Disappointed

This story was a continuation of Tied. It had so much potential but fell short. I liked certain elements but this one felt rushed. The idea and premise needed to be fleshed out. I wanted answers as to why Riley was wanted as a pawn. And don't even get me started on the climax of the story. It made the epilogue feel slapped together.

I love this author but I'm disappointed that she took a book that had an h potential and crammed it in this novella.

Best If Read Right After Tied - Dark And Twisted, Marked Will Leave You On The Edge Of Your Seat!

This is the conclusion of Cain and Riley's story. Riley is the smart little sister that Alena from The Puppetmaster helped raise after they became orphans. The story began in Tied; it picks up seamlessly where Tied ended with a cliffhanger. It is best to read the books back to back. Marked clears up the mystery and answers outstanding questions.

In Tied, Riley Prey is starting over. After losing her job as a software developer six months ago, she moved across the country to be near her newly married sister - her hero and only remaining family. But finding a new job has proven to be a challenge, so when she comes across a listing that sounds almost too good to be true, she pounces on the opportunity. The pay is good and it sounds exciting, but the interview process is unique. She is to prove her skills through a series of tests. The first test has her hacking into the wi-fi at a cafe. Child's play. But she has no idea that she has fallen into a trap.

Cain has not forgiven Riley for disappearing on him six months ago. He had forgotten just how alluring she is, though. He needs to touch her. He loses focus and becomes lost in her. Any man would be vulnerable to her charm. Cute and nerdy, brilliant yet gullible, she is perfect for the job. He just hadn't anticipated the jealousy. This is a problem since he kidnapped her to help take down the Covey, a highly secretive crime syndicate in New England. The Covey is responsible for the death of Cain's parents and it has been his life's goal to take them down. Riley's beauty combined with her geekiness make her the ultimate Venus fly trap for the man hired by the Covey to safeguard all their secrets. Cain can't allow himself to get distracted when he is so close to achieving his goal.

In Marked, Riley has overheard Cain on a call that leaves her terrified. She discovers he has lied to her. She had strategically put herself on more level ground by agreeing to her part in taking down the Covey in exchange for her freedom afterward and the salary promised for the job she thought she was interviewing for. She even felt some sympathy for Cain's story. But she now overhears Cain himself promising to hand Riley over following the job, to do with as the caller pleases, and she realizes her only choice is to escape.

Cain can't make out what to think of his possessiveness and jealousy over Riley. He knows she is smart and manipulative, and as drawn to her as he is, he can't trust her, and can't trust himself with her. As the job approaches, he has to manage the demands of the Scavoli family, an unreliable mafia family who hate the Covey and have agreed to help, while preparing Riley for her role.

The suspense grabs you from the start and keeps you hooked until the end. Cain and Riley share an unusual chemistry. Even in the face of betrayal, it cannot be denied. His cold, domineering way calls to her desire to submit without question, even when faced with risk and betrayal. They play a high stakes game, but who will come out on top becomes the big question. In the end, the couple earns their HEA.

Alena and Raad from The Puppetmaster appear in the story, as do Nate and Malia from the Onyx series. Although it is nice to have read those books previously, it is not necessary.

Nothing can be taken for granted as Cain and Riley's complicated relationship plays out amidst lies and betrayal in this dark story. This is a quick read. It is nicely written. The POV alternates between Riley and Cain, with a cameo chapter in Alena's POV. The story is plot-driven, very complex and intriguing. The characters are well-defined, mostly in Tied, though the focus is primarily on plot. I rate this book four stars.

I received a free advance copy of book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Marked is the sequel to Tied, in which readers were introduced to Riley Prey, the smart yet saucy younger sister of Alena Prey. Alena and now husband Raad were featured in The Puppetmaster.

Marked picks up where Tied left off – Riley being held prisoner by Cain until he can enact revenge against those who are responsible for his parents’ death. He has kidnapped Riley – a young master at developing web applications who he came across some time earlier and with whom he pursued a sexual dalliance – and intends to use her as a pawn in his plan, eventually handing her off to the Scivola family as a wife for one of their sons as payment for their help.

Riley knows something is up after overhearing Cain on a phone call. Her suspicions are dark, yet she has unresolved and passionate feelings for Cain. Since she cannot trust him, she must decide how to best play her hand if she ever hopes to be a free woman again. Cain, on the other hand, realizes that his brilliant plan to seek revenge has a big problem – Riley – or more accurately, his feelings for Riley are a big problem. The two spar off in a silent battle of wit and wills as the clock ticks down to the scheduled “rendezvous” when Cain’s plan with the Scivola’s is set to take place.

