This book is a wonderful read for authors. Whether you’re wanting to build a website—Home Base, Thacker calls it—or already have one, you’ll find much help and good ideas in this book. Thacker gives a lot of info and steps to take, but not without allowing room for each author to tailer the ideas to their own goals and personalities.

I’ve had two nagging questions concerning my own website for quite some time and this book addressed both. I immediately put the book down, went to my website, and updated it (to the best of my ability in what is available to me) according to the answer I’d received. I’ll be making the other change right away.

This book is a pleasant and friendly read.

This is a well-written and clearly explained guide to help authors build a solid platform. While a website remains the core of this platform, it’s only the start of the marketing authors need to carry out to improve their presence in a competitive market.

Fuelled by the author’s own experiences, the various aspects that make up the platform, including social media, are all addressed and supported by examples of good practice.

Thought provoking, inspiring but still practical, this book can help authors improve their platforms and marketing.

This book was more about attitude than practical specifics. But it has its value in that regard. First, in the beginning, just bringing you to an understanding of how you need to think to make it as an indie writer. By the end it’s progressing to what you need to achieve author rock stardom, but looking at the levels he described, you can come to the conclusion about how much and how far you want to go.

Great balance of detail and overview

It’s rare a book gets the balance of detail and overview. This book nails giving you enough information to get started and connect the overall direction to building a platform. Each chapter builds to the next. But you can go back to each chapter to refresh and take the next step.

I enjoyed this simple read about how to build your platform mainly on your website. The book also gives you great ideas to improve your author brand through a series of steps that take you on a greater journey of success and increasing book sales. The author talks about building more than just books, and to have a brand that is creative and fulfils customer needs. A great read.

This book is exactly what I needed

“Platform mastery” is the book I’ve needed for a long time. I’ve been wanting and needing to create an online presence for myself as a writer, yet was left confused with outdated material.

The message is clear and concise on how to achieve this goal. My only regret is that I didn’t read it sooner!

Much Too Basic

If you're new to the Internet and know nothing about social media, this book might be useful. However, at least one piece of information is badly outdated, and the rest can be found elsewhere.

Although wishing for more details on certain sections, this book provided a well laid out approach to building a platform. Recommended read for someone attempting to find the path to building an author platform.

First with actionable steps

I read a lot of books on this topic and this is the first that I just want to sit down with MS use each chapter and paragraph as a to do list. This is so incredibly helpful!
