Lean In, Listen, and Let the Holy Spirit Guide You
Does God's voice feel far away or even silent?
Are you familiar with the Trinity but unsure who the Holy Spirit is or how He works?
Join Jenny Randle on a 31-day interactive journey to greater intimacy with God. It's filled with information and practices that will help you be mentored and guided by the Holy Spirit, listen to God speak to you in various ways, overcome obstacles to hearing His voice, and align what you are hearing with the truth of God's Word.
You may not hear a choir of angels or have a chat with a burning bush like Moses did, but you can learn to recognize and respond to God's voice in your everyday life. And when you do, your days will be filled with amazing new possibilities and purpose. You were made for this!
This was a nice book to have as a companion to reading Scripture verse. I would probably recommend to beginner readers of the Bible. It can be a helpful reference guidebook to finding spiritual solutions to everyday problems. I found this book easy to read but you must always have a bible at hand to look up scripture passages. This book was just okay for me, it was not what I was hoping to find with this type of book. I do recommend that others may really enjoy this book and might want to give it a try.
Thank you to the publisher "Harvest House Publishers" and Net galley for the opportunity to read this book and all thoughts and opinions expressed are unbiased and mine alone!
This is a good 31 day exploration of how God speaks to us. Randle helps us recognize the various ways God speaks, how to identify and overcome barriers to hearing and obeying God, and how we can respond to what God is telling us. I like the interactive nature of the book with places for readers to respond.
Randle shares many of her own experiences to illustrate her teaching. She has incorporated a lesson and a challenge in each of the daily readings, as well as practices for us to complete. I like that she encourages us to have a buddy with whom we can interact as we work through the book. I like that she reminds us recognizing and correctly following God's voice is a process and we will probably make mistakes along the way. I like her extra suggestions at the end of the book, such as when we really missed it or when God seems silent.
Randle believes all the gifts of the Holy Spirit are available to us today. She believes in miracles and spiritual warfare. Her book may be more appreciated by Charismatic Christians but should not be ignored by any Christian.
This is a good book for new Christians as it includes good teaching and exercises on hearing from God. Seasoned Christians may not find anything new in this book but it would serve as a good refresher course.
I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.
GETTING TO KNOW GOD’S VOICE was sent to me by Net Galley, free of charge, in exchange for my honest review. Published by Harvest House Publishers, GETTING TO KNOW GOD’S VOICE – A 31 DAY INTERACTIVE JOURNEY, is the work by talented writer, Jenny Randle. This is Christian non-fiction devotional for discovering the HOLY SPIRIT in your everyday life. Jenny Randle writes that THERE ARE TIMES WE WORSHIP THE GIFTS MORE THAN THE GIFT-GIVER. I so like that, because that is so true! Don’t we sometimes DO so much…even good things, that we forget about the person who is supposed to be guiding us to do them? I like the way this author says her relationship with the Holy Spirit is so personal that she dropped the THE before His name. She says that she wants this book to be a 31 day journey that strengthens your faith and equips you to live a Spirit-led life. That she wants us to see that HOLY SPIRIT isn’t just a one time gift, but also a relationship that we GET to participate in. Before you begin reading, there is a commitment page to fill out to help you give yourself accountability in your journey. Each of the 31 days is divided into four parts. They begin with a short lesson and concludes with a HEARING AID. HEARING AID is a challenge to get you to use what you’ve learned. You have SIMPLE PRAYERS, and, in some lessons, JOURNAL PROMPTS to make you think and reflect on what the lesson taught. In the Table of Contents, you will find a check box, where you can check off when you’ve completed each chapter. Also included throughout are Fun Facts, like one that admonishes us to read Titus 3, where Paul wrote about how everything changes through the work of the Holy Spirit. This book is well written, and easy to follow, in my opinion. I also like that the author refers to a lot of Scripture and many quotes throughout. She also uses a lot of highlighting, and even doodles when she wants to grab your attention. I do recommend it, if you’d like to study how to become closer to the Holy Spirit. This 31 day devotional is about developing practices to grow in hearing God speak. I love to read about hearing the voice of God and I’m passionate about this topic. I think my favorite quote from the whole book, and it’s one that offers a great summary, is this: “The problem wasn’t that Adam and Eve ate some fruit but that they responded to the wrong voice, and that separated them from God.” This is exactly the lifelong challenge we face. I want to listen to and obey the voice of God no matter what.