At the final hour, Cain is forced to make a hard decision – he’s going to have to choose between exacting revenge – and Riley.

The first half of Marked is slower-played, the psychological elements explored between these two star-crossed lovers. Once it is time to put the plan into action, though, author Linnea May shifts it into gear, speeding up the pace and treating the reader to a maze of unexpected surprises.

Though some reviewers may have found the ending to be rushed, I experienced it completely different. Linnea May is one of the few authors who somehow always pulls a story together seamlessly at the end, and 98.9 percent of the time weaving in brilliantly plotted – usually unexpected – surprises that leave the reader thinking, “Yes! How does she do that so well every time?” This one was a shocker, but oh, so good!

The epilogue was sweet, satisfying, and fun. Tied/Marked may be labeled as dark (possession) romance, but when it boils right down to it, love and chasing the HEA are the main course.

I read and reviewed an unedited copy of Marked: A Dark Possession Novel.

Dark steamy romance with an HEA ending I loved
This is the sequel to TIED in which we first meet Riley Prey and Cain Hewett. I recommend you read TIED before reading MARKED, otherwise you will feel lost. It was nice to see the happiness of characters from previous books in this one (CAPTURED/FRACTURED and THE PUPPET MASTER).
MARKED opens with Cain coming to check on his kidnap victim, Riley. In TIED we see them as having a tryst, but it is simply a part of Cain’s plan. Now she is being trained for a mission that Cain has orchestrated, but she has been given a threat to achieve his goal and she believes him until the phone call!
Oh. My. Word. This is edge-of-your-seat stuff. It truly could have gone either way and made another book of it. Thankfully that didn’t happen. We see the growing feelings between the two but could she forget all that has happened? Really loved this book but I will admit I had to go back and reread TIED to remember bits and pieces. I don’t usually read books with sequels for the very reason that the first book is “fuzzily” remembered when you read as much as I do. I recommend reading these books together. Still worth the read. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book and it comes highly recommended for lovers of dark romance. I give it 4.5 stars. (TIED is even darker than this one.)

She Wears His Mark But Can He Let Her Go 🔥❤🔥❤

The second part of A Dark Possession duet is finally here...and definitely worth the wait!!! Marked picks up after Cain's not so secret phone call...at least to Riley. Cain noticed the change in Riley after the phone call but his top priority is his revenge. Now the prep work begins for the rendezvous night to make his plans complete. There are things amiss with sudden change of plans but one thing is apparent...Cain can't just hand Riley over because she is his and she wears his mark. What happens when the feeling of something being wrong prices right??? Will Cain be able to save Riley?? Can Riley forget and forgive all that has happened to her by Cain's hands?? One thing is for sure ...she definitely has feelings for the man and monster that has kidnapped her. Lies, deceit, secrets and a possive nature fill the pages of this second book with so many different possible endings, but you'll love the one Linnea May chose!!! It's great to catch up with previous characters and see how their stories carry on. You definitely have to read Tied, the first part to truly understand Cain and Riley's relationship. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book and purchased a copy for my favorites collection. Can't wait to see what comes next!!

Love ALWAYS wins!
MARKED, is touted by author Linnea May as a Dark Possession Novel and yet, I found in its reading so much more. Picking up the story of Cain and Riley right where author May’s novella TIED left off, readers are allowed to see behind the scenes as Cain’s assignations bring him to some startling realizations. While there is dubious consent, a kidnapping, illegal plans, and an exchange of power apparent in MARKED’s pages, the romance which provides the foundation of Riley’s and Cain’s story becomes an exquisite torture for both of them. MARKED is dark, but author May’s descriptive prose made what is, on its face is distasteful, into a remarkably sensual story of love, with characters a reader can’t help but root for, and a plotline that is as complex as it is compelling. Readers get to see some old friends from Linnea May’s earlier books like The Puppet Master. So, if romantic suspense is your thing, then MARKED should be your next romance. I volunteered to read a copy of MARKED and this is my voluntary and honest 4-STAR review. Traditionally, I don’t give novellas more than 4 STARS because of their length, but MARKED is a good read with a great ending. Get your copy today. Happy pages! 😉

I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher to review.

I thought the hardest part was to get my hands on her-but I was wrong. Riley is too smart for her own good and she doesn't adapt well to the victim role. But what kind of game is she playing? Why can't I get her out of my head? She's mine now, but not forever. I have to get her ready to make sure she understands what's at stake. Then, I will have to let her go. And this is where it gets truly complicated.

