J.E. Cluney is a full-time author who lives on the Sunshine Coast in Australia. She spends her days writing, binging on TV shows, and reading. With a slight addiction to chocolate to fuel her midnight writing.
J.E. Cluney has many projects lined up in the reverse harem genre, and her best-selling series, 'Corviticus University' is only one of many.
This book is filler. All of it - bar the last few pages to try and get the reader interested in following their adventure in the next book. But it felt as though Allison's birthday celebration could've been tacked onto the end of the previous book and the series wouldve been finished.
Honestly if this book was in this series before this point, this would've been a one star only because the characters were so well established in the previous three books could you have any enjoyment, it felt more like fanfic of the characters daily lives than an actual entry into the series.
I’m currently reading the Boxset, I am also reviewing each book individually.
Cliffhanger(?): Yes. Relationship Type: RH> Reverse Harem: MMFMM M/M(?): Very Lite, mainly mentioned but no actual scenes, so far not as much as I was expecting. F/F(?): Not in this book, I was actually really hoping Lucy was going to appear. Heat: 3.5/5, while there’s quite a bit of heat, I was expecting more in variety(?) if that make sense. Romance: It does feel a tad ‘insta-y’ to me the longer I read, the ‘I Love You’s’ don’t feel…earned(?) they feel like words that should just be said. Pacing: This was actually quite a fast read, it definitely came across as filler read but still enjoyable regardless. Mid-Mid Fast. Drama: 3.5/5 Suspense: 3-3.5/5
While I do enjoy this series, it almost has a ‘one note-ish’ vibe, I feel like the plot so far in this series is Fast yet Slow-going. I feel like there isn’t enough drama to meet its current development, again I feel like the relationships & powers don’t feel earned. I’m a little concerned that I might have to read something else to be able to zone back into this book/series, so I don’t end up getting bored.
This was not my favourite book in the series and the ending with Walter and the scarlets dagger is definitely a redemption but overall it seemed to go nowhere. It focused on lucas and skips familiws but where in the other books they had strained relationships when they saw them everything was pretty much fine the actual story seemed pointless that they spent three books lining up
This was definitely a filler book like other people were saying. Legit like no plot just happy times and celebrations with the guys and Allison. I still enjoyed my time reading it but nothing extraordinary and most of it except the last like 3 chapters you could probably skip to be honest.
This book was more of a filler book. A whole lot of nothing happened and the story line stalled in a big way. Large chunks could’ve been left out, speeding up the timeline and getting to the larger conflict, hinted at the very end, much sooner. I understand the desire to stretch out a series, but it’s a huge bummer as a reader when authors do that.
I LOVE the Corviticus University world! There’s nothing better than the magic that Ms. Cluney weaves into her stories. I don’t know what it is about Allison and her harem, but they are my favorite out there. I think it’s their love and acceptance of everyone’s quirks that just melts my heart.
Family Ties is a sweet book that follows the group around after the whole wendigo mess. You get to see them bond more and meet more of the families. So many laughs are had; I had tears rolling down my face from laughing so hard in a few spots. Then after all this amazing chillness, you get a big BOOM at the end and life’s about to go from normal back to messy. I can’t wait for the next to find out what all these new revelations mean!!
I love this series so much! It has the perfect mixture of slice-of-life storytelling, mixed with a captivating mystery that has my brain working overtime to figure everything out.
This installment has the characters recovering from the previous battle with the wendigo and facing new obstacles in their lives. All the while, their relationships are developing with each other, and we get to see a lot more of their individual family lives too! These characters are exceptionally well-written and I feel like I know them so well at this point, it's great to still be learning about their pasts and what has shaped them into the people they are today.
I absolutely adore J.E. Cluney's creativity with the magical world she's created. Once again she's adding new layers to magic and what it can do, from day to day life to huge plots. I love seeing what she comes up with in each book she writes!
This book was odd. This book feels like a filler book. We find out what’s happening between big events while clues to what is to come are told. Which is fine and between books are needed but it was kinda hard to get through. If I wasn’t invested in this story from previous books I wouldn’t have finished this book to be honest. I’m not sure I care about what happens next. The setup has left much to be desired. I do want to be clear that while this will hopefully be my least fav book of the series it isn’t a bad book. It just wasn’t what I expected. I liked the family and the romantic love shown. There was some good character growth for multiple characters. The plot just needs to be worked on. This book is weak compared to the others. Looking forward to a stronger next book.
I love that we get to see Ally's family coming together for her in this book for her birthday. They're a hoot, and adding alcohol, magic, and mischief magic makes it all the better! It definitely had me smiling a few times in amusement.
