This one was fun! I will say that this may be the beginning of a new series, but I felt like I was missing so much to the hero's backstory. He kept on bringing up this traumatic experience with his sister and stepbrother that I felt like we should have known beforehand, and I think that all happened in the sister's book in the other series. So I wish I had known that full story before going into this, or that the hero didn't keep on bringing it up like I should have known about it.

The beginning of this was good, but it was definitely insta love. The suspense was pretty good. I did enjoy how part of it was in the mountains and the hero had to rescue the heroine at one point. Nothing was super special about the story or the romance, but it wasn't a bad read. I'm not sure if I'll continue the series, but I am interested in picking up more books from this author.

It is no secret to anyone who reads my reviews that I think this author is pretty darn good. She understands emotions and isn't afraid to have her characters be emotional about the people and things they care about the most.

I would love to say this is a romance, but this particular book is a lot more. First, it is a spin-off from Ms. Eddy's "Away From the Keyboard" series and features Major General Pritchard, Commander of JSOC. Or at least, that was his title when we last saw him in Trevor and Dani's story, Call Sign Redemption. Now, life has changed for Major General Pritchard, "Stars and Bars", and he is at loose ends. This was the first taste of the emotion in this book - a man who commanded JSOC (Joint Special Operations Command) at loose ends? The tone of the story starts there. The arc of the story grows from this point.

In the mix of emotions in this book, you'll find an extremely rare and almost extinct orchid and the Doctor Mikayla Salim who is researching and sampling this orchid along with her graduate students. And action. I'm not talking about someone running from a bad guy, I'm talking about some gut wrenching action. I always have trouble when there is violence against a woman in this book, but in this case it wasn't overdone, it was perfect. Dr. Salim poses a threat to the men I'll refer to as bad guys (since I don't want to describe them - that's what reading the book is for).

In this book, Ms. Eddy once again proved that she can stay on point and take the arc of the story to exactly where it needs to be. As she writes, suspense builds. I found myself unable to figure out who the bad guys were (the sign of a good book is when the reader has to read to discover the good stuff).

This book kept my attention for a lot of reasons, but I think the most important was that it was a good blend of action and information, dialogue and narrative, and most of all, emotion. And that's why we read. Without emotion, deep, heartfelt emotion, books are boring. This is one book that I did not find boring at all.

This is the first book in a new series called Gone Rogue. I've already pre-ordered the second in the series as I am curious to see if the author grabs onto the heightened emotions and action that this book contained. Thank you Ms. Eddy for a very interesting story.

DNF at 26%. The heroine is being stupid. She is a PhD, running experiments. However, she is making a dumb choice right now and I can't read this.

She has decided to hike alone because she cannot wait to see how her plants are doing.

One, hiking alone is not recommended. Two, hiking alone in a foreign country is definitely not recommended. Three, hiking alone in a foreign country when you have life endangering asthma is highly not recommended. Four, hiking alone in a foreign country when you have life endangering asthma and it begins to storm is plain stupid. Five, doing all of these things while there is a storm and crossing a river that might flood is absolutely Idiotic and potentially suicidal.

I have a feeling the author wanted to set her up to need to be rescued by the hero. I just cannot stand reading this.

Update after Audiobook:

It's been over a year since I read this book, and revisiting its suspense and delicate romance via audiobook made an otherwise dreary day of chores actually rather enjoyable.

Sebastian York and Lidia Dornet were absolutely brilliant in bringing Austin and Mikayla to life. As in the other books where I've heard his work, York was able to hit that growly protector vibe in every breath, and Dornet carried Mik's confident yet reserved - and later, flirtatious - nature so well. From their first meeting, to their slowly budding romance and eventual jungle rescue, I was completely enraptured by the story once again.

I highly recommend giving this a listen if you enjoy romantic suspense.

Original Review:

My favorite part about picking up a Patricia D Eddy book is knowing that I'm going to be lost in its story within the first couple of pages. The action will pick up almost immediately and the world around me will cease to exist (that is, until you hear "Mooooommyyyyy" break your stride).

