I liked the fact there was a community of supernaturals, i think that could have been played on explained a little more.....
The community itself.... apart from her long lost family....
This girl as just lost her Aunt inherited her house and the Mayor want to throw a party there... (ok maybe a little understandable that she allows it if she thought her aunt would have wanted to carry on tradition but it seems she avoided these people like the plague) Then to have some complete stranger trying to rip up shrubbery from her house as it didn't suit the party... i would have called it quits then.
I know its a supernatural read but the human reactions and emotions were not believable....
Enter "Xandie Meyers" to her late aunt's inheritance. A beautiful romantic themed Victorian home on the tallest part of an outlook over the sea below. It has a rather peculiar history, a history her mother never talked about and her father forbid any contact with "those relatives" saying they caused her mother's death years ago. Xandie has fond memories of a few blissful visits with her aunt and snarky cat but never dreamed she could live here permanently. That is one of the conditions of the will, live in house and take care of a library within for 3 months. After that time she can sell and leave provided she finds a replacement to keep the library open. Meeting the town law enforcer while trying to break in, because doors won't open with her key, a fowl- tempered cat in a carrier delivered by the lawyer and quickly deposited on the front porch, a weird since of strangeness overcomes our heroine as she learns of the library and townspeople being different than first impressions' make this a wonderful beginning to a series. Cozy style with a snarky cat and owner, invasions of imps, murder of her lawyer and a persistent mayor and his sister with hidden lineages, stir the pot just enough to keep the reader simmering to turn the next page, This was a free book and I have no connection to anyone involved. Like this genre and the tempting taste of future episodes.
Point Muse seems like a quaint town, the final town of her memories whee Xandie came with her mother as a child to visit her great Aunt Sera. But Xandie's mum went missing with her just a little kid and her father bundled her away viewing never to return. Now Sera is dead and Xandie inherits everything. Her home, her cat....her library? Here starts an adventure with people dropping like flies around her, a talking cat and sentient library, not to mention people like to throw out their bloodlines asking with their name. Who is killing the people around Xandie,? Can she get a handle on her new family and finally can she convince the town she is a competent librarian? This is a really interesting book, i enjoyed the history aspect of it, there are clues and red herrings aplenty to the murderers identity but enough to keep you guessing Speckled with humour.....suicidal impose going out on lingerie parachutes plays over like movies in my overactive imagination to the tune of dambusters. brilliant. Well written. Recommend
Xandie has moved to Port Muse to take up her inheritance of her aunt’s house and the magical library inside it. She also gets Theo, the cat of the house who is more than a normal cat. Starting out by being caught trying to get into her new house and getting stuck in the window only to have the chief of police rescue her, this book has a lot of humour in it. But murders are piling up. An agent she was to meet with is found dead in mysterious circumstances, then fulfilling her aunt’s role of opening her house and property for an event, she literally falls over a dead body. But there are good things happening, she finds some family, aunts and cousins from her mother’s side. She also starts learning about magic and the supernatural especially after dealing with the library and her cat starts talking to her. Even with warnings from the chief, Xandie has to investigate what’s going on. This book has a nice mystery, fun characters and interactions, and a fair amount of humour. This is a really quick, fun, easy read.
Wonderful. Murders, a sentient library, demons, imps, and more paranormals then you can count. The characters are realistic and draw you through the read like a moth to a flame. With a heroine who is totally oblivious to the paranormal world she has stepped into and her naivety might just be the death of her. Going against her father was her first real act of rebellion. But she was here and now she had to take the reins that were handed to her as the Librarian. A world of paranormals, new family members, murders, a Sheriff that seems to have marked her as the number one suspect, a talking cat and a killer. Will she be able to make sense of who is friend or foe and the tasks that the Library wants her to undertake? Or will the killer get to her before that? Terrific action, fast moving and am looking forward to the next book.
Quirky cozy mystery series set in the fictional town of Point Muse, Maine. Xandie Meyers is a librarian and inherited her aunt's house after her mysterious Death. She soon finds out that there are more beings walk the Earth than humans. Not only has she inherited her aunts house, but Xandie is also the next librarian of the Great library of Alexandria. There's also a talking cat, Theo and he guides and assists her in her new role. When a Xandie is accused of murdering her lawyer , not only has she to prove her innocence, but also her suitability to be the next librarian. At the same time she is investigating her aunt's suspicious death. Great characters, supernatural and human ones, plenty of strange going on and not making herself popular with the locals... Can Xandie turn the tide?