“The ability to hear God...is developed by listening to God in daily disciplines of silence, prayer, studying and meditating on His word, and worship.” The author gives many practical ideas for actions you can take to be disciplined, suggestions for stepping out in faith, as well as reflection questions to plumb the depths of your heart. The author writes in a casual voice and feels like a friend next door. She shares some interesting stories to encourage us that we are all learning to do this thing as we go. There are no experts. It’s important that we try new things, step out in faith, cooperate with what God might be prompting us to do (checked against the word of God) and we learn. Growth comes from practicing faith in action. Yes to this!: “The world is saying, ‘Look at me!’, but you’re rising up and saying, ‘Look at Christ!’”
Included throughout the book are some great quotes from other authors. I loved this quote from David Platt. “The church I lead could have the least gifted, the least talented people, the fewest leaders, and the least money, and this church under the power of the Holy Spirit could still shake the nations for his glory.”
This is a great introduction to developing practices for hearing God’s voice. It will take time sitting with God, talking to Him.honestly, and listening for His response. There is nothing more exciting and more worthwhile. If you have never tried talking and listening to God, start today.
I received an arc copy from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest opinion.

3 stars=Good/solid/fine 31 day journey broken into 3 "acts" designed to help the reader discern the voice of God and the move or prompting of the Holy Spirit. The first act helps the reader get into the proper position and mindset to hear from God, including salvation. It also outlines ways God speaks. The next two sections dig into potential obstacles and digs deeper into the topic.
Each day includes a teaching section, a challenge to undertake or way to respond to the material, a prayer and a journaling prompt. Sometimes the response is to dig into a passage of scripture. In those cases, the journaling prompts follow a study pattern readers could apply to their study outside of this book. The tone of the writing is conversational, like meeting a mentor for coffee. The perspective on the Holy Spirit leans towards the charismatic.
There were a couple hiccups for me with this - personal preference issues. The tone was occasionally flippant or abrasive which was jarring. Also, the author has chosen to use "Holy Spirit" as a proper name, so 90% of the references are not to "THE Holy Spirit" but just "Holy Spirit" like you would use Jesus or God in a sentence. I get what she is going for and why she made that stylistic choice, but for me it was a distraction every time it happened. Finally, she chose to call her daily responses "hearing aids." This is a clever play on words, but it wasn't a reference I cared for. Again, these are personal preference issues.
I also read Discerning the Voice of God by Priscilla Shirer this year, and that was a better fit for me. The layouts are significantly different. This has a devotional layout where the Shirer book is nonfiction prose. Readers who prefer the devotional layout might give this a try.
A Gentle, Powerful Invitation to Hear God More Clearly
At the beginning of this year (2025), I started reading Jenny’s book after it sat on my book shelf for more than a year; I felt invited into an intimate, interactive journey of learning how to hear and discern the voice of God. Rooted in Scripture and personal reflection, this book stands out not just as a devotional, but as a practical guide for cultivating spiritual attentiveness in an increasingly noisy world.
What makes this book deeply impactful is how accessible and relatable it is. Each day combines Scripture, teaching, journaling prompts, and quiet space, encouraging readers to slow down and genuinely seek God’s presence. Jenny doesn’t just tell you to listen for God, she walks with you, showing you how to quiet the noise, posture your heart, and grow in confidence in how God speaks personally and consistently.
Personally, this book has encouraged me to keep reading the Word, sit in silence, and listen for God’s voice, practices that are often lost in the busyness of modern life. In a time when distractions are everywhere, this journey reminded me of the importance of anchoring my day in heavenly perspective. The wisdom nuggets and gentle encouragement throughout offer deep nourishment for the soul.
Randle’s voice is honest, humble, and Spirit-led—ideal for both new believers and seasoned Christians who want to deepen their relationship with God.
Final takeaway: I highly recommend this book to all my family and friends. It’s more than a devotional, it’s a doorway into deeper communion with God. Expect clarity, encouragement, and a quiet transformation as you journey through each day. A timely gift for anyone longing to recognize and respond to God’s voice in everyday life. 🫶🏽
Getting to Know God's Voice is a practical, scripture-rooted book about hearing God's voice. The book is written as a 31-day experience with challenges and journal prompts for each day.