There's a tiny bit of mystery in this book as well, both with a ghost now living part time in Ally's void and a brief encounter with a young woman who recognizes her at work and comments on her relationship with Skip. The latter wasn't a big part of the story, however, though their second encounter did hint at something more sinister going on.
The main characters are still a bit "smex obsessed," and I'm to the point of skimming or even outright skipping about half of those scenes now.
I admit I'm getting a little tired of reading the series, but I'm still intrigued about what's going on, so I'll continue on!
Great new start to the new series with a twist from the last trilogy. I love how the bond is developing between Ali, Skip, Lucas, Marcus and Oliver, a true family. I love how some of their individual families relationships are mending but I would love the pink demonic Barbie to get her comeuppance....... This is a must read, but read books 1-3 first as this is a continuance. I do hope for many more books when this tale concludes, as this is a series that can continue well into the future. It is well written, character development is great and I was in stitches with laughter at their antics. There are many more stories left for this group. I have read many series that have run its course, Ali and Co leave me wanting more.
This book had a lot of interaction and family time. I loved the Harry Potter child like innocence to the Easter egg hunt, tents and flying horse back rides. Mixed in with the naughty birthday activity between her and her four mates. Not to mention everyone should have at least one grandmother like Trisha. The only reason I took off a star was I love when in the books before there was active mystery being solved. Sure they discover and meet her special new void friend, but there is no real investigation into it. It's all explained enough just the mystery is solved too quickly for me. It's a great book. I'll probably reread it again about the time the next one comes out.
So this book was epic, definitely a lot less drama than the previous books but I think that's purely because what comes next is going to be a doozie!! I'd just like to say how refreshing it was to have read the first 3 books and have that storyline tied up to a degree. This book does tie in to that but it also feels like the start of a new series with the main characters from the previous trilogy! This book was more what I call a filler so lots more details on their families but not a lot of action in a suspense sense. There were definitely some hot scenes between everyone as well as some brilliantly funny bits. I devoured this book and the trilogy in a weekend, it was definitely a 'i can't put this down series so far'
Usually when there's a book that feels like a break from all the action it feels like the story is being dragged on. But here we got the perfect amount of suspense something is building up, while our fans has some good times. Because honestly sometimes it does suck when we don't get a prolonged happy.
Who wouldve thought that the Wendigo situation would evolve into what it is now.
It was great seeing the families and their dynamics... even the toxic ones. Each had their own thoughts about their multiple mating. But OMG do I love Granny Trish and her reactions. Great birthday present.
OUR Favorite Banshee has some secrets even from herself. But it is also great to see her growth.
Love the guys... Ollie, Lucas, Marcus, & Skip are all great.
Allison (FMC) and her guys - Lucas, Ollie, Skip and Marcus are trying to get things back to normal in Book 4 in this series. Building bridges with family and dealing with a ghost that pops up to complicate things. Still with all that going on theres also plenty of laughs with chocolate bunnies starting food fights, chocolate eggs with cheese knives and one that flashes its bits, lol. Omg i actually died laughing at all that. So funny. Add to that plenty of sexy times with all of the guys and blimey it was hot! I just love Allison and her guys. I think this series is a great read and i cant wait for the next book
I downloaded this book and the collection of books 1-3 with Kindle Unlimited. I feel the first and second books could have been combined, with the first book being condensed. I couldn’t remember what the write up was for the book and the whole time I was reading it, I kept waiting for the storyline to reveal itself, but it didn’t. The first book moves extremely slow with not much direction, and it isn’t until book 2 that the story begins to progress. Then each book just ends, with no wind down. It’s a very blunt ending and the storyline and plot aren’t well developed.
Now there is a title you don't ever expect to see!
I have been thoroughly impressed by this Australian written, and set in Australia, paranormal romance/ urban fantasy with erotica. Steamy scenes burn the pages and fantastic world building skills place you in this magical version of Australia today, where magic hides in plain sight, and magical species live among us. Ripping good yarns, all these books; set in a university and world you can really sink your reading teeth into. Bumped into this author, so to speak, in a book of short stories, and went to find more after reading her piece. Looking forwards to the rest of the story to come!!!
Wow, oh wow. I was so excited to be able to read this amazing book. It moves along at a great pace, making it the perfect reading speed. The characters are amazing and it is awesome learning more about them and no matter what you will still fall in love with them and the story will grab you and take you away from your everyday reality for a while. This is an awesome read that needs to be experienced. Once you start on this series, you will be hooked on it and wanting more, no doubt about it.