Rogue Protector - the first in an offshoot from the Away From Keyboard series - stayed true to its origins with fierce heroes, sassy counterparts and an inevitable rabbit hole of trouble. It tells the story of the former Major General Austin Pritchard as he attempts to learn who and what he's left with after retiring from military life. Thinking that he may find the answers in nature, he heads to Mexico to hike the trails and instead finds himself captivated by the lovely Dr. Mikayla Salim, who happens to be there researching a rare plant that she hopes can help in the fight against Parkinson's disease. Little do either of them realize that her research will land them both in the crosshairs of corruption, where Austin must once again become the man he knows best in order to protect the woman he's falling for.

I absolutely adored Mikayla. As the daughter of Syrian parents who moved to the United States before she was born, Mik was able to avoid the harsh realities of living in a war-torn country. Despite that, knowing that Austin had seen and experienced far more horrors than she could ever imagine, she didn't shy away from the demons she knew he had buried deep within the surface. Austin, too, was an admirable hero, whose biggest fault was seeking perceived flaws in himself. Past mistakes, misplaced intentions and the horrors of his time spent knee-deep in war haunted him, but Mikayla worked to help him see past the man he kept seeing in the mirror.

This was every bit as enjoyable and binge-worthy as any of the books in the Away From Keyboard series, and I loved, loved, loved the glimpses we caught of Ryker, Wren, Dax and the rest of the family we've become so familiar with. While I received a free advanced copy from the author in exchange for an honest review, this book has already been on preorder since the moment it became available. I would absolutely recommend the book (and the origin series) to anyone who loves romance, suspense and fierce, addictive characters.

There is a heaviness to Austin that is evident from the first sentence, and there is a sense of foreboding – of something lurking – in every page as we meet both him and Mik. Researching an orchid is a new storyline, but its purpose is pertinent. There is much to engage the reader’s interest from the start, but the story gets increasingly gripping and the suspense builds and builds. There are some links to the AFK characters (Dani is Austin’s sister), but this story will stand alone if you’re not familiar with those books. Nothing in this story is obvious, from the good guys to the bad guys, from the events you anticipate to those you read, and I don’t recommend starting this late at night as you won’t really want to pause it. Patricia Eddy has again created characters that become real people, that come off the page and into your life, and, again, this is a book that will stay with you long after you think you’re finished with it.

I received a free copy of this book. This review was posted voluntarily.

Austin Pritchard forced into retirement after going awol to help his sister and save his best friend in the previous book when they find themselves in a battle. Now that he isn’t part of the military anymore he is having a hard tome figuring out what to do with his life now and the demons that haunt his head from the things he has seen/done, is making it difficult for him to find peace. He sets off to hike some trails in Mexico trying to get his head right, but what he doesn’t expect is finding Mikayla. Mikayla is a botanist studying a rare plant in Mexico, she works hard and is blown away when she stumbles upon Austin this handsome man she has an instant attraction to. There is a lot of action especially when Austin has to help save Mik’s life and he is falling fast and hard for this woman. I loved that we got to see Austin reaching out to Second Sights and Hidden Agenda asking for help when he doesn’t feel like he is worthy of these guys they make sure to constantly let him know he is part of their family. Austin will probably always have nightmares but I was happy to Mikayla helps keep them at bay and that he is slowly starting to come around and fix things between himself and Trevor. Another great read, a perfect start to a new series, and I can’t wait to read Griffin’s story.

I have never read an author who honestly can put emotions down so beautifully into words until I found Patricia D. Eddy. And once again she did not disappoint. The reader first met Austin in a series that came before but it is not until this book that we actually understand and can feel just how important family is to him. Everything that he had achieved and everything that had been taken away from him makes him exactly who he is. Mix in the heart stopping plot with Dr. Mik and you not only have the emotions but the action as well. This book had the perfect combination!! Every reader will fall in love with Austin and will not be able to put the book down until we get the answers that Dr. Mik needs. I cannot wait for more in the series. 5 Stars are not enough!!

