Can't wait for more!
I don't have a long history or a lot of background on this character, but I thought this was a decent jumping off point. It seems as though this title ties into some of the other Valiant titles I've read recently, and I'm excited to find out where exactly Bloodshot fits into the grand scheme of this universe.

description

The short version is that Bloodshot is an overpowered science experiment due to the nanites that not only rebuild him, but also allow him access to computers, heighten his senses, and give him super strength. Plus some other neat stuff.

description

In this volume, he finds out that his memories are not only all false, but that he has multiple false families (or origins?) to go along with those memories. And whatever black ops agency he worked for just sort of plugged in whatever scenario/origin they thought would best motivate him to do their dirty work for them.
So, no. His son Timmy wasn't trapped in a well by terrorists, because he never had a son named Timmy.
Bloodshot is understandably pissed.

description

Spoilery things happen, and he ends up teaming up (ish) with a psiot named Pulse and a nurse.
It's good. Read it.

Bloodshot is part Universal Soldier, part Jason Bourne. Or if you want to go Marvel, he's the Punisher with Wolverine's healing ability. Swierczynski writes nonstop action really well. This is a fantastic start to a character whose 90's Valiant version I didn't really care for.

Bloodshot is a killing machine with nanites in his blood operated by a shadowy psuedo-government organization. He's been given false memories in order to control him. When he realizes what's happening, he goes after Project Rising Spirit to find out who he is. PRS is one of the touch points of the Valiant universe that crosses over with both Harbinger and Archer & Armstrong. If you ever read Valiant comics that's one of their trademarks, how tightly woven their universe is. You never need to read the other books to understand what's going on, but if you do, you do get more out of the reading experience as a whole.

2020 Addendum for the Bloodshot movie
The movie does follow the basic premise of the comic even though the movie abandons the look of the character for the most point (probably because Vin Diesel couldn't be bothered with sitting in a makeup chair for that long without filming himself dancing.) I will say that the movie is a slog and your better off reading the comics instead.

Great story!

I’m reconnecting with Valiant comics and Bloodshot is one from the early days in 90s that for whatever reason I just could not get into.

When Valiant relaunched in 2012 this one was front and center, perhaps their most recognizable title.

Writer Duane Swierczynski and team bring back the angst and confusion from the old days and tie it all together into a new character and a new direction.

Bloodshot has nanomachines in his blood that make him damn near invulnerable and that also provides enhanced fighting skills. Mix in a family sized portion of mental illness and post-traumatic stress disorder and more than a smidgen of righteous indignation for the toolbags who’ve used him, and we have this BADASS storyline.

What happens when the special agent killing machine wakes up and is none too pleased at what he’s been made to do?

Throw in some other cool characters and we’re off and running. I knew I’d like it this time and did more than I thought and this return trip to the Valiant universe keeps getting better and better.

I cound't stop reading the book until i finished it in one sit down. It was a very fast paced book.

Bloodshot was probably the most wronged character in The Valiant Universe. The Plot was Government's RSP program (The Rising Spirit Program) fooled him, used him... he had no life, everything he knew was a lie, RSP made him kill countless innocent people with brainwash (and he's not the only one, RSP used many psiots (psiot was a name for people with psytic powers in Valiant Universe) and people too for their black ops missions), Bloodshot realised all of those thanks to one renegade RSP scientist's intervention... and now, he wanted to know who he was, got some revenge and got his life back. And RSP just wanted his ''damaged'' properity back.

I can't recommend it more for people who like black ops, military, super powers, top secret goverment projects, sci fi and lots of violance.

This was a fun read and a quick one at that!

It starts with Bloodshot on some mission to kill someone but he is knocked down and then he is awoken by some guy named Mr Kuretich who tells him that he has been under mind control by someone called "Project Rising spirit" and how he has been killing so many people and now he remembers it and so he escapes from them and meets a nurse named Melissa and goes to check out one people from his memory and finds even thats a lie and amidst that he has to fight its leader, Oreck and another Psiot (think mutant) called Pulse. Will he be able to escape them but at what cost? And what really happened to him?

This volume was fast paced and it felt like watching a movie and thats the great thing about it. Its an action movie and yep typical scenarios and he feels like winter solider on amnesia with healing factor and damn the comic is bloody and it holds nothing back and does well to establish a mystery and who these characters are. Great stuff all around! The art was so good yep.