All I am going to say is can Ally please catch a break? We catch up with Ally and her merry band to see that things have calmed down in their lives and they address trying to get their lives back on track. Now that everything seems like everything is perfectly fine you know something happens. From an Uninvited semi-permanent gas to magical high jinx's that are really funny we just get one hit after another for our girl. Now there's a whole new bad guy out there and I have no idea what will happen next. I can't wait for the next book.
I have enjoyed this series so far. Although if you aren't familiar with Aussie slang, it can take a bit for the American brain to catch up. When I started the series, I thought it might be a 3 or 4 book series, but this is book 4 and it just started another arc. I have to admit that I'm not one for the mammoth long series as I tend to get burned out after awhile. This author does a really good job of not leaving the reader on a cliff hanger, but with enough mystery to read the next in the series. It is RH, and fast burn after book 1, with some odd m/m.
4 stars for Family Ties by J.E. Cluney . This is book four in the Corviticus University Series. Ok so this book has a lot more going on than the first three books. Allison is working on her Banshee powers and her mischief magic. Now that they beat the Wendigo it should all go back to normal, but is everything really over. IT seems like there is another threat to Allison and her guys. This story is unique and fast paced. I loved all the steam and the laugh out loud moments. I was not expecting the cliffhanger ending. I am anxiously waiting for the next book.
This series is fantastic, with Family Ties setting the bar even higher. There is so much emotion packed into this book, between family, between Allison and the men, between Allison and herself and her ghost. I cannot express how much I loved this book. It kept me on my seat. Fun fact, I read it while donating blood and the scene at Easter had me snorting so hard everyone was laughing at me, and the nurse had to come make sure my needle didn't move. I love this series and need the next book in my life!!
Ok this was kind of a staging book for the next story arc so it moved a little slower story wise than the last book. There was a lot of character relationship development and family development, probably the reason for the name even. Lots of fun hot steamy times and fun family laughter times. It was a pretty feel good and loving and witty book. Kind of a nice pace in a way after the heavy action of the last book. The plot is taking an interesting twist and I’m curious to see where it’s going to go.
I loved this book! I’ve loved reading and watching the relationship development between the characters. I’ve loved watching Ally also grow as a character and she’s grown so much from the first book into such a confident character. I loved her interacting with her family in such a loving way after having such a traumatic childhood it was so loving to read! I really can’t wait to read the next book!
This was a great instalment in the series. You learn and see a lot more about the guys relationships with their families. The issues that are written about are relatable despite the fact it’s set in a supernatural world. I love how how Ally gets to spend time with each of them individually and together as it develops their relationship even more. I was surprised at Walter being in her void, but it all makes sense after the ending.i can’t wait to see what happens next!
JE Cluney continues to develop in her writing style and we get to thoroughly enjoy this growth in her latest Corviticus University book: Family Ties.
There are so many delightful parts to this latest book in the series. Allison is ever closer to ‘her boys’ and her family and best friend are becoming integral to her life.
There are scenes that may make you blush in the RH story, but you will also smile sweetly and laugh out loud!
I really enjoyed Corviticus University: Family Ties because the focus shifts from all the craziness of the first three books and lets readers see Ally and her guys just be happy. There are many steamy moments throughout. We also get to see Ally get closer with her family. I am very much looking forward to the next book because we got a big warning at the end of this book, which means book 5 is going to get crazy again.
I absolutely love this entire series. Really thought this was going to be the last book. I was wrong!!! So excited series continues on. This story focuses more on family life after what happened in book 3. Then all of a sudden bam something happens and we get the almighty cliffhanger. I dont mind cliffhangers much. Means we get to read more!!!! Definitely a must read series. Really cannot wait to read next book!!! Love this author!!!
In this book of the series we see Allie and her guys living a peaceful time in their lives. We get to learn more about them and the chemistry they have together. It is well written and the characters growth is beautifully developed. It has a ton of humor that has me laughing throughout it. Towards the end of the the book the action starts back up and so does the mystery. Can’t wait to see what is going to happen next.
I absolutely love and adore this series, BUT this book kind of drags. I know it involves a lot of closure and setting up things for the next part of the series, but I could have read half the book on fast forward. Off to read the next book, bc I’m sure everything will pick up again. So yes absolutely read this book, but be prepared for lots of day in the normal life of a magical harem.
Allison & the boys just can’t seem to catch a break for very long at all. After dealing with the Windigo, and thinking that was the end of it, now she seems to have a permanent guest in her void. At least she has gotten to spend a little bit of quality time with her family and her guys. But she seems to attract danger, and now Walter is divulging dark secrets. Can’t wait for the next exciting adventure.