Dropped - 2.5 Stars - Chapter 12 & End

I don't like that the mc's sister & husband try to force their own wants/needs/expectations onto him concerning the past & healing/moving forward.

Dumb:

- Most people do know that just because you're a Muslim that does not automatically make you a terrorist. (This reflected poorly upon the mfc and her reading of the mc.)

- The female research student randomly accused the mc of harming the mfc. (Not a single shred of evidence.)

- The mfc did not manage her own health/asthma better even when it was affecting her life/job. (It alerted then prevented her escape from the bad guys.)

- The mc giving out his personal info while ignoring warning bells. (He obviously didn't learn from past experience, and it's a good thing he did retire.)

- Ofc mfc mentions poachers but leaves out the important part that her grad student betrayed her.

- Between honor and hypothermia/death, saving her life was way more important. (She's not even a virgin or a practicing Muslim.)

- Mfc deliberately withheld important truth/information about Corey then expected the mc to bare his heart. (Their lives are in danger, and she nearly died. They still might.)

Utterly ridiculous! I'm done & out.

1 Star - Skimmed from Chapter 12 to End

I about lost it when the mfc, a botanist, seemed to have never heard of Arnica (a PLANT). Unbelievably, she continues to act like a bloody saint in regards to anything Corey related. She then acts scandalized when the mc carries a gun (CARTEL, she was thrown off a cliff, students attacked/kidnapped). This chick went from naive/sheltered to flat out delusional. I just can't stand dumb smart characters and independent helpless women. Sadly, she's both.

How this book got such high ratings is just insane to me. I just expect common sense, behavior/personalities to match character profiles (age, education, background, job/career, ect...), and things to happen/flow naturally like they would most of the time in real life. Is that really too much to ask for?

5 stars!! I really adored Austin and Mik, and their romance was perfection! I liked how they met organically and enjoyed watching them learn more about the other's career. Mik is a fun character and a great contradiction of strong yet vulnerable. She is a great character who is no one but herself and stands up for her beliefs. Austin has demons in his past, but it was so refreshing to see him really fall for Mik and start to let all of the shadows go. The suspense angle was weaved into the story seamlessly and kept me on my toes! I so enjoyed watching the romance continue to grow, and I appreciated that they acknowledged and dismissed how fast things were moving with them. The characters both seemed to grow throughout the story, and I loved every minute of it. Can't wait for more in this series!

Overall Grade: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ 1/2

“This woman sees all of my broken pieces, all my pain, and she doesn’t brush it away.”

One of my favorite parts about reading romance is the breadth of options for readers. I’m a fairly easy romance reader in that I’ll read just about anything, save for PNR (paranormal). I won’t ever judge it because I know there are so many romance readers who love it; it’s just not one of my interests. Maybe someday that will change. Anyways, Patricia D. Eddy is my go-to read for military romance/romantic suspense. Finding her Away from Keyboard series was one of the best discoveries in romance. The broken hero coupled with the tenacious, stalwart heroine is like discovering one of the best desserts ever. For me, the message about brokenness and allowing love to seal up personal fractures resounds over and over again in Eddy’s books. She does an amazing job of keeping that message fresh as it’s interwoven into different stories. Even though you find it in many of her books in this series, and her newest spin-off series, the Gone Rogue series, it impacts you the same, time and time again. Rogue Protector, book 1 in this new series, offers more of this message coupled with a driving romance, an exacting plot, and an additional message about the saving grace of family. All of these parts conspire to grab you and keep you suspended in Eddy’s Rogue Protector.

This book follows Austin Pritchard. We meet him in Ripper and Trevor’s stories. Struggling with retirement and the dangers of his past two missions, Austin seeks solace in a journey on the Maya Trail in Mexico. While there, he encounters Mikayla “Mik,” an intelligent botanist conducting experiments on an orchid in a bid to help cure Parkinson’s disease. Austin and Mik meet in the bar of their shared hotel, and their interest and chemistry instantly ignite. Unfortunately, orchid poachers threaten and endanger Mik’s life, and Austin must save her from potential death. Will Austin and Mik find their happy ending? Will he be able to protect her from the people seeking to harm her? Will her research bring possible change?

