Ramona Meisel is an artist, writer and mythology nerd living in Germany. She’s a strange human hybrid of mended bones and a soul ripped apart at the edges. Her tongue is sharp enough to cut and her mind keen enough to bleed. When she’s not haunting the net she’s perfectly content to lose time in prose and poetry.

i like how the description says 'the painful sequel' which makes u believe the first part wasn't painful which clearly should have made u realise that what this description rly means is: this part will somehow be even worse

Sunchoked is the sequel to Sunblind by talented Ramona, I hope it goes without saying that this is a very anticipated sequel! Like it's predecessor it is uniquely crafted, original, and with skillfully weaved in Greek myths in modern times. It takes place five years after the disastrous end of the relationship between Apollo and Icarus.

Right off we are treated to a look at Apollo and glimpse his growth through the last years through a series of unreplied texts to Icarus. It is heartwrenching to see (especially if you read Sunblind backward and got another subtle layer to what Apollo is like IMO). Icarus for his part is equally haunted though he drew lines back then.

As we come to follow the journey of both protagonists up to their inevitable recounter there is so much growth that is palpable through each piece. And once they come together you are waiting for the fall to happen once more but they are no longer the boys from five years ago. They have been broken and remade through their relationship with others, as well as with each other.

And despite their growth, the interactions between Icarus and Apollo is precarious at most times; a very fine balance between hope and tragedy. A lot of heartfelt passages resonate with anyone who has experienced a tumultuous relationship. Unlike Sunblind, however, the tragedy does not feel as inevitable and the ending (without spoilers!) is very appropriate and satisfying.

One of Ramona's strongest skills is the format of her writing, using physical positioning of words to cause a Lot Of Feels. That, along with the poignant lines, is a devastating combination, and the result is awe-inspiring.

Thank you Ramona for sharing your writing with us! Now I’m going to go wallow in feels, part 2.

The amazing continuation to Sunblind.
What do I have to say about this piece apart from "I loved it and I wish I could read it for the first time again"?
Not that much, but let's try: The printed copy (I really, really love them Ramona, and you for having gone through the trouble of making them. I will be eternaly grateful) arrived when I needed it most.
I've already said in my review of Sunblind that it calmed me down, but this one does wonders for both your mental state and your mood.
The story is soothing and sad at the same time, but gives you hope and insert here incoherent babbling because I lack the words to describe how I feel about it.
Just do yourself a favour and read it, okay?

[A hand slips down, curls around the one that clenches hard and peels the fingers open, one by one, softly, to hold on tight. Two hearts beat in unison, leading the world to rise in the morning. The sun kisses them for the rest of the day.]

That last line was killer. And my favorite was "A Playlist Found on an Old Phone, Called Tragedy," the epitome of beautiful modern poetic prose. This sequel has the same problems as the first, but it was still damn brilliant. It indeed felt more finished this way, yet still gave me cause for question. Gorgeous. Gorgeous.

2nd read in December 2020:
Not to be dramatic or anything but reading Ramona Meisel's books is the best thing that happened to me this year.

1st read in May 2020:
This is actually the sequel of Sunblind and once again, I loved it so much. I loved how Ramona Meisel pictured time passing through text messages, and how Apollo and Icarus meet again five years later and try to not make the same mistakes as the first time.

I really should write longer review because I feel I don't show enough how much I love Ramona Meisel's books but everytime I read them it's some kind of experience for me and I'm brought back to reality only once I finished them. I will reread these so many times so maybe I'll make more sense at this time.

I'm not even sure where to find words to explain this, not in any way that would feel less than what this deserves.
It is not often that I find myself moved as this, able to feel and live within the skin of those portrayed on the page.
I stopped reading an hour ago.
My throat still hurts, and I cannot speak. There's a haunting resonance there, which will speak to anyone who happens to have even a modicum of a soul housed in their bones.
This was beautiful.
I will read these boys front and back a thousand times over in the coming years, I have no doubt.
