So this book had promise. I believe the author has a fun idea but the writing left much to be desired. The book failed to set up the system with enough details for the reader to understand both the base system and the MC's difference. There are irregular info drops and the flow of the story was uneven. It seemed to me.That the writing was better as the book progressed but is in dire need of an editor. There is also the MC becoming to powerful to fast and his skill acceleration is to obscene. No one becomes an expert archer in a couple hours, as an example. With work I think the author can improve the book and I hope he does before the second book.
This was a bit all over the place. Axel is Alex - except that gets dropped nearly right away. People act in a manner to serve the plot, and not in a believable manner. The plot is at once convoluted but also predictable. Axel gambles as his power... but literally wins every time he does. That isn't a gamble.
I finished it, so two stars, but I couldn't say much more good about it than that.
It was okay. I personally didn't love the idea of rolling a dice for everything. I like to see characters increase in strength and skill. And I suppose he did a bit but it wasn't my cup of tea.
3.25 stars. While I did enjoy parts of this, the overall execution felt a bit too YA for me. The premise was interesting, but the magic system wasn’t clearly explained, and the MC’s gambler class lost impact since he always won. The stakes never felt real because nothing truly bad ever happened.
His progression also felt too fast and not fully earned. Increasing his attributes seemed to automatically improve his skills, even though he didn’t train nearly enough to justify his level of combat ability. And while he did face challenges, his victories came too easily to be believable.
Overall, it had some entertaining moments, but the lack of real tension and the YA-style tone made it hard for me to stay fully invested.
While there are several errors throughout the book the storyline and character were good. Unsurprising as this is the author's first book. I enjoyed this book and the change it brings with the Gambler class. I look forward to reading the next one.
A young man had almost lost hope of finding something he was meant to do, when he found an amazing secret. He was one of a rare few who is above all in being special. The one thing I did not like was this book was written in 2020, and there is no more books. I like it that much.
This was a fun little book. The system takes a bit to get used to, but, eventually, it finds its groove. If you are looking for a (fairly) quick book to get out of the heat of the summer, pick this one up.
It's fine. I was expecting something more mature, and this feels like something for a younger reader. I do like the idea of the mc's special class it has a lot of potential.