Read this book. Rogue Protector is an edge-of-your-seat, insta-love, steamy story. Eddy has integrated so many important and interesting aspects into this story that it makes for a read that grabs you and keeps you engaged until the final page:

*Together, Austin and Mik are combustible. However, this isn’t Eddy’s typical steam. This is a relationship that is respectful and careful. One of the reasons is Mik’s cultural heritage. While she is not a practicing Muslim, she respects its place in her life, namely as her parent’s belief system. Austin, always the “good guy,” shows an immense amount of respect for this. There are messages about consent and acknowledging one’s cultural background tinctured throughout this story.

*The plot itself is suspenseful. While I did figure out the entity threatening Mik, it wasn’t until much later in the story, and I was compelled to keep reading to affirm my belief.

*The Ideas of brokenness and family are huge touchpoints in Eddy’s military romance, and those messages are important. As we encounter a few of the characters from the Away from Keyboard series, they speak of Austin and Mik’s place in their family, and the group’s need to protect their own. For anyone who might feel isolated, this is a worthy message in romance.

If I had any criticism for this story, it would be the insta-love between Austin and Mikayla. That’s more of a personal preference, however. It never turns me off to a story; it simply affects my believability for their coupling. That being said, Eddy speaks to it within the story, so that it does feel more organic than most romances.

I will always read Patricia D. Eddy’s military romances. Her pacing, her plot devices, and her characterizations pull you into her storytelling. Her newest book, Rogue Protector, is no different. If you loved the Away from Keyboard series, then you will LOVE Austin and Mikayla’s story too.

Rogue Protector
A Gone Rogue Romantic Suspense Standalone
By Patricia D. Eddy
Narrated by: Sebastian York, Lidia Dornet
Series Gone Rogue #1

Patricia D. Eddy is a gifted author and a master at romantic suspense. I knew as soon as I started this book I was going to love it, the story grabbed my attention right from the start and captivated it the entire book. This is the type of book once you start you can not stop because you need to know what happens next. The characters are realistic, easy to relate to and connect with. The two lead characters are complex and it was great to get to know them better, it was easy to fall in love with both. Former Major General Austin Pritchard is struggling to adjust to civilian life, he served in the USAF for over two decades, lived and breathed missions most of that time. He decided he needed to fall off the grid and spend some time thinking about what is next or maybe to stop thinking about what was in his past, or at least come to grips with it. He chose to go to Mexico and hike the Maya trail. One night in the hotel bar he meets Mikayla “Mik” Salim, the two hit it off and start to get know each other. Mikayla, a doctor is on a research assignment studying an endangered orchid that grows up in the mountains. This rare orchid has medicinal qualities and may be ingredient needed to create a cure for Parkinson’s Disease. She is there with three of her graduate students. They were noticing inconsistencies on some of the plants and when Mik went back to check she ran into trouble. Austin was supposed to meet Mik that night but she was a no show, he then heard her team talking and knew she was in trouble and if anyone could help it was be him. I loved how everything plays out in this book, the story is cleverly plotted with plenty of drama, action, twists and turns, betrayals, thrilling suspense, heartfelt and emotional moments and a great opposites attract romance. I thought these two were perfect together and or each other, they made a great team too. Patricia D. Eddy, thank you for this fantastic story, it took me to the edge of my seat at times and an emotional rollercoaster ride too, I love how you always find the perfect balance of romance and suspense in your books.

🎧📚🎧 I listened to the audiobook edition, Sebastian York and Lidia Dornet are fabulously talented narrators and voice artists. They bring these characters to life, giving each their own distinct voice and personality. Their portrayal of the characters is spot on, sounding just as I picture them to sound, capturing all of their emotions and projecting them into their performance. They are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another great listen.