Excellent start to a new series. The characters are interesting and funny, and there's plenty of snark to go around. Xandie finds a new family and new responsibilities when she inherits her great-aunt's house, and she has to fight to keep them both. I can't wait for the next one!
I received an advance copy of the book and this is my honest review.
Xandie inherits her aunt's husband library. A murder occurs, and she investigates it. Xandie is on a town filled with supernatural creatures. I like the eccentric characters and the plot. Danger and humor fill the book. I recommend this book. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
good story, starts off with a good misunderstanding. Then plots with in plots, some new friends/family, frenimes and underhanded "people trying to help, with her inhertiance but really trying to scam her. among several murders, learning she is a witch,.... a must read, currently trying to catch up with all the series.
Fun read. I found it a mash up of Percy Jackson and the tv show Once Upon a Time with a few Harry Potter elements thrown in for good measure. Simple. Not a lot of depth, but I don’t believe that was the intention. Typos and grammatical errors in some spots almost pulled my rating down to 2 stars. Does no one proofread books any longer? But I look forward to reading more in the series.
Wow! What an ending! I didn't see that coming!! I enjoy how this series has all aspects of the supernatural world in it, plus us humans. Its a refreshing and funny read so everyone should enjoy it. Ethan is an excellent writer with an incredible, interesting and intelligent mind to be able to think up these stories. Love😍😍
Cute, fun, quirky little story :) It even passed the initial meet-cute test. haha. A lot of these cozies sadly fail at that point, you know, the ones were the h goes all gaga, brainless idiot when meeting the H. Thankfully that didn't happen here...
could've used an editor though, lots of grammar errors. I lost count of the number of times I had to reread a sentence/ paragraph because of it
I loved this book! I did guess who the killer was, but that didn't lessen my enjoyment at all. The book was loads of fun, and I loved the cousins. I can't wait to see what they get up to next! Plus, the idea of the library is so intriguing. It makes me wish I had a magic library of my own (but not the people trying to kill me!)
Overall this was a good read, not as good as book #0 (The Pernicious Pixie & the Choked Word) but still enjoyable. Parts of this book flowed better than other parts, I was just expecting better since book #0 was so good. The characters where good though and the humor was nicely done. I was expecting some sort of romance/feelings to at least start no matter how small but nope.
I actually enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. I will say I can tell it’s just going to get better. So I will definitely be reading the next one. It took a while to form a connection with Xandie and I wish we got more details on the Chief. Still great characters and loads of great laughs and sass.
BWAHAHAHA! I love reading about Zandie and her crazy supernatural family! They are such fantastic fun! Such fun surprises await in this book! Just what the Library is. Theo. Imps. Demons. Knights Sanguis. And a whole slew of powerful relatives! Just friggin’ AWESOME!
I loved the crazy imagination the author put into this book. Wonderfully written with lots of unique characters that I'm looking forward to reading more about. I'm excited to read more from Kelly Ethan.
This was a fun read in a small town where both humans and paranormals live and work. The plot is straight forward, the inhabitants are both wacky and loving, and the characters each have their own form of fun weirdness. I most definitely recommend this book.
When I started the book I thought the main character was a young adult and consequently I thought her cousins were too. However they act and speak as if they were 14 or so. The talk about “sass”. More like immature kids thinking they’re clever. And wrinklies? Seriously? Ok the wrinkly juggling references were funny at first but constantly? A bit tiresome. The characters are definitely in need of some help
Fun, full of quirky characters including a talking cat. Loved the banter and the world building. Definitely mayhem ensued. Looking forward to book two.
Note: while I know the author, this doesn’t affect the star rating.
Such a fun read! As with all first books in a new series, I was trying to keep up with the characters and their relationship with the heroine. I do plan to continue the series. It was delightful.
An interesting read with many twists. A snark band of relatives to keep it interesting. And a group of paranormal the this all together for a great read.
This is a great book, I really enjoyed the adventure! I even enjoyed the prequel. Definitely a fun series and I must read them all now. Thank you for a great read!
