested in what comes next.
The world-building in this book is absolutely incredible. I can feel the weight of history that has brought these characters to this point. I liked Lorelai; she’s a fierce defender of her people. I didn’t always understand or agree with the decisions she made, but I can see where the choices made sense to her. I’m not entirely sure what to think about all her knights, yet. They didn’t receive equal page time so there are several I really haven’t gotten to know very well. The author presented us with quite the eleventh hour plot twist, and I’m more curious than ever to discover what it will mean for Lorelai’s future and that of the knights of the Order of the Regent.
This is a great start to a new series. Lorelai made the best of a bad situation. She had to marry a man much older than her but he was a good man and the king. After watching her family all die when the Great Obscurite overtakes their village, the king was there to offer her a place by his side. But the monarch is sick and unable to produce an heir. His treacherous brother is waiting in the wings to force Lorelai to marry him or execute her for treason upon his brother's death. Thankfully, Lorelai has the Order of the Regent to protect her and loyal followers. However, there are more mysteries in store for Lorelai and her knights. The path forward isn't clear at all and I suspect there will be many more obstacles in their path. I am looking forward to reading the next installment.
This was a little different than what im used too (paranormal) so i was out of my comfort zone but overall it was good. The dialogue felt very old style and went well with the story . The heroine and heroes have alot of challenges and will need to work on the “sharing” is caring =RH. so who knows! interesting overall!!!
This is the first book of a new exciting series. Tested loyalties, assassination, betrayal, sacrifice, fear of imprisonment and impending death, action, intrigue, drama, fast-paced plot, shifting alliances, scorned royals, knights, and romance all wrapped up in a fascinating story with complex world-building and engaging characters. I am not big on historical reads in general or historical fantasy but I requested and read this book on the recommendation of a friend and I did overall enjoy the story. From the world set up and all the goings-on in this first book, it looks like this will be a fun series.
*I received an arc of this book and I am voluntarily providing my honest review.
This was a very interesting book. Loved the plot of this book. Lorelei and her men are amazing as their relationships grow and change in this book. Great steam and plot twists.
OMG that was amazing! Lately, I've been in a bit of a reading rut where everything is just OK and I cant seem to find a book that is truly excellent. Well, I found it! This book had everything I was looking for: and epic plot, a kickass heroine, super sexy guys, and an awesome animal sidekick. Now I NEED more!
This is a fantastic start to a new series! The story is complex and compelling with excitement, drama, betrayal, and loyalty. I won't describe the action, since the Amazon blurb does a pretty good job. I will just say that I loved the world-building and the characters and the intrigue. This book is just the start, so there are many unanswered questions and loose threads, but I am captured, and I can't wait for the next book in the series.
I was lucky enough to get an ARC and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.
It was a pretty good book, had a lot of story, left nothing unsaid. The characters are strong and nicely thought out. I think it possibly could have been a tad more developed and a bit more involved but over all I enjoyed it and I will read the next book.
I absolutely loved this book. I adored the intrigue, plots and backstabbing of the court. The plot is beautifully constructed, fast paced and very fluid. The characters are endearing or despicable.... and I was gripped the entire way through this book.
I have read the previous edition of this book, and I enjoyed the book no less now. Queen Lorelai was safe on the throne, until the day her husband died without having the chance to name her the heir and regent, the ruler of Valliere. Now, with his brother Guntram on the throne, Lorelai is forced to escape the palace and with her five knights, the Order of the Regent, determined to stand up against Guntram and fight for the people of her country. However, that is no easy journey, and more surprises are waiting for her than she ever could imagine. Set up in a fantastic world mixing magic with historical world, gallant knights in shining armor and powerful mages are just a few of the building blocks of this realm. Strategic decisions, machinations of the royal court, and hunger for power are driving forces among the ruling class, with shifting loyalties and unstable support of the nobility. Yet honor, valor, and fierce loyalty among some families are strong and devoted to the queen. Lorelai has gone on a quest not for power, but to protect her country, help the people, and find peace with her own heart - though the latter might prove a really big challenge. With five men competing to win the heart of the widow queen, and her swirling emotions for every one of them, this might be a decision that tips the scales of the fate. Will the queen listen to her heart?
