Darkness lurks beneath the Yellow Tower's golden fields. The leaders are missing. A boy-king rules like a tyrant. And Cipher has been banished to work the land as the lowest of servants.
But Cipher's memories remain, as do his scars. The stories from his past, and of those around him, weave together and reveal a path forward. Cipher must face his fears before he can rise again to confront the colorless threat against the Five Towers.
J.B. Simmons is the bestselling author of twelve books that bring hope to dystopia. Readers can't put them down.
The Five Towers series takes you to a world you'll never forget. Cipher wakes up in a mysterious tower with no memories of his former life. He must learn who he was before he can figure out why he's here...and how to get out.
The Unbound trilogy tells the story of a teen from Manhattan with nightmares of a dragon and the world ending in 2066. It has been acclaimed as "The Da Vinci Code meets Hunger Games meets Left Behind... An imagining epic." (Hugh Hewitt)

Definitely the best book this far. I enjoyed the difference of Yellow, their goal being to work together towards healing. I am very interested in learning more about the darkness, the Colorless one, and what lies in the Black Tower.
“No kidding! But enough of all this death and fear talk. We’re back together. Let’s make the most of this Yellow Tower and its dirt and dogs and grains. How do we make the most of it when we’re trapped? We bake a cake!” - J.B. Simmons
Every time I read the next book in the Five Towers series, I think to myself, "This is my favorite yet. When I go back and think on each one, I am still trying to figure out which is my clear favorite. The Yellow Tower is no exception. Here, Cipher is led into, as he calls it, an agrarian cage where he works a plot of land, sweats to grow a single grain, and to have dreams that help him understand his past and heal from it. Meanwhile, in the recesses under the yellow tower, sinister plots are afoot and as Cipher is reunited with his friends, he must unite with unlikely sources to help the tower.
The book is light in certain places, dark in others, and gives much pause for retrospection.
I really enjoyed this one. I found The Yellow Tower very different and more interesting than the last one. I am so glad the collars were not overused in this one. And I hope we don't see that in the last one. It will be interesting to me to see how this story comes to an end. This hasn't been a blow me away series, but it's been interesting and enjoyable. And just right to fill these long cold afternoons. Excited to start the last book.
This novel is a great continuation of the battle of good vs evil. As a former 6th grade teacher, I fully approve this series. It is creative, funny at times and uses people from history well. Lots of thought provoking writing, not just entertainment.
This fantasy is so close to perfect! I love the intrigue and the action, I love the twists and turns and recurring characters. The growth in each character and the Christian themes are incredible. I only wish we saw some progress in the relationship between Cipher and Emma!!!
The first 40% of the book was a little monotonous but after that it picked up and I really enjoyed the rest of the book! Looking forward to reading the conclusion of this series.
This was a tremendous improvement from the last book. The collars are still overused, but they weren’t as abused as the last book.
Cipher begins to grow more into the leader he is supposed to be. Emma still takes some of his greatness away, but she was definitely more of a partner to Cipher rather than the person who saves him all the time.
The plot thickens greatly as the towers begin to collide and the world around them begins to collapse. The Yellow tower really launches Cipher into the final book with a lot of momentum! Can’t wait to see how this all turns out!
The Yellow Tower is another wonderful addition to The Five Towers series. There is such a wonderful balancing act that is done in this book and throughout the series that keeps the reader on the edge of their seat and wanting more. We see glimpses into the past, the future, what was, and what could have been and it really invokes a deep, introspective thought as to our actions and how they really truly effect those around us. How one simple action can change the course of not just one life but dozens, even hundreds of lives. An entire legacy created or smashed by one selfish action.
The Yellow Tower continues to follow Cipher and his friends on their quest to bring a balance to all of the towers. This book isn't so much about the external battle as it is the internal battle. There is fighting but much of the Yellow tower is about what happens within the person, not so much what happens outside of the person. We see this in Cipher's interactions with Max and Seymour and Emma and how he is able to connect with them on an emotional level to befriend them to help not just himself advance but all of them.
I have a strong interest in the "Colorless One" and where it will take us in the Black Tower and how Cipher overcomes his demons there. How the "Colorless One" corrupts and how it weasels it's way into the souls of those it inhabits. I really want to know how it has taken over an entire tower. We end with a great image of Cipher walking off of the battlefield of the scouring into Black to try and save the towers.
I have my thoughts on who, or what, the Colorless One really is but I will wait, impatiently, for what the author has conjured up in his mind. If you have made it through the first three books of this series, which is not a hard thing to do, you will not be disappointed one bit by The Yellow Tower. I'm not sure if this is the best book in the series but if it isn't, it is the second best book in the series. I stand by my thought that J.B. is a very underrated author and I wish more people would find his works.
The plot thickens! Rather than going through the usual routine of discovering one's self through another facet of the prisim, the series takes a turn as the characters face a new foe in addition to the scouring they still must complete. All the strings are starting to come together! I am glad we still got a glimpse of how the Yellow Tower operates; however, I wish we got to see more on the scouring of the traits highlighted here. I'm even a little hazy on what this tower's purpose is- fear vs humility? Or courage? Also, I thought the story from Cipher's memories of Dr. Fitzroy is starting to get a little too strange for my taste. The rest of the story was very intriguing. I could hardly put it down! Still too YA for me. So glad I ordered the last book early so I don't have to wait to see what happens next!
If I had to choose one of the towers books that was my least fave, it might be this one...but I also don't see how the other books would have connected so well if this one hadn't been in the series. It did feel slightly long and drawn out, but the writing was still fun to read and of course, getting to explore another tower, one that we've heard so much about and yet still had a ton of mystery surrounding it was journey...pieces really come together in this book which is fun for the reader to discover.
Love this latest addition to a wonderful series! It brings some clarity to the previous towers and more understanding of the characters. I think that Cipher feels the same way. He knows what he must do. I have to admit I didn't remember anything about "the colorless one" but that is on me not the writer. I can hardly wait for the last installment of this exemplary story!
I have read all four books in the series. This is the best one so far. I read it in two days. As the series begins to come to a close I am understanding more and more each tower and its purpose. I highly recommend.
Another great book in the five towers series. Can't wait to find more about Paul Fitzroy and the towers. Do yourself a favor and read this book along with anything else J.B. Simmons has written.
Love this series very good much better then the last book wasn't as repetitive. Fast and easy read! I can't wait to finish the series and see where this goes. And find out more about Dr fitzroy
