More About Peripheral or Tangential Topics Than Conversation
This book purports to teach you about how to talk to anyone. Unfortunately, I found the three books contained within this compilation to have little to do with that. The author spent so much time on tangential or peripheral topics that there was little emphasis on actually talking or conversing with others. For instance, the first book in this collection, actually titled *How to Talk to Anyone*, seemed more about choosing to be assertive with others than conversation. Fully over half of the book was about this topic. Conversation, including nonverbal aspects, was only discussed in the later part of the book. I thought some topics were just too bizarre for a book supposedly about conversation, like the time spent on discussing inhibition, aggressiveness, and social rules and societal norms. Even within the sections that were specifically about conversation in all three books, the author spent so little time on each subtopic. I received a PDF copy of this book, and some subtopic sections listed in the table of contents were only given a page or two. So not only is this book mostly tangential, when he actually gets to the conversation topics, he doesn't spend much time on them. If you are looking for a book to help you improve your ability to talk with people, you will find much better ones out there.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
This book can be used as a self-help manual to learning and improving social skills. Since I don’t particularly like seeing a therapist, I figured I would use this book to help guide me. The numerous examples and exercises in this book will help me improve my existing social skills and learn others.