Marked is the second book in the Dark Possession Duet from Linnea May. You have to read Tied first or you are going to be lost. This book picks up right where Tied lead off and Cain is still getting Riley ready for the mission that he has basically kidnapped her and forced her to do. However he thinks that she is up to something and he just can not figure out why in the world he can not get her out of his head. However things must go on as planned but there are some serious wrenches or betrayal being thrown into the mix. This is where you get the answers to all the questions you had in Tied and I think this is an absolutely amazing conclusion to this duet. I loved it so much and how it kept me on my toes and surprised me in many ways.

Marked is the conclusion following Tied in Linnea May’s A Dark Possession duet. It is not a standalone story; you really need to read Tied first to understand Marked but it is definitely a great book to finish Riley and Cain’s story.
There are so many twists and turns throughout and Linnea May does a fabulous job of going through the psychological cat and mouse game played out by Riley and Cain which leaves you eagerly predicting where the story will go until the very last pages. The ending was not what I expected so good job on keeping me in suspense.
Marked is a story that has a combustible and fiery connection between two people who are fighting their true feelings the entire time, which makes for a scorching and emotional romance.
My only minor disappointment is that the very ending felt short and rushed and didn’t quite complete Riley and Cain’s story.
Overall, this is a great finale in the A Dark Possession duet and if you love dark romance with oodles of suspense and intrigue, I highly recommend this book!

What a great ending to this duet! After reading Tied, I couldn’t wait to find out what happened to Riley and Cain. When Riley overhears something, she realizes what Cain’s true plan is. Can she go along with it? Even though their “relationship” didn’t start out in the traditional sense, she still has feelings for him, even though she really shouldn’t. Cain, while needing to exact his revenge, starts to have second thoughts about involving Riley, but will that jeopardize everything he has carefully planned? This story keeps you guessing as to what will happen next, so much so, that I read it in one sitting! And I love how the author intermingles characters we have previously met. Just brilliant! Cain is a complex man and Riley is just perfect for him. You can’t help but fall in love with these characters and I didn’t want their story to end. I truly enjoyed this duet and highly recommend that you read it as well! You will not be disappointed at all!

If you are looking for a good steamy series with a HEA, I do believe I have found it!!! Marked is the sequel to TIed. The two main leads are Riley and Cain. Since this is book two, it is highly encouraged to read Tied first. It helps you to understand everything that is going on. Plus the extra bonus is that we get to catch up with some characters from other of Linnea's books.

Cain is the sly devil. I do not want to give much away, just in case you have not read book one yet, but i will say that Cain has a plan. Seems to have had one all along. Things are not all what they seem. But Riley will not stay in the dark for long.

Yeah, Marked is an edge of your seat romance that I could not put down. I was fully satisfying and highly recommend this series. I tend to read the previous book before i read the next one. I tend to read alot and forget things that happen. I would suggest that for this series, but if you have a good memory, unlike me, you would not have to.

I loved Riley's & Cain's story.
the wait is finally over wow what's a conclusion
rolled out the red carpet, cordoning off the area and seizing control, throwing this baby into the eye of the storm, breaking it down, blowing it into a tailspin with a shocking culmination. A throng of vexing shenanigans and a bevy of turbulent events running rampant, propelling this bad boy to life beautifully. Intense drama, thrumming tension, electrifying suspense and fierce danger spirals, as intrigue skyrockets, melding this baby together seamlessly. Add distress and turmoil along with perplexing situations and a boatload of trouble, propelling this little fella to staggering heights. Meting out striking, well rounded scenario's, Electrifying, dark and delicious! I devoured every tantalizing word..."

The car & mouse game being played in the basement was the true story. This was mostly psychological, as Cain & Riley slowly determine their true roles. I loved the back and forth, both trying to figure out truths. Loved the obsessive behavior of Cain and how he decided to end the madness on his terms. I have to admit that it wasn't my favorite ending. I wish it was "drawn out" in real time more, instead of stopping abruptly and the info put in the epilogue after it happened. I wish the epilogue was shorter, and solely concentrated on the family dynamic. I did love the way the epilogue ended though. However, with that said, I do appreciate the fact that the author kept most of The story purely psychological. It's hard to do a really great suspenseful story without lots of action and May has succeeded in spades with this one.

