Joey Anderson never expected to fall in love again.
After his wife passed away, he moved halfway across the world, determined to lose himself in pastoral work overseas while settling into a new life on his own.
And then, he met Morgan.
What turned out to be an unexpected surprise for them both was just the beginning.
Unexpected is a love story about faith, redemption, and what it means to truly be a family. Readers who enjoyed Meant to Be will be especially excited to read this story.

**This review contains spoilers for two other previous books, New Girl and Meant to Be. (Though it’s nothing more than spoiled by the book description, lol!)**
I loved reading about Joey and Beth in New Girl. Jenn Faulk has a way of making a reader fall in love with her characters, so of course when we lost Beth in Meant to Be, my heart broke into a million pieces.
But wow, the title of this book couldn’t be more appropriate. Joey finding new love? Unexpected. Lucy losing her mind and acting like a spoiled brat? Unexpected. But Faulk weaves us a story that shares real, deep, honest emotions that aren’t always beneficial in the characters’ lives and uses those very flawed feelings to point out healing spiritual truths.
Love isn’t blind, sometimes it’s tough and sometimes we do dumb things. But if God loves us anyway, maybe there’s hope we can do the same in our human relationships.
Joey has been a widower for seven years when he unexpectedly meets Morgan, a fellow missionary in Namibia at a function held by Piet and Kait. They immediately hit it off and talk for two hours, forgetting everyone else around them...so romantic! I was a little perturbed with Kait getting in Joey's face constantly that he shouldn't be with Morgan. Since when did she become his mother? Thankfully, Piet helped her to realize how happy Joey was.
Joey is one of my favorite characters in this series. Morgan was a perfect fit for him. Unfortunately, he never told Lucy about his new relationship...Lucy who is still very much so grieving the loss of her mother. She, Jude and their daughter are moving to Namibia permanently. Joey isn't expecting them to arrive for several months. He figures he will tell them at that time. Big mistake, Joey! Especially since their arrival date changed, amongst other huge changes without giving anymore spoilers!
Wow. Lucy...she was not the sweet, quiet, gentle Christian woman we all knew from previous stories. Wow. The claws came out and it was no holds barred between her and Morgan.
Thankfully the Lord had other plans for these fractured families.
Wow! Great story! Good insights into dealing with grief, past hurts, seeing things from different perspectives, and recognizing God's unexpected gifts. I was glad I could read it almost straight through (no big responsibilities hanging over my head)!
