What if the cure is worse than the disease?
CONSUME (Book 4 in the BUNKER 12 series) A tragic accident inside the long-abandoned tenth bunker has left Finn clinging to life, and his friends facing the possibility that the nanites injected into their bodies, the same nanites that decimated Humanity four years earlier, might not be enough to save him. And when a hated enemy offers help in finding the so-called source of the Flense and a promise to put an end to their misery, do they trust him? Or is it a ruse which will finally destroy them once and for all?
BUNKER 12 SERIES DESCRIPTION

The infected become soulless creatures known as Wraiths, which wreak destruction upon anyone and anything in their path.Secure inside ten isolated bunkers are the tattered remnants of Humanity. Each works tirelessly to unravel the mystery of the scourge. But the bunkers were never meant to protect forever. In fact, they were never meant to protect at all.
Saul is the specfic pen name of author Ken J. Howe, who writes in a variety of genres. He is a retired biotech entrepreneur with a PhD in molecular genetics and is a former combat medic.
I'm honestly not sure if the author just got tired of the series and decided to end it the way he did, or if there is actually going to be another book we just don't know about. The ending is not an ending, by any means, and now I'm just frustrated.
Finn should have just died. He was always the worst part of the books - Jonah has a far more interesting character arc, Eddie too - but Edgelord Finn is probably the worst character in the series. It was his quest to find his brother that starts the whole story, but I actually think it would have been more impactful if he’d died. He doesn’t do anything that Eddie wouldn’t have been able to.
There’s not very many fleshed out female characters at all besides Jennifer, Kari and *maybe* Kalleagh in this entire series - Jennifer spent the past two books screaming indiscriminately, and Kalleagh only comes into her own in this book for a few scenes at the beginning. Kari was great, but she doesn’t even get a proper death scene - she just vanishes between chapters, and after a while nobody mentions her again. Pretty sure this whole series does not pass the Bechdel Test in any meaningful way, which is a shame.
I also don’t understand why the ferals suddenly started coordinating attacks on all the towns, either. This wasn’t really explained, I thought it might have something to do with the cure because of the timing, but nobody even speculates on it.
Overall a 3.5/5 series, but this book did not impress. The ending just felt a bit weak.

Terrible. Did Saul just give up and decide to end it with NOTHING?! This book left too many unanswered questions from the entire series. And no, I don’t want to read the mini entries and prequels to get the story. It should have been included in the book itself. And that Bix character! God I would have shot that kid. Most of his dialogue was just noise that didn’t help the story at all. Very disappointing because I quite liked the first 3 books.
This is the fourth and final Book in the Bunker 12 Book Series The Flense
Okay I'm not sure what to make of this series I'm thinking that I need to read the prequel to understand what's actually happening in this series . Because I don't know what to make of that ending I guess it's suppose to be a shocking twist but to me it fell flat . I had an actual WTF moment and not in a good way this series has four volumes and two companion Book Series about the Flense . And nothing was explained at all not that I could follow and that ending was stupid what was that Aliens a being from a different dimension . And as far as the characters the only one I truly like was Eddie everyone else was annoying . Would I read the other series I highly doubt it .
He does it again. Saul Tanpepper gives us the conclusion to the Bunker 12 series. Will it end the way you hope? Probably not. Will your favorite character die? 50/50
You follow the characters on their final leg of the journey. There is a lot of anger and violence. Along with a sprinkle of compassion. I'm pretty sure when you read this, there'll be cursing from you too.
If you've read the Bunker 12 series, I recommend Saul's, the Flense series. It's where I'm headed next because it's final book should be out in March.
Amazing book! Officially finished reading the entire Bunker 12 series! The series is definitely an amazing dystopian type of work. To be honest, I definitely did not expect this book to end the way it does. For all that haven’t read the Bunker 12 series yet, I strongly recommend you to try it out! Another genius book series by Saul Tanpepper is the Gameland series, if anyone is interested. :)
Excellent conclusion to the series. I think I like this book the best, although it's a close call between this one and the first book. Having finished the series, I can now say that I thought some of the middle two books got a bit muddled. But in the end, all the characters are accounted for, one way or another, and all the plot elements are resolved. It's a satisfying ending that leaves the characters with hope for their future.
Note: for those who complained about the ending, you should have read the omnibus, instead. There are those 4 books, 4 more about a prequel and a lot of really short novels that explained some details that are missing in this series. And I'm pretty sure the author will write some more, as there is room for another new arc.
I was worried since book 3 was not my cup of tea, but book 4 did not disappoint. It flowed well & the while the little extra after story seemed slow, the ending was amazing. The end of book 4 was also good. Didn't leave you hanging, or feeling like you needed more, but also ended realistically....it wasn't all explained & perfect
Finn is hanging on to life because of the nanites but will he be the same Finn if he recovers? They continue the search for the cure especially after finding Seth's papers. Will they find it, will it work and what will be the cost in doing so? So much loss but a satisfying end to this great series.
Overall the book has plenty of tense moments...You get caught up with the characters so much so that I felt cheated at the lack of resolution for some of the lead ones...
A long but essentially satisfying final book. While not everyone survives - and the resolution to the final battle is perhaps a little too miraculous at the last moment we are left with hope for the future.
Amusingly (or not) the sample of the final Flense book mentions the coronavirus...
