Lately it seems to be raining constantly, making it difficult for Sadiq to play outside. When the librarian at his school starts a building club, Sadiq and his friends decide to join. They're tasked with building a city model to withstand a natural disaster. Inspired by the flooding happening in their own community, can Sadiq and friends come up with a solution?
More of a three star story but bonus points for being #OwnVoices and STEM. I like the real world applications of engineering. See my review of the first book in the series Sadiq and the Desert Star (which I liked a little more than this one) re: the good bonus material on Sadiq’s Somali culture.
A good book for younglings interested in engineering or lego-building. Sadiq and his team need to figure out how to keep their model city from being over taken with water during a flash flood. They succeed with a little help from Sadiq's hooyo's garden, showing real world application of engineering applications.
Sadiq and the Bridge Builders is all about team work! I love how the team was organized, how the team members were focused on their role, and how the partners worked together. Brainstorming ideas with friends, and being inspired by their day-to-day life and utilizing the inspirations in the project were just couple of my takeaways from this creative story.
Kudos to the author, illustrator, and publisher in bringing about a wonderfully crafter story for children.
Sadiq and his friends are excited to join the school librarian's new building club. Their first task is to work as a team to build a city that can withstand a natural disaster. Inspired by the rain impacting Sadiq's own home, his team sets out to build a city that can stand up to flooding. Will Sadiq and his team figure out how to stop the flow of water? A great start to a series for anyone interested in STEM activities.
In Sadio and the Bridge Builders, Sadio and his friends use the scientific model, Plan - Do - Study - Act, to build efficient cities that can help reduce flooding. A real-world problem, scaled down for a child to not only better understand it but also creatively work with others to come up with solutions. Excellent vocabulary. Well done, Siman Nuurali!
My 7 year old has been waiting for these books to be at our local library for a few months. He just read this book in 20 minutes and said it was great!
This is a great first chapter book to read with your reader who enjoys building with Legos and/or clay and has an interest in engineering.
My son had a hard time with some of the pronunciations but there is pronunciation guide in the front on how to pronounce Sadiq greetings his family uses and their names. There is also a glossary in the back where all the building terminology can be found.
We also enjoyed the facts about Somalia which is where Sadiq's parents are from. They live in Minnesota in this story. And the story takes places during the spring with lots of rain coming down as the snow is trying to melt. This is causing some flash flooding. Sadiq joins a builders club and they are challenged to build a city that can withstand a natural disaster. I really liked how Sadiq had a similar issue at home and tried to work through both problems with help of his family and friends.
