Villasukkien uusi vuosi

Vuodenkierron inspiroimat sukkamallit ovat näyttäviä mutta simppeleitä. Niihin on neulottu vuodenaikojen vaihtelevia tunnelmia, luonnon herkkiä yksityiskohtia sekä unelmia, yllätyksiä ja taikaa.

Kirjan lyhyt- ja pitkävartisissa sukissa on pitsiä, palmikoita, pintaneuleita, kirjoneuleita ja niiden yhdistelmiä. Mukana on myös muutama suurta taitoa vaativa malli. Ohjeet on tehty helposti seurattaviksi, ja sukat valmistuvat joutuisasti.

Niina Laitinen on Suomen suosituimpia neulesuunnittelijoita. Hänen kaksi ensimmäistä kirjaansa Villasukkien vuosi sekä Satumaiset silmukat ovat olleet suuria myyntimenestyksiä, ja niiden käännösoikeudet on myyty useaan maahan.

Beautiful patterns, beautiful book, really but not one I'd buy for my own shelf, simply because I don't knit socks. Other than that, there's a lot I liked about this book. The pictures were clear, and showed the socks from a variety of angles. You got a good look at the front, back, and heels for almsot all the patterns - certainly the ones where it mattered. There is a variety of styles - from knee socks to anklets - and a variety of techniques too. I enjoyed seeing the different patterns, and how some of them had themes that carried from season to season in different patterns. The little sentences about the inspiration were fun too, but then, I always like to see what ideas struck the designer and how it turned into the pattern I'm seeing.

I haven't made any of the patterns (as mentioned, really don't knit socks) so no verdict on how clear the instructions are, but the charts are nice and clear, and she gives ways to contact her or follow her online if you're needing errata. I would definitely make use of the charts, by the way. I might not make socks, but I certainly make fingerless mitts, and sock charts are often easy to adapt for mitts.

Overall, would recommend taking a look at it. It's great inspiration, and if you actually are a sock knitter, this would be a fun one with some unique patterns to make.

Great photographs, instructions and charts. Apparently I will need to learn colorwork for some of my favorites. Here are the ones I want to remember:
Wedding Waltz,
Flirtation maybe as slippers,
Adventure, love the colors,
Lake Tiilikka,
Frozen Seas,
and Christmas Eve.

Full disclosure: haven’t made the patterns yet. The photos are gorgeous and the charts look well-developed.
