Full Disclosure: A Memoir

Rate this book
Vince's career in the West Midlands Police started in 1979. Murderers, paedophiles, armed robbers, thieves, perverts, kidnappers, blackmailers, pimps and international drug dealers - these were just some of the convicted police officers that he worked alongside during his service. Enjoy his painfully honest memoirs which include a murder investigation that was totally 'botched and messed up'. His book is harrowing, heart-breaking, calamitous, hilarious and just crammed with larger than life characters. Strap in for a roller coaster ride.

About the author

Vince Smith is married and has brought up five children. He joined the Royal Army Pay Corps in 1972 aged just 15. For six years the Army gave him the grounding that stood him in good stead for the rest of life. Then for family reasons, he left the Army. In 1979, following Maggie Thatcher's landslide election win, Vince joined the West Midlands police. Through repetition and osmosis, he learned how to police the busy streets of Birmingham. He has written about just some of the incidents he dealt with. Some were hilarious others heartbreaking. He retired from the West Midlands police in 2007, and then worked for Warwickshire police, as an investigator, for seven years. In 2014 Vince retired.

What a great read ! Couldn't put it down reading about Vinces escapades and cases that he dealt whilst a police officer in West Midlands Police and later as an investigator with Warwickshire Police . Brought back so many memories of when policing was policing . The young bobbys today would certainly get a shock if we could send them back forty years in time !!!! A time when practicality ,commonsense ( most of the time !)and discretion reigned supreme . Loved all the different characters in the book .... not many around now ! Practical jokes used to be a fundemental part of policing and Vince was certainly not adverse to those and describes them very well ! There are not many books that i pick up and read cover to cover in almost one session but this is not one to miss !! Read it !

This is a book that you should take time out to read .It is narrative, funny with great laugh out loud moments .
Touchingly honest detail of childhood that does not tip over to sentimentality which is refreshing .
The book moves with pace but remains fluid in the writing style .
A very REAL nsight into the force in its not very PC years .
A book rich in life ,humour ,survival ,friendship and some sadness .............waiting for the next one

A great read

Excellent read and an insight to policing as it should be. Unfortunately this seems not to be the case nowadays. All the experienced police officers subject of compulsory retirement were sadly missed, their experience lost. Very few dedicated investigators left, sad really.
