"On Eagles' Wings" is an astonishing, never-before revealed, true story of a secret rescue operation directed by British, Israeli, and United States inters during the Arab-Israeli Way. The author, Elgen Long, is the only surviving member of the acclaimed "Ironman Crew," that developed an emergency technique that was to effect the lives of tens of thousands of people. The Yemenite Jews are a remarkable example of tenacity in the religious history of man. The preservation of their language, customs and religion for thousands of years in a foreign controlled and sometimes hostile environment was exemplary. Their faith in their religious teachings led them to overcome every obstacle in the way of their prophesied return to Israel. It was the pleasure of Alaska Airline's Captain Larry Currie and his "Ironman Crew" to have played their small part in helping to make the dreams and religious prophecies of tens of thousands of Yemenite Jews become a reality.
I started this book in March of 2021 and finally finished it in February of 2023. I’ve managed to read many dozens of other books since then. While I appreciate the history and the story itself, the writing style was hard for me to get into. Lots of repetition, very linear, nothing to hook or reel me in, let alone remain engaged.
The book is a very detailed account of the actual fights, background history and personal observations. I believe if you have a history or aviation knowledge and interest, you will appreciate this book.