This is the second part of the Dark Possession duet and you have to read Tied first. I was intrigued to learn Riley's story since The Puppetmaster, featuring her sister Alena. I found Tied to be darker than Marked, and mistakenly thought that darkness would continue. While the story was nicely resolved, it didn’t feel as satisfying as the way I normally feel after one of Ms May's books. There was a lot of tension within Cain & choices he had to make, and fear in Riley about what was going to happen to her, but scant time on them together as a couple, leaving me feeling less connected to them. They got their HEA, though!

I received a copy of this book. My honest opinion is voluntarily provided.

I was ecstatic to get my hands on the conclusion to the wicked cliffhanger in " Tied, " Linnea May has a way of weaving a dark web of possessive emotional warfare with a hurts so good vibe you cannot help but let it consume you!
So this conclusion was not one I saw coming! While the darker side was prevalent, and all those questions that had been dangling out there in book landia answered.
The heat, tension, and suspension are lingering in the background of this one as Cain and Riley try to make sense of the battle going on in their heads vs. the job they've got to do.
The author switches things up a bit with a fast-paced race to all things love!
While it was not how I anticipated, the twists and turns intrigued and made for another great read from Ms. May!

Marked is the second book in the A Dark Possession duet by Linnea May which continues the story of Cain and Riley. This book picks up at the cliffhanger of Tied which is the first book of this duet. Riley remains kidnapped by Cain as he prepares her for the role she will play in his revenge for his parents deaths. As their relationship becomes closer. When their plans go awry will Cain be able to release Riley and can she forgive him for what he has done? I highly recommend this phenomenal edge of your seat book with its complex and flawed characters and intense plot with its many unexpected twists, suspense, danger, and sizzling chemistry.

I received an arc in return for an honest and voluntary review.

So I usually just don't review if I can't day something good, but I can't recommend this series.

So I read the first book and despite the issues (misspelled words and situations not believable) it seemed to have promise. But this book, book 2, did not make it. Besides the editeding issues, like saying "after several days (in his office) which should have read "hours", just as an example, it was hurried, had several other misrepresented situations, like Riley's sister, who from book 1, didn't know anything about her (spoiler -interview), then she and her husband and friend saved her. But what I hated most was only 86% of the book was the story, 24% was advertising her other books. Not cool.

She fell for him hard, he got her fired, and now she is his prisoner. Until she heard a conversation through a closed door, Riley wasn't sure why Cain had kidnapped her, and is holding her against her will. Cain is determined to get revenge for the murders of his parents, but he is beginning to wonder if he will be able to follow through with the deal he made with a notorious crime family.

Sexy, unique, and well written characters. Riley is determined to get herself free, and Cain has reconsidered his plan. Sizzling hot read with an interesting twist, I loved it. Fantastic book!

I am voluntarily leaving an honest and non-incentivized review of this ARC.

This is Book 2 in the Tied & Marked Duet.

This is the continuing story of Cain & Riley. Cain has a plan to revenge his parents' death, which includes Riley, being a computer whiz, but there is a catch to it with the people he's working with. Something doesn't sit right with him, though. Plans change, but not by him, so he has to make adjustments because he realizes he can't let Riley go like he was supposed to. This is a great ending to this book. Lots of emotions along the way, great writing, holding your interest, action, fear, anticipation and finally, love. I'm looking forward to Linnea May's next book.

I really enjoyed this duet! It is well executed and the characters are flawed but relatable as possible considering the topic. This book picks up in the same minute the first leaves off and I will admit it seems a tad rushed but I was still very content with the HEA. I think the only thing that would’ve made it better for me was if it was one novel instead of two, but who doesn’t want instant satisfaction? I hated having to wait to see what happens! Riley and Cain make a fiery pair and there are many times I was unsure which direction their story was gonna take I mean, REALLY...it could have gone so many ways...but this author never disappoints.

As an avid reader I am very particular on who I will read books with sequels with. Ms. May is one that I always want to read. Her books make complete sense in why they can’t be told in one sitting. With that being said you need to read Tied first to get the story of Riley and Cain from the get go.
We are introduced briefly to Riley in The Puppet Master.
These books build a relationship with these characters that have so many layers. They are dark and twisted and flawed. Cain has a plan for Riley but an event occurs that changes it all.
These books are dark and decadent adventures. I am volunteering to leave a review for this book.

Riley and Cain have gotten themselves into more trouble than Cain can get them out of ,and when he realizes that Riley might mean more to him than a means to a end they might be in more trouble know . Riley has had one hell of a few weeks with not knowing where she will end up after the sceam that Cain has put her through in order to reveal the people that killed his parents. Cain and Riley start to realize that this might be more than just kidnapping and trade for revenge against his parents it could be love. I received this book as a arc for a honest review it might be a dark read ,but it has bright moments in the end can't wait to see what linnea May writes next.

