This series consistently gets better. We had to wait a longer for this installment in the Dragon Assassin series, but it has proved more than worth it. I have been a fan of Slade’s work for many years, and this series is pure classic fantasy. It reminds me of the fantasy I first fell in love with late in grade school and in high school. When I first started reading after overcoming my dyslexia. It is the type of book that helped me fall in love with reading. And it is a series I am now sharing with my son. Reading this is great fiction and a trip down memory lane. The series start as episodic, is both a good thing and a bad thing. At first it was about a book a month. And the original goal was to publish a book a month for a year. But things changed and we had a wait for book 6, and a longer wait for book 7 and my understanding is book 8 will be released soon after this volume to wrap up the series.
This installment again is very different than the others to date. It is another excellent piece of writing. In this volume Carmen, Brax, Thord, and Megan have been flying for days. They are on a quest from Brax’s dead master Vecterix. They are flying to the lands in the east, and looking for a man with no mane. And boy ok boy are they in for a surprise. And what a sight they must make. Carmen, riding Brax the dragon, And Thord and Megan on their black swans.
There are more twists in this story than I expected, and I was waiting for a bog one. This is another wonderful story from the masterful pen of Arthur Slade. In a classic fantasy style. It was a book that I could not put down, and as the penultimate tale in the Dragon Assassin series it sets us up for an incredible finale.
If you have not read an of Slade’s writing, you owe it to yourself to give them a try. And this is an incredible series. Great stories, excellent characters. A plot full of action and twists. I highly recommend this book and this series they are great!

Our stalwart trio and Brax are ready to drop from the skies from hunger and exhaustion when they find themselves surrounded by a flock of dead ravens, forcing them to fly in a particular direction, and then to land.
They find themselves on an island occupied by the Witches and Wizards who managed to escape the clutches of the Assassins sent to capture them. They are tricked into attending a meeting of the Council, convened not to hear the reason they have come there, but to kill them because they are Assassin trained and the occupants of this island do not want anyone to know of their existence.
As great a shock as this is, it is surpassed on discovering that Carmen's brother also made it to this island and is apprentice to the Wizard Gorman. Although he seems changed for the better, he is still Corwin, the traitor that almost killed them all and whose memory or himself Carmen erased with a spell.
I received Dragon Assassin 7: Hidden Powers as an A.R.C. from the author and have chosen to leave a review.
Carmen (an Assassin) and Brax (her one eyed dragon) and their friends/allies have been charged to do what could be an impossible journey, where they will be stretched to breaking. Can they find the man they seek? And can they survive the dangerous challenges ahead? Brax is his usual sarcastic self, and he isn't afraid to give people around him lip (I still love him), and Carmen is even more fierce and determine to meet their challenges/dangers head on (I admire that). I look forward to the next episode.
Dragon Assassin 7: Hidden Powers by Arthur Slade is one of the best in this series of 8 books. Brax, the dragon and Carmen, the Assassin are searching for an unnamed sorcerer who it is said can bring back the dead. Brax and Carmen visit the distant land of sorcerers to find him. But assassins are responsible for the killing of many of the sorcerers which is why they left for this far off island. All assassins are immediately put to death when identified. How will Carmen and Drax manage to stay alive let alone learn who the mystery sorcerer is, let alone get his help!
I loved reading that book. What could be better than to dive into a world full of magic with witches, wizards and dragons.
The last 3 of the Assassins have a long way to go, which holds some surprises for them. What I still have to get rid of is: I love Brax the dragon, he has a delicious sense of humour and there is a lot of wisdom in him.
I can't wait to read the last part of this exciting, well thought out story.
I received a free copy of this book via Bookfunnel. I have voluntarily chosen to leave my review in support of this book.
I know that this is the next in the serial story line, but not quite as good as some of the previous ones. I do like how it included a plot from the previous stories (probably not really plot, but not sure what else to call it). I does have some nice setups for the next, and possibly last, episode. I almost wish they had been together, but am waiting for the next one. All in all, it was good and still looking forward to the next one.
The beginning of this book has a BIG surprise I never would have expected. Lots more very strange characters also. I still can't figure out where this story is finally going to end. Hope I don't have to wait too long to find out. I received an ARC. This is my voluntary opinion.
Okay, now that Carmen and Brax have dealt with the issues in the land of the dragons, it's time to go back and try to figure out how to help her own land. The evil emperor is unstoppable so they end up trying to get help from the witches....uh oh.
Guess who they find? And guess who now has wizard powers? Curious?
This has got to be my favorite book so far in this series. It was great to see Carmen reunited with her brother even though he doesn't remember anything at all. The contrast to who he is now vs who he was is very interesting. I'm very glad to see that Carmen still cares for her brother.
I wonder if he will ever get his memories back and how this could affect everything considering he now weilds magic, even if he just learned the basics. Here's to hoping if that happens he doesn't betray everyone or seek revenge!
This series keeps getting better. I look forward to seeing what happens next.