This was fun. We're talking kick ass waterslide levels of fun. I mean really, who doesn't love a good waterslide?

But you know what - this was even more than a waterslide. This was like going down the best waterslide ever, but at the same time you get to eat a box of donuts and they aren't getting soggy and remain delicious the whole way down.

Yup.

That's what this was. Waterslides and donuts!

Fuck, yeah!

What would you do if you found out that all your memories were false? If all the people you loved weren't real, and that the government had been using you as a guinea pig for an unstable nanite weapon instead? If you're Bloodshot, you get angry and murder everyone, which I think is a pretty fair response.

Continuing my comparisons between Valiant and Marvel, Bloodshot is the Wolverine of the Valiant Universe, with added Hideo Kojima (nanomachines!), and infinitely more likeable. Bloodshot's predicament is awful, as he watches his entire world fall apart around him. These four issues see him realise the truth and then set out to right these wrongs and discover his true identity, with help from a liberated metahuman named Pulse and a woman whose face is familiar thanks to his false memories, but has no idea who he really is.

The artwork is shared between Arturo Lozzi on the flashbacks, whose work is reminiscent of Ariel Olivetti in that it's quite static if well rendered, but since the flashbacks are meant to be remembered scenes, static works quite well, and Manuel Garcia whose one of the most reliable artists I've read in modern comics.

Of the three Valiant titles I've read so far, Bloodshot is the one that's hooked me the fastest. It's dirty, it's bloody, and it's great.

This was fast paced action fun with a truly fucked up plot for our hero.

Imagine being a weapon and believing you have a family and friends to come home to but in reality it's all a fake lie. Now imagine having your brain override and you find out it's all fake. So now you deal with that while also going after the people who've done it. It's both intriguing and screwed up all at once. Will Bloodshot be able to get out of the clutches of the people who are using him or forever trapped?

Duane gives a thrilling story of a man who has lost everything. In doing that he pushes to survive and it brings up some stellar fight scenes that can be really brutal. The art is solid and what surprised me the most was the slick fight scenes mixed with solid dialogue and storytelling. It's like if Robocop met a non-stop action movie. A 4 out of 5.

Duane Swierczynski can certainly write action. This book is almost entirely action piece to action piece, though it still manages to build an interesting story around a nanotech super soldier. But this actually explores a lot of the ramifications of nanotech, more than any other comic I've read. The book sets up Bloodshot, gives him his reason for revenge, and sets up his 'team.' Bloodshot is sympathetic even as he's a walking weapon of mass destruction. It's more energetic than the mainstream books I read, and has little issue with going over the top with the violence. Maybe a bit too much, but overall it's a good read.

A great introduction to the super-solider known as Bloodshot who is powered by nanites that course through his bloodstream. Bloodshot's mind has been filled will motivational false memories to the point that I'm not sure if he was once the man know as Ray Garrison or not.

Dr. Emmanuel Kuretich is a great supporting character who has decided to go against Project Rising Spirit and free Bloodshot. Pulse (Melissa Krajnac) is also introduced as a powerful psiot that posses EMP type powers that, of course, are the bane to Bloodshot's nanites. Perhaps, my favorite supporting character is Kara Murphy an EMT with Army service that comes into Bloodshot's life by chance but evolves into an ally and friend.

The storyline is similar to a "man out of time" troupe given the fact that Bloodshot doesn't know his true past and in interesting to the last page. A page turning, one sitting type volume.

The art is clear, sharp, and inline which what I typically see in Valiant books. I guess it's essentially the Valiant "in-house" style.

A good introduction and start to hopefully a long running comic deserves a four stars.

Why don't I read more independent? I read a lot of Image, but Valiant is amazing. There aren't a ton of cross overs, their characters are cool, and did I mention there aren't a ton of crossovers? Bloodshot is a super soldier with the completion of me, and a big red wound on his chest, but is superbly awesome. He finds out he's been used by his creators (hate it when that happens to me) and then he decides to take his revenge on them.( I also do that frequently) This is a very quick read, seeing as how it's only 4 issues, but it's a complete story, and only leaves you with the question "when can I devour more?" If you haven't read valiant, get on it people.

