I wish I would have had this book 8 years ago when I first started to study Vedic astrology! The level of explanation is well done for both beginner and intermediate learner. Pamela McDonough has meticulously taken the time to share the essences and framework of Vedic astrology, to help the reader to better understand the dynamic forces being conversed through the planets that are found in our individual birth charts. This book is well organized into 7 chapters and includes a glossary of Sanskrit terms which I find very helpful. I highly recommend this book and believe it would be very beneficial for anyone wanting to understand and learn more about the science of Vedic astrology.

Western astrology and Chinese astrology aren't the only two options when it comes to looking at the stars for tips on your life and day-to-day activities. Vedic astrology has its roots in India.

I am very intrigued by Vedic astrology since much of my own spiritual practice lies in Indian culture, BUT, I found this book hard to understand as someone with no prior experience on the subject. I feel like, because there is a lot more that goes into this type of astrology (just as there is a lot in all astrology - learning things like the houses in western belief), I'll have to read through this book a few times to fully get all that there is within.

I'd suggest having some prior knowledge on the Vedic astrology if you want to get this book. I feel like the "beginners" tag on the title is misleading... BUT, the book is rich in info. So, good for those with prior knowledge wanting to delve deeper into their study.

I got this book for free from the publisher, and this is an unbiased review.

Basic Vedic Astrology (Jyotish) for beginners. Think: 'For Dummies' with more respect and devotion. Well organized and easy to read. A high level book to give a someone an overview so they can at least get started. I have been through the planets, signs, and houses sections but will say, we're looking at a lot of passion and commitment - reading and practice - to understand Vedic Astrology. There is a huge amount of detail and information out there - I'm talking about Nakshatras (the lunar mansions), aspects, and more - that could very easily set you back a lifetime. And you will ask yourself: is this something I want to devote this much time and energy too? Now? After all, if you're already getting ready to move to the next lifetime, is it all that important to know the best prophetic time to go to war or get married? Verges on superstition to me. However I love so much of spiritual India, Aurveda, and the Shastras - I feel I need to have a basic understanding of Jyotish, at least. I'm just wary that I'll be sucked into this rabbit hole. It's definitely a way to loose a lot of time - as it IS incredibly interesting.

I suggest downloading the COSMIC insight app on your phone so you can see your own chart(s), houses, as a reference, while you're reading.

I love astrology. So when I saw this book on Netgalley I had to request it. I enjoyed learning about Vedic astrology, which is the astrology of the East and slightly different from our western astrology. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in astrology and wants to learn about their vehicle natal chart.

I would like to thank Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy free of charge. This is my honest and unbiased opinion of it.

Very well organized book, and easy to grasp. But I found the birth analysis chapter to be very general and vague in a way.