I enjoyed this read for a great many reasons: - the stories all seemed quite miraculous and strong - heavy basis in scripture - practical things to do in order to think about hearing God or allow for hearing God - full of encouragement and affirmation to continue the process - well-written, with plenty of conviction to boot!
I have to wonder if this would have gotten the full five stars if I had taken the 31 days and journaled and such, allowing the wisdom in this book to marinate in my soul. I did spend a good deal of time reflecting and praying while reading this book, but I wanted to be able to put out a timely review, so I read through the book in significantly less time than was recommended. That being said, I did make notes of exercises and prompts I'd like to return to in the future. Additionally, I think the fact that I got so much out of this despite my reading pace is a testament to the value of the book.
Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening” (1 Samuel 3:10 New American Standard Version). Are you like Samuel listening to hear God’s words? Jenny Randle’s "Getting to Know God’s Voice" is an excellent resource on hearing God articulate through the Holy Spirit. Carefully and thoughtfully crafted, Jenny, your trusted friend, guide, and mentor, leads you on a 31-day interactive journey. The study is scripturally, spiritually, and theologically sound. Jenny’s writing is conversational. She shares her personal path for getting to know God’s voice. Each of the 31 days is a stand-alone lesson and includes a simple prayer. Each message has challenging hearing aids like finding a few minutes to pursue quietness before the Lord or calling a friend or family member just to say hello. The sessions include journaling prompts. What could be more challenging and fun? I recently completed Priscilla Shirer’s "Discerning the Voice of God." Jenny Randle’s "Getting to Know God’s Voice" is a perfect selection for my library. How I desire to recognize when God speaks. I cherished Jenny’s book, Courageous Creative. Join me in saying, “Speak, for Your servant is listening.”
I haven't finished reading all of this book, but already am gleaning insightful nuggets. Author, Jenny Randle, wrote this book in a way that encourages you to draw close to God and allow the Holy Spirit to work in your life. It is a devotional type book that leads you on a 31 day journey with the Holy Spirit. It's an easy read that delves into Scripture to help you recognize how the Holy Spirit speaks to you allowing you to live a Spirit-led life. The 'Hearing Aid' section at the end of each chapter helps to challenge you by putting into practice what was discussed.
A quote that I loved from the book - 'Remember, this joy the Bible speaks of is the fruit of Holy Spirit. It's easy to be distracted from God's voice. It takes discipline to be fruitful. Be intentional about maintaining a sense of expectancy by studying the Word and abiding in Christ.'
First, I know - Revelationary is not a word. It is now. Because in the EAL and personal way that Jenny writes this book, it is full of Revelation for your walk as a Christian. She is RELATABLE and causes us to RELATE to the Word, Holy Spirit and the work being done in us in a Revelationary way. Christians need to read this book because it's a real and relatable daily journey to revolutionize our lives. Seriously, if you do the daily challenges and journaling, you will be a different Christ follower in 31 days. You will gain new insight about Holy Spirit and the power unleashed in us His dwelling and filling. You will want to share and deepen the lives around you with this book. That makes it REVELATIONARY!
Getting to Know God's Voice is a book for everyone who needs to hear from The Holy Spirit. This year has been a very tough one for all but for some it has been the toughest year ever, myself included. "Sometimes when I pray through a situation and wait for Holy Spirit's still, small voice, I feel as if God is voiceless. Have you ever felt that way?" is a quote from the book and this book provides you with both biblical and practical ways to stop, listen and hear the voice of God. I had the privilege of reading this before the release date in the digital form and I honestly cannot wait to receive my hard copy so I can write, highlight and make notes in it. I recommend it and give it a five star review.
I recently received my copy of Getting to Know God’s Voice by Jenny Randle. In quickly overviewing this book I am drawn in by the easy to understand discussion of pressing into God in order to hear His voice. Jenny does a great job of balancing thought provoking teaching with humor and practical application. I love that as she examines hurdles to one’s ability to hear from God, she does so as an experienced coach, encouraging the reader who may have felt sidelined to stand up and reengage. And yet, she is still able to challenge the reader who’s remained in the process to further tune their spiritual ears to God’s voice. I really look forward to taking time in the weeks ahead to dive into this book and complete the “hearing aid” challenges presented at the end of each chapter.