Loved it. Loved it. Loved it. This book had a bit more to the thriller plot than other books that I had been reading in the genre. Most of the books focused on the romance which is good but at the same time treated the thriller portion of the book like an afterthought. At least in this book, the thriller plot had a bit more stage to play and it did proceed along with the romance track rather than being left alone in the beginning and then suddenly calling back at the end. Having said that I will also say that the way the other aspects of the plots excluding the romance was tied in the end, was a bit too hastily and kind of conveniently. I did wish that there could be a bit more exploration towards the thriller aspect of the plot but since the romance aspect was so good I will happily accept everything in the book as it is the way it is now.

I guess the book is a branch of another series from the author and I only realised it after I had finished reading the book. But I didn't feel that I missed out on anything much because there were enough breadcrumbs in the book to catch up on anything that was being brought from the previous series. Whatever was required to learn and understand this book was all in there so I was happy to indulge in it without any knowledge of previous ones.

While the Insta love and the intensity with which it escalates can be a bit scary when compared to real life the way the book treats it is so adorable and charming. There is a line that our female character keeps repeating throughout the book ..more along the lines of ..You are too good to be real and I too was saying the same .... the guy was too perfect 🫠. The romance was clean and cute and with the added protector vibes, it just was amazingly swoon-worthy.

In conclusion, I would say that if you are looking for a romantic thriller that has a somewhat equal portion of romance and equal thriller then this would be a good pick. Again focus on somewhat because the book too has more inclination towards romance but it doesn't lose on the thriller track so that is definitely a good thing about the book.

Grab a comfy chair, a cool glass of water by your side and hold on as this author takes us on another ride filled with emotions, intensity and suspense. We know Austin Pritchard, the man who came to Ripper’s defence and saved his “brother” Trevor and sister Dani in the last book. That last off books mission cost him his career and he went into early retirement. Now he’s lost in the civilian world, avoiding his family and friends and decides to head to Mexico to hike the Maya trail and “find” himself. What he doesn’t expect is to meet Dr Mikayla Salem aka Mik in the hotel bar they are both staying at. She’s there to collect and study a rare orchid only found in the mountains of Mexico that could help fight Parkinson’s. The two hit it off spectacularly and plan to have another tomorrow but when Mik the next day stumbles upon poachers trying to steal the orchids in the mountains, she may not have another tomorrow unless Austin can find her.
Oh boy this author has a way to pull out all the feels in her stories from the first page to the last. An amazing read with sparks, steam, suspense, some action and amazing characters. These two were amazing together and I couldn’t get enough of them. The attraction, the honesty, the openness, the respect, the tenderness, the protectiveness....sighing from when they first met till the end. Mik was a strong female character, smart and funny, didn’t play games and accepted Austin for who he was and is with open arms. Austin may have been lost but found himself and so much more with Mik. I LOVED seeing some of the past characters form the Keyboard series and Wren with Ryker always puts a smile on my face.

Patricia D Eddy and romantic suspense go hand in hand. Her new spin off to her Away From the Keyboard series has started off with a bang! Meet Austin Pritchard, ex military. He is in Mexico after being discharged and needs to figure out who he will be as a civilian. Meeting Mikayla was not in his plans. She is in Mexico leading a study of plants significant to the medical field. Sparks fly and the two are cozy. That is until danger lurks around her. Now in trouble, she is in need of help and Austin is on his way. Twists and turns in this story kept me on edge. Not only is the story have romantic flare, but Eddy keeps us engaged in an action packed story line. And just when you think you know what is going to happen, another wrench is thrown in. I love how several of the AFK characters are woven in and their personalities bringing a smile to my face. This is another fantastic listen, and I can't wait for book 2 to come out!

Narrated by Sebastian York and Lidia Dornet, the story is a treat for your ears. York is perfect as Austin. His voice fits the character, a little older and makes the soldier seem strong. He knows how to hit the emotions and even with a strong character like Austin, he gives him a sense of fear and vulnerability. Dornet is wonderful as Mik! She has an innocence to her voice, yet a maturity that lets us know she is no wilting flower. She is confident and will do whatever it takes to save her flower in one breath and love Austin in the next. A fabulous team to enjoy!

