I never thought my chambers would be my shelter and safety, and even then, I sleep lightly. Awake I am fearful, seeing the changes in Kane I cannot comprehend. Sleep brings me no solace, as it is lit by a burning brightness that engulfs me, and a stranger's voice I do not trust. I search for the flame that Kane had lit for me, burning in his eyes, but now I find only darkness. The fire that burned deep within my core for Kane, expounded by our bonded souls, feels cold and empty. Something lurks behind his evil stare and vindictive snarling lips, and it may threaten the lives of every soul, creature, and mortal across the realms.
Time is running out.
Will I be forced to make a choice that not only kills my beloved, but decimates my soul as well? Or is Willem wrong, and all hope is not lost deep within the purple haze of the Underworld?
Kane
The void is all around me, twisting my soul…breaking me.
I search for her, but I cannot see.
I call to her, but she cannot hear me.
If I don't break free of this empty damnation, Drogaem will take it all. The Underworld is not his only target, and though I scream out warnings, my voice cannot penetrate the forever of my cage.
Bailey Dark is obsessed with all things dark, hot, and supernatural.
From Fae to Aliens, her heroes are thoroughly alpha and pure raw masculinity. When she's not writing (which is hardly ever) she's busy watching every movie in the marvel universe, or binging supernatural on her couch.
Almost every book has a cliffhanger. I thought this was the last book in the series so I was not worried about a cliffhanger, but I was wrong, this was not the last book in the series. I have liked each book in this series and each one seems to be better than the last. I like the anti- hero Kane and his growing relationship with Briara. I am looking forward to the next book, but hope it is either the last book in the series or at least does not end in a cliffhanger again.
Uh oh. We've reached the "all is lost" part of the story, and things are looking darker than ever, and we don't know how Briar and Kane will get themselves out of this pickle.
Why do men always have to go after dangerous artifacts in the name of power? Well, Kane may be a God, but he's still a man. Thankfully, he's got Briar, who is coming in touch with her awesome powers in the meantime, which will hopefully save his silly (but hotttt) ass.
While Drogaem may be inhibiting Kane's body, which Briar is rightly repulsed by, the dream sequences between Briar and Kane are some of their hottest moments yet! Rawrrrr.
I wish the 5th book was out already... I can't wait to find out what happens!
I'm starting to be glad I stuck with this series. Brian has finally found her backbone and is taking action. Not sure how she suddenly found out how to do things magically since it was never explained and just happened but I was hoping that she would have focused on that a bit more and built herself up to be stronger which is why I wasn't surprised how this book ended. I hope I see more of this stringer Briar than the cried who waits for everyone to save her from herself.
I read this book in one sitting!! I just could not step away! The whole book was so intense and riveting that I just had to see if through. As always Bailey's writing draws you right in to the heart of the characters and you feel all the emotion. This book is the perfect continuation to Briar and Kane's tale and sets the story up for the next one. I'm simply dying to read the final book!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review
It's BOOK 4 people !!!! Briar and Kane still haven't consummated the relationship and oh...a cliffhanger AGAIN!
Yes, I'm annoyed and sick of trilogies or more. They should be banned. Jk. I slept and skipped through these whole series and when things started to get interesting in book 4, i found it was a cliffhanger, yet again.
Sadly, I won't be catching up with this series. Hope, you guys enjoy it. I'm done. Peace out.
Another gripping instalment. Briar is having to learn to live with Kane even though hes not the same since putting on the crown of the last king of the Underworld. He is more cruel and wicked. But Briar doesnt want to give up on him feeling that her Kane is still in there somewhere. Briar put plans into action when she realizes that Kane is possessed...but to what cost ? And is it too late?
Its official I'm sucked into this cheesy, easy read series. I didn't really like Briar until towards the end of this book. Before that I found her to be dramatic...but now everything is dramatic so she flows right along with the story. Spice level 1🌶/5. Like I said in my last book review glacial slow burn and I stand by my thoughts this could have all been 1 book.
These books just keep getting better and better. I can't wait to see how this series ends, even though , I don't want it to. Ms Dark is a phenomenal writer with a unique gift for creating such beautifully detailed stories that capture your imagination and pulls you into unimaginable adventures.
I could not put this book down. It grabs you, pulling you into the story like you become a part of it. Very dark and intriguing read, the main characters are written so well, you feel what they feel. Brian's strength of character and love permeates throughout this book.
Gosh. The last book was so interesting and hard to put down. This one was the complete opposite. The entire book consists of the main character trying to figure out what the reader already knows so it’s very boring. Everything interesting happens in the last couple of chapter so you could probably just read those and go on to the next book.
With Kane’s body being taken over by Drogaem, Briar needs to find a way to free him soon. Or the mortal world and the underworld will fall.
Briar’s character development throughout this novel is immense. The plotting, the loyalties and that ending made it hard to put this installment down. I need to start the last book immediately.
So one mistake so far in chapter 2 saids it's briar when. It's really kanes point of view I'm hating right now the old deaths role maybe it's because I don't like his character that much I seem to want to skip pass his stuff alot but it did start getting better towards the end of it so I will read on I just hope they finally get to be together
I have read the entire series so far and it is amazing! The story grabs you and doesn't let go Briar and Kanes relationship is simple and complicated at the same time it leaves you on the edge of your seat I read all of the books in a day and anxiously wait for the next one.
As usual with this AMAZING author I'm always left wanting more and more of the story. She does well painting her scenery and sculting characters. Happily waiting for the final book in this series.
This is my least favorite book in the series. It was just blah. This book just stretched out the story, not really adding anything. I will read the final book, so hopefully we can see the relationship of The Shadow King and his bride.
I have really liked this series so far. The first couple of books left me wanting more but this book kept me reading page after page until I was done. Can not wait for the next book.