This was great! I hope there are more people with powers that show up in the next volume. I don't know if it's misprint, but the last page of issue four was like.... really pixalated and I couldn't read it, but that may have been the point? I dunno, but regardless, I think this and Rai are my favorite Valiant titles out of the ones I've read.

Pretty entertaining.

World: The art, is it a Valiant thing cause I'm still getting these muddy character designs and colors that when the action is all out really loses the character different faces and identities. The world building is good, this is like Jason Borne and that's a good thing cause it allows for a lot of story and drama. The world is very basic at this time cause we are following Bloodshot as he finds his past. Good and solid for what it is.

Story: Well paced and super fast. Hits the ground running and gives very little time for the reader to breath. There are snippets of quiet as we see Bloodshots "past" and it does anchor the story. Very basic very well written and hooks the readers very quickly. That's all I'm going to say lest I spoil anything. If you like cloak and dagger assassin spy government black ops punisher wolverine killings stories you will enjoy this.

Characters: Bloodshot is well written, he's basic at the moment cause of his motivations but his background is interesting and I look forward to having more of it revealed. The rest of the cast is also fairly basic but I hope to get more from Pulse and ...see I already forgot her name in the later issues but this group is interesting.

Good start.

Onward to the next book!

I'm not the biggest fan of Duane Swierczynski (his run on Dark Horse Comics' X is pretty abysmal), so I'm kinda surprised by how much I liked this one. It's like a hyperviolent, thoroughly modern take on Captain America, and while I don't normally dig that sort of thing, it really works well here. Moreover, the whole book feels like the template for a hard R rated action blockbuster, which is appropriate since Valiant is trying to get their own shared cinematic universe off the ground. I'll be very interested to see how they adapt this one.

An action flick in comic book format with an intense story and a very interesting lead character. The super-soldier concept it's stripped of the romantic and heroic vision established in books like Captain America and turned into a grim story of death, lies, and treachery for the sake of national security.

I loved Bloodshot when Valiant first started published comics in the early 90's and I love the revamped character that came out a year or so ago. Sci-fi action to the max. Would LOVE to see the movie. For prose readers be sure to check out Bloodshot: Better Angels, a short 24 page story published under the Kindle World line from Amazon. Action and even more action!

Shoot him in the head.

Ray Garrison (code-named Bloodshot) is similar to The Terminator. 🤓He will not stop until his mission is complete-Foreshadowing. During a mission, he gains consciousness while riding in an ambulance to the hospital. He's out to find answers, like, why does he keep remembering false memories?

2.75*. interesting, but lacking in memorable dialogue and any real personality for the main character (you can have a character know nothing about their past but still be a compelling protagonist; dean koontz' nameless series does it well). the violence/gore needs to be better balanced with the worldbuilding rather than overpowering any semblance of a plot. not the strongest start to a series, but there's potential.

Bloodshot is the epitome of human weapon creation. He has nano machines inside him that increase his strength, speed, and healing capabilities. Combined with his innate skills, he is almost unstoppable. The only problem is he has no idea what his true identity is.

For those unfamiliar with Valiant, there is a group called Project Rising Spirit that experiments on humans to bring out their maximum potential. With Bloodshot, they use him for high risk military missions and wipe his memory periodically. They also implant false memories about families and identities he never had. Bloodshot discovers this after a mission goes bad and rebels in an effort to find out the truth about himself.

There is a lot of action in this book, which is great given the premise. This character can be pretty grim, but he does have his limits. The art can get gruesome at times as well. This reinforces how brutal he is and just how powerful he can be. Like many of the other Valiant books, this one mixes genres at times. It is part espionage, part sci-fi, and part military thriller. These elements blend together nicely to introduce an interesting character. I'm looking forward to more of this character.

This wasn't it, chief.

Not a fan of the art-style and the narrative was messy to say the least. I understand that it was done with intention of making the narrator unreliable but the execution just left me bored and underwhelmed. Bloodshot's just a total milquetoast with no desirable personality and I can't tell if that was an intentional choice. I tried to give the man the benefit of the doubt since he was shot in the head A LOT but still, he was so friggin' dull. Don't think I will be returning to this series.
