After nearly losing his life documenting conflict in Libya, photographer, Guy Martin, turned his attention to a seemingly less dangerous documenting on set of Turkish soap operas. After a failed coup against the Turkish government in 2016 and the protests that ensued, Martin began photographing protesters taking part in the demonstrations. Parallel State alternates between images of TV set productions and pictures of street protests, resulting in a multidimensional body of work.
Guy Martin is publicly known primarily as an English motorcycle racer, who also works as a lorry mechanic and TV presenter. He has mainly competed in road racing events such as the Isle of Man TT, Ulster Grand Prix and North West 200. Since 2011, Martin has also found success as the front man of several television programmes focusing on his passions of engineering, motor vehicles and speed.