This is the book I truly needed at this time in my life!! Jenny takes the reader on a 31 day interactive journey to guide them on a deeper relationship with Holy Spirit and how to walk with Him daily. This book is a tool that men and women can use, gain understanding and learn about a whole different side of their faith walk. She said at the beginning of the book, “When you get to know God’s voice, everything changes.” If you are ready for this journey, grab this book and get ready! I recommend this to every man and woman who is ready to dig deep, grow more and be stretched further than you have been before.
I'm really enjoying this cool 31-day interactive journey of discovering more of the Holy Spirit in our everyday life. The message of Getting to Know God’s Voice is filled with encouragement, truth, and practical ways to get to know God's voice. Experiencing more of God in our everyday moments accelerates as we learn to listen to God and engage with the Holy Spirit more fully. Love Jenny's fun style that is approachable and engaging without compromising depth and truth. I also appreciate the variety of ways to practice concepts in the book. This is my favorite kind of book--where the spiritual meets the practical and the result is going deeper with God!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I am a huge fan of this interactive format! The chapters are short, digestible and fun to read thanks to Jenny's engaging style. The "hearing aids" at the end of each chapter are helpful, challenging, and a wonderful way to begin practicing the skill of tuning in to God's voice and responding as Holy Spirit moves in our daily lives. This book is the ideal mix of teaching and practical application. What an incredible resource for anyone who wants to grow closer to and walk more closely with the Lord!
What a treasure this book has been for me during this tough season to learn how to lean in and listen to Holy Spirit as He ministers to me and through me. I believe this book is not only timely, but pertinent for Christians during a season when we need to hear His voice and leading the most above all the noise. The practical steps and ideas will stick with me as I learn to walk in step with Him more each day. This book is such a special treasure that I will refer back to many times. Thank you, Jenny Randle!
The format is easy to read and to work through. The chapters are short, and each ends with a journal prompt and "hearing aids." The "hearing aids" are so helpful. I'm only on the third chapter right now, and so far these aids are helping me to grow in discernment. Oftentimes life isn't straightforward, situations and relationships are complex and sometimes confusing. I'm excited to continue reading through the book and learning more about how to hear God's voice.
I received an ARC from Harvest House Publishers, via NetGalley. This review is my personal opinion.
What I like about this devotional is although it has a main theme, each day has a different topic. With fresh, honest, and candid writing Jen Randle opens what means to hear God’s voice with practical advice I like that this book gives you the answer we ask many times: How do we know it came from God?. Great book I recommend it!
Getting To Know God’s Voice is a wonderfully structured devotional written in a clear and friendly voice. Randle writes insightfully and delightfully as she encourages us to consider God and draw closer to him. She writes as someone so genuinely devoted to God and leads us through her writing, never patronising, always loving, always Biblically sound.
The book is written as a 31-day experience with challenges and journal prompts for each day. The goal is to listen and stay mindful. In silence wait for answers.
Jenny Randle is amazing! This book is a beautiful resource for teaching us to discern God’s voice. I recommend this book to anyone yearning for God, and those who want to strengthen their relationship with Him.
Thanks for the advanced copy. The writing style of this is well laid out and is beautifully written. I am going to go back and take 31 days to work through this and do some proper journal work, I think I will truly appreciate it then.
Very much enjoyed this study and the interactivity. This title will remain within my faith resources. Not only would I work thru this title again, but will definitely recommend and gift to others.
Thank you Jenny Randle, the publishers and NetGalley for providing me with a free advance digital copy of this book to review. I enjoyed and benefitted so much from it’s pages that I’ve since pre-ordered my own physical copy.
In this book, Jenny provides intensely practical tips, steeped in experience and Biblical truth, to help us to hear God’s voice, to grow in relationship with the Holy Spirit and walk in Jesus’ footsteps.
A thirty-one-day guided study to better know and hear God’s voice. It is interactive and meant to help guide and train your heart and mind to listen and receive from God. It is a simple and easy to follow format, yet powerful teaching and guidance. It is challenging and thought provoking in a way that stimulates growth. It is best to take the full thirty-one days and take your time as you digest the truths and lessons you will work through. I can see this being a great book to do as a Bible study with like-minded people. I received a complimentary copy from the publisher via NetGalley and all opinions expressed are my own and freely given.