Anyone who has read any of the Away from the keyboard series by this talented author knows that Patricia grabs you from almost the very first page Her alpha male and females heroes are not only kick arse but they are also broken and damaged and all to human and in this a spin off from that series the heroes are just the same.

We met Major General Austin Pritchard (Stars and Stripes) in Call Sign Redemption when he went rogue from his command at JASOC to save Trevor and Dani in Venezuela and that started the spiral that leads to this book. Under reprimand for unauthorised action in another country he is sent to Pakistan supposedly to visit his troops This leads to enemy action where only two survive him and a young CIA officer (his story will be Rogue Officer)who loses and arm and his hearing. Unable to stand what is happening Austen hands in his resignation and decides to walk the Maya trail in Mexico hoping to find himself. What he finds is Dr Mikayla Salim a research scientist trying to save a rare orchid whose roots and leaves show promise as a cure/treatment for Parkinson disease. Soon a cat and mouse game will begin as the orchid becomes a prize in corporate espionage and Mikayla finds that the danger is closer to home than she realises Soon Austin has found a new reason to fight, the woman he is growing to love but when danger strikes he will have to call on his friends and family if he is to save them and in the process he will reconnect with the ones who love him.

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "ROGUE PROTECTOR" Patricia D. Eddy did an amazing job writing this story it's full of emotional turmoil, intrigue, suspense, danger, action, intense drama, you can't put thus book down until finished an on tbe edge of your seat read.
Austin Pritchard lived by his Aif Force Code until he puts his sister Dani and BF Trevor before anything else he goes AWOL to Venezuela foreign soil without permission to save Trevor's life he gets called to Commander Ivan Clarke's office his boss and he's pi**ed because if got caught on camera or was recognized he'd be in jail.
Dr. Mikayla Salim works at the Smithsonan doing research on a rare orchid plant that could cure Parkinsons only found in the Chiapas mountains in Mexico she gets to take her three students with her to Mexican Gov't approved their Visa's to go.
Austin now retired is in Mexico trying to find who he is as a civilian he meets Mikayla in a bar he's impressed with her research to find a cure for Parkinsons but neither of them knows that they will be caught up in the corruption that's going on in Mexico that's puts Mikayla in danger.
I defintely recommend to get this extremely well writted story that won't disappoint with great captivating characters I loved the chemistry between Austin and Mikayla and Austin will have to be the protector once again and save her and her students from danger. AWESOME READ YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS!!!!!

This is a new book for Patricia Eddy's Gone Rogue series, spin-off from the AFK series.

What can I say that I'm glad that I was able to read this wonderful book.

The action scenes were intense, the sex was hot and the love true and deep. The way the relationship developed between Austin and Mikayla might be fast but it goes beyond superficial.

What I ABSOLUTELY LOVE within this book is that it upholds what respect means between a man and a woman, between two people of different cultures and backgrounds and faith. That there is communication and openness between the two that is VITAL on how a relationship would work. How that even from two completely different backgrounds, you can still find common ground in love. Plus, how family, not of blood, really works.

I recommend reading the AFK series first so you're familiar with the other characters but this can be a standalone.

If you're looking for your next military romance book with strong but equal characters, look no further and grab this book from Patricia!

I voluntarily leave an honest review in exchange for receiving an advanced copy of this book.

Rogue Protector is compelling and intense; filled with some deeply emotional and heart pounding moments. Patricia Eddy does a wonderful job of putting you right in the middle of the action. I loved that Mikayla Salim and Austin Pritchard are two 40 something adults who arefated to find the loves of their lives in the wilds of Mexico.

Hiking the Maya trail in the hopes of finding the man beneath Major General Austin Pritchard, Austin can't seem to get out from under the darkness in his soul. Fate, Karma or maybe serendipity put Mikayla on a barstool next to Austin. They just click. They spend three idyllic nights getting to know each other. With Mik, Austin starts to emerge from the darkness and feels the lightness she brings into his life. Mik can't believe that this powerful, dynamic, gorgeous man could be interested in her but the more she gets to know him the more she wants him to be in her life. When her life is in peril, the Major General roars to life calling on all his training. Keeping Mik safe is his number one priority.