Order of the Regent is the first book in the Knights of the Harem series a new fantasy romance novel. Queen Lorelai is depicted on the cover of this book appearing to be a strong female character decked in armor and wielding magic in one hand and a blade in the other. This sets the stage for the reader to believe that we’re going to be treated to a strong FMC, who will fight to protect what is hers and her people. Is that what readers get? Eh...not so much. Order of the Regent starts things off with Queen Lorelai dealing with a rather unpleasant situation. Her husband? Dying. Her brother-in-law? Scheming for power and making moves to acquire it. But in the immediate moment you start this book? A necklace that holds symbolic importance to many...gets broken. To many? It’s a bad omen that depicts a dark future ahead for the realm. Will this sense of foreboding come to be? Well...the simple answer is...yes, and rather quickly. The realm isn’t prepared for Lorelai’s brother-in-law to assume the throne. Even the king was against it, but...with the king’s quick passing...that is what happens. But he’s not the only threat. There is a darkness that shrouds the land and steals lives...twisting them into dangerous monsters. That threat is still a distance off, but Lorelai remembers all too well what it has already cost her. This story is an okay beginning to the series. Lorelai, unfortunately, is not the most engaging character. She shows a few moments of fire and fierceness, but she mostly comes off as meek and mild. It gets...a bit frustrating. The story shifts POV between the characters that will be the men she becomes involved with, but we get the feel this will be...each one gets to be the focus of each book. We’ll have to see if that comes to fruition though. This series has potential, but right now...it needs work. The “romance” is rushed, and really should have been allowed to develop. So, just know...this book reads like a slow-burn, and it is to a degree, but the romance isn’t allowed to develop on page for readers to follow. Expect a few twists and surprises though, but most of the more interesting elements happen late in the book. Hopefully book 2 will give us more to sink our teeth into. Soft 4 out of 5 stars
Queen Lorelai was safe on the throne until the day her husband, the king who was gravely ill, was murdered after it was found out that he was going to name her the heir and ruler of Valliere. Now his brother Guntram sits on the throne and Lorelai is forced to escape the palace with her five knights, the Order of the Regent. The knights are determined to stand up against Guntram and fight alongside the Queen, to win back her people and her country. However, it will be no easy journey, and more surprises are waiting for her than she ever could imagine. Queen Lorelai has gone on a quest, not for power, but to protect her country, help the people, and find peace with her own heart - though that part might prove a really big challenge. With five men competing to win the heart of the widowed queen, and her emotions growing for every one of them, this might be a decision that tips the scales of fate. Will Lorelai listen to her heart?
This book takes place in a fantasy world that mixes magic with historical elements. We have gallant knights in shining armor, murderous usurpers, civil unrest and powerful mages are the building blocks of this realm. There are always precarious ties with shifting loyalties and unstable support of the nobility. With fear being a strong motivator to be for the new King the Queen's position is very unstable. Yet the honor, valor, and fierce loyalty in some families do shine through and show their devotion to the queen.
This book was written so well and it flowed beautifully. The descriptions really had me seeing the book as it was happening. The Knights have great camaraderie with each other which makes it so much fun to read when they are together. The twists and turns of this book will leave you breathless and wanting more!
Order Of The Regent: Knights of The Harem Book 1 by Melle Amade is a fantasy romance based in an alternative world of Monarchs, Mages, and magic. When the King is killed by his brother it is up to Queen Loralai to protect the kingdom and fight for the right to rule as her husband wished. With the Knights Of the Order of Thr Regent by her side she escapes the Castle and builds a following. Will her attraction to her Knights be her downfall or her salvation?
I really enjoyed this story. It was simple and sweet. The world-building was interesting with plenty to learn as the story progressed. I believe this is my first romance based in world similar to Camelot, which was my favorite story growing up. There was suspense as the Queen was imprisoned and had to escape and run for her life. I liked the characters Queen Lorelai is strong, caring, loyal, and noble. She does her duty and truly cares for the welfare of her people unlike the usurper King. The Knighs are all very different and complete each other as a single unit with their Queen. I enjoyed how there was an air of innocence and respect with the group.
I rated this 4 out of 5 stars. I can't wait for the next book. I'm curious to see where this relationship goes and how things turn out with the magic aspect. Of you enjoy books with found family, sweet men, and slow-burn relationships then you will love Order Of The Regent by Melle Amade.
"Order of the Regent" is the start of the "Knights of the Valliere" series, and it's one of those books where the story kicks off right from the start. It results in a very action-packed first book, and for me it was a nice change compared to a lot of the other books I've read recently. I truly enjoyed how the worldbuilding in this book feels like the Middle Ages, with royalty and knights, and the addition of magic and mages on top. All of that together created a fast-paced storyline with a lot happening in a short amount of time.
I do have to admit the character building suffers a little bit because of the choice the author made in writing such an action packed first book. With only a few characters getting their own POV, the character building also focusses on them, and even for them it's clear this first book only brushes the surface of their characters and personalities. I do believe this can be easily corrected in the next book(s), but we'll have to wait and see what will happen then for these characters. For me, the story was enticing enough not to be mad or sad about it, and it just makes me look forward to find out what will be next. I'm looking forward to getting my hands on book two real soon!
In Order of the Regent, Queen Lorelai, has stood faithfully by her king for 8 years and now he was dying and Prince Guntram, was due to become the next King as Lorelai had not convinced a heir, due to her husbands illnesses. The king was going to make an announcement at the feast, what was he going to announce? What would happen to Queen Lorelai when the king dies, all that stands between her and Prince Guntram, is the Order of the Regent, the five greatest knights in all the land. Bruno, Taron, Reynald, Andre, and Marrok They have sworn to protect her. Along with her faithful companion, her Laircat,Elba, a giant breast the size of a horse, with saber-like teeth. The king has been murdered, who killed him? What will Prince Guntram due to her? There is so much in this story, of Lorelai and her knights, you must read this, I will not go on as I am on to book two, as I must find out the results of the events that took place in the first book. Happy reading don't let this authors stories be missed !