This is the conclusion to Tied and picks up where the cliff hanger ended. There’s plenty of drama, suspense, undeniable passion and not to mention regret on Cains behalf, trust has to be earned on both sides, can this be achieved!!! Riley Eves dropping on part conversations was only going to lead to misunderstandings or not !! Will Cains explanation be suffice and what about kidnapping Riley was that really his better judgment??? As always the story flows seamlessly and certainly not one to be missed. I was given this as an ARC by the author in exchange for a voluntary honest review which I am happy to leave.

You'll definitely want to read Tied first to get the whole experience. Cain and Riley have a very complicated and dark relationship. He's trying to avenge his parents' deaths. Riley gets caught in the crosswire - he needs her to achieve his goal. What he didn't count on was how his emotions would come into effect. Riley has so many emotions when it comes to Cain, but she is also very smart and will not take being a victim without a fight. Plenty of ups and downs in this duet. I wasn't sure the two would make it out alive...but got my HEA. Enjoyed how characters from The Puppetmaster came into play, helping Cain and Riley to get that HEA they never thought possible.

This is the end of Riley and Cain’s story. Cain needs Riley’s computer genius to get revenge on the people who killed his family. He has an agreement with another family to help get the revenge he wants, but at a cost, Riley. As he trains Riley, he starts to have feelings for her. He has already lied to her and she knows it. She does not trust Cain to just let her go or protect her. She is making her own plans to escape. The chemistry between them is so explosive and there is a connection they have to each other. Will Cain change his mind and let her go, or will Riley escape? You need to read Tied before reading this. It is a very good duet that you should dive right into.

I thought this was a great conclusion for Riley and Chase, loved these characters. I can’t believe I read this book in just one day, so you know it had to be a can’t put it down story that you had to get to the conclusion. Riley really made me feel bad for her, I don’t want to elaborate because of spoilers. Everything flowed just perfectly, the sex, the shape of the characters. One great thing is that the payoff was great! Didn’t expect it, but I loved it. You won’t be let down at all. I’ve read all of Linnea May’s books and she hasn’t let me down yet. Thanks for this one too.

This is the second half of Riley and Cain's story. You must read Tied before starting this book or you will not know the complete story and you will be confused. This couple's story is dark and has many twists. This romance easily captures and holds your interest while keeping you on the edge wondering what will happen next. As the intensity increases, secrets are exposed, the danger grows and the tension builds you will be completely consumed by this read and its complex characters. I am posting a sincere, elective review.

Marked was a thrilling, intriguing and emotional romance. Tied the first book left off on a cliffhanger and I really wanted to know about that phone call. This book answers all the questions. Cain was out for revenge and he kidnapped Riley for her to do a job. But could they trust each other? Glad Cain felt guilty and let his true feeling show. Riley was smart, strong and just went for it. This had a bit of everything from deception, betrayal, lust, steam, danger, twists and love. A well written romance that captured my attention from the start to the end.

I preordered this book but still grabbed at an arc because I was soooo anxious to get to the next installment of Tied. Marked, in my humble opinion, was a shorter book...125 pages. I zipped through this book in 45 minutes it almost as if I was in a silent bubble. Riley and Cain’s storyline was like watching a pinball machine and everything go all over the place. Linnea May is one of my top five authors. With over 10,000 books on my kindle cloud I decided to binge read every Linnea May book I owned. The Violent Series, Puppetmaster each and every book leading up to Marked. She is a queen.

Marked is book 2 of the Tied duet. I wish both were longer but especially this book Marked. I found it a bit too short for my tastes but it was good. There are many twists and turns that keep you reading - I just felt it was over too soon. The story is about Cain and Riley. It is quite dark, quite dangerous and quite emotional. The story centers around Cain’s need for revenge and we assume Riley is just in the wrong place but she did, in fact, overhear Riley something that changed the course of her life and in a few short minutes, everything was different.

This is the conclusion to Tied, the story of Cain and Riley, you must read Tied first to understand what is happening here. Marked will take you on a ride of suspense, intrigue and secrets to find its conclusion in what is a dark and gritty, (though understandably, not as much as the first book) love story. Great characters as you’d expect from Linnea and good story writing....will Cain be able to let her go, will Riley get away? You’ll have to read to find out, you won’t be disappointed, I really enjoyed this book.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book and this is my honest opinion.
