I'm a huge fan of the story of the Titanic, it's such a heartbreaking tale of human sacrifice and courage., so when this was recommended to me, I was instantly draw into the book and read the entire trilogy in a matter of days.
Diana is a young woman who is traveling to America for a new life, one she doesn't truly want, but accepts because she wants to make her father happy. Alexander is a young Scottish man traveling to America to make a new start and to provide for his family.
They meet on the fateful voyage and quickly discover that there is more to life than just duty. There is also love.
Since this is a story about the Titanic, you know how this story is going to end for the young lovers.
Diana is 1st class and Alexander is 2nd class, which is a good switch from most stories I've seen featuring 1st and 3rd class stories which mirror the movie. Despite their class differences, it's still a treat to see their feelings develop of the span of the voyage.
The author put lots of time and research into this story and it shows with the world that she has brought us into. I felt that I was actually in 1912, watching everyone as they lived their lives, they felt so real to me.
The pacing was good, even with the timeline of the ships demise. I will admit I had to pause once the ship hit the iceberg, as I knew what was going to happen, but was pleasantly surprised with the ending.
This is one of my favorite reads of 2023 and I'm so glad that I was able to read it, I hope that others will read it and enjoy it as much as I have.