Order of the Regent by Melle Amade is book one in the Knights of Valliere Series. This is the first book I’m reading by this author and what an impression this book has left on me. This is a combo of some of my favorite things: it’s a why choose, it’s fantasy and it’s a romance. This was a great read that I had a hard time putting down. This was so well written and had amazing worldbuilding. The characters were amazing and I could feel each and every one of their personalities. Lorelei is by far my favorite so far; I really like how fierce that she is. Even though at times I was on the fence about the decisions that were being made, I was still incredibly intrigued by them all. I also can’t wait to learn more about the knights. This was a story that had action, drama, adventure and betrayal. Overall I really enjoyed reading this book and I’m looking forward to the next one.
Lorelai is the queen but when her husband, the king, is killed by his brother she ends up on the run with the 5 Knights of the Order of the Regent. While they are trying to secure her future on the throne the knights agree that they will all try to woo her, an old enemy of the country attacks and a life changing event happens! While Lorelai has realised that she loves all the knights there are complications afoot and they need to leave the country to ensure they can stay together. I admired Lorelai, she had a few tough choices thrown at her but she stuck to her principals and her determination to do her best for the country. I am looking forward to getting to know the knight a bit better too, so far we only have a surface impression of them but I think there's a lot more to come from them!
I really enjoyed this story of Lorelai who was married to the sick king and had been able to bear him an heir. When the king dies mysteriously and by his brother's hand, he gives her an option - marry him or be killed. She refuses but ends up being saved by the Order of the Regent who were the knights protecting the king and queen. The 4 of them all secretly have had feelings for the Queen but never able to show it. They try taking her as far away to get away from the false King but have several issues along the way. She ends up bonding with one of them and discovers they are true mates and that they are not just normal. And even more trouble is on the horizon.
I received a free copy of this book via the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The setting of this book is phenomenal! I love feeling fully immersed in the world, and that is what readers will get in Knights of Valliere! With tons of action and jaw dropping moments, this book had me hooked from page 1 as I tore through the pages. The MFC Lorelai is an incredible character to follow as the world she has come accustomed to around her is ripped away and she is left with no choice but to run. Luckily her knights are there to protect her and comfort her and more. I am really excited to see where everything will lead to in the next book, and I can't wait to be invited back into this world in book 2!
Melle gives us an excellent beginning to a new series! The story of Lorelei and the knights of the Order of the Regents begins with her husband (the king) being murdered by his brother so he can steal the throne. This begins the slow burn build of her relationships with the knights with unexpected results and a race to get allies to regain the throne. Ends in a wicked cliffhanger that has one waiting impatiently for the next book! Very well written with complex characters and plot twists that keep you guessing, this story is sure to become a favourite. I loved reading this story and highly recommend it. Don't miss out on this book!
This was so good! Lorelai D'Anjou's had a hard life after her family was destroyed but dark magic. Taken in by the king who is dying but not quick enough for his younger brother! Lorelai, fearful for her life flees before this evil brother forces her to marry him and carry his heir. Protected by the knights they must rally the kingdom to take back the throne and save the day. Twists and turns, action, danger and incredible world building, this had me hooked and on the edge of my seat. I cannot wait to see where the author takes us next!
Lorelei was a very loyal queen and it was sad to see her husband languish. When an announcement set for her to take over after he passes some shady things occur. She’s in danger and with her loyal knights she sets off to see who will follow her . Nothing is ever easy she keeps dodging the enemy. So many discoveries occur after she beds a knight. Once they all agreed that the queen is safer with numbers the knights with queen in hand set off for the next adventure and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
So this was my unexpected second read of this book.
I realised a few chapters in I'd read it before but didn't recognise the author's name as being one I'd read before and checked my kindle and it turns out it was originally published with a co-author that I'm a big fan of.
I finished reading it and it doesn't seem like anything was changed storywise since Melle republished it alone as it was just as interesting as before.
When Lorelai's husband is murdered by his own brother so that he can claim the thrown and take Lorelai as a second wife. She refuses and is put in prison. She escapes with the help of the Order Of The Regent. Five knights sworn to protect the true regent. Now on the run and not knowing who to trust. they must work together as never before, but each of the knights desire Lorelai for themselves. This is a great story the characters well written I look forward to the next in this series.
This one is a fun, fast read! I enjoyed the characters and the story. Some of the plot points kind felt like they came out of nowhere. I would have liked to see some foreshadowing early on so they felt like they meshed together a little smoother. I also would have liked a bit more sexual tension, or at least some of those scenes to be a bit more drawn out.
All in all? A fun read! Very curious to see where book 2 goes.