Austin was good, Mik was boring, 3.5 stars

I liked the original series, and was glad to have Austin get his own book and see things from his perspective. But Mik was boring to me. I ended up skimming to finish. I did finish, because I wanted to follow Austin's story and the general plot of this book. But she just didn't do it for me and I never really saw what he saw in her. She was very much like someone you'd meet in real life, she came across as intelligent and strong enough to be successful in academia, but was otherwise meek and sometimes made stupid decisions. That's fine in real life, but just boring in a book.

I still like this author and the world she has created with these characters, so I will certainly read the next installment. Even though I didn't connect with this book so much, I absolutely recommend the original Beyond The Keyboard series and this spin off.

it was awesome to hear Austin's story. I loved the way it was artfully linked in with the previous book, as Trev and Danni...and Austin were in a pretty nasty situation. this book didn't have the action that some of the others have but it was nice to hear past family characters mentioned and I so look forward to hearing the next one.
my only eye roll is the fact that Mik is nearing 40 and she still has the naive beliefs that she was raised with, I mean the whole clothing thing is a bit over the top. her innocence, to me, stopped me feeling the connection that the two were having and it tamed Ms Eddys love scenes
as well. it's also a bit Insta love as well but I can live with that.
I was simply thrilled to hear one my favourite narrators voice; Sebastian you are awesome; between you, Aiden snow, Jason clarke and John lane ...i could listen all night (sigh!) and Lydia, did a really good job bringing Miks voice to life

Thrilling and intense story right to the very end!

WOW! What an amazing and utterly thrilling story to read. Austin and Mik’s story took me on one intense and very suspenseful rollercoaster ride. There were so many emotions with this story that I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Austin and Mik are amazing characters who instantly feel the pull of attraction and a connection that is hard to deny. Their whirlwind romance is utter perfection.

I loved that Austin and Mik knew right away that there was something growing between them. Even though things were moving really fast they were not going to deny their feelings. They are a fantastic couple and their chemistry is amazing to read about.

I loved every minute of this story and I can't wait for more in this series!

Austin Pritchard and Mikayla Sahim have a story that I know I was waiting for. Pritchard has dark demons of his past he must deal with. Mikayla has an important project of a lifetime that she takes on with three of her students down in Mexico. There is where she not only meets a man that makes her legs become hello, but she also meets extreme danger.

I love the fact that there are several characters from Previous series intertwined with this story. Unfortunately, I could not give it 5 Stars, as I wanted to because I was waiting for some parts of the told story to come together. Such as Dax request, Trevor & Dani and also Ronan. These pieces were not complete for me as a follower of all of these series.

I do look forward to the new Rogue spin-off series.

Hoopla listen narrated by Sebastian York and Lidia Dornet.

The over use of consent almost killed this book for me. Almost to the point of knowing the political climate when it was written. I get that as a Muslim she was raised conservative but she wasn’t practicing. Her inexperience was a little exaggerated.

Loving the opposites attract feel to the story though. Such different worlds the characters come from is refreshing.

I didn’t like the predictability. She has asthma and does something that’ll cause it to flare up all the while giving her attackers an opening to her. Why do these women make stupid decisions, like doing something they KNOW they shouldn’t? Still, that won’t stop me from listening to more of the series.

Solid 4.5 star
Major General Austin Pritchard is lost not knowing how to become a civilian now he is retired and still dealing with what happened to his brother and the ripple effects of it while Doctor Mikayla Salim is finally doing what she has always wanted however that does mean she is traipsing around a Mexican jungle checking on rare orchids. Austin and Mikayla are the perfect match and while I got excited to see what happens danger lurks in the most unexpected places and had me chewing my lip to see what would happen next and whether ether of them or the orchids will survive. Fantastic read and I can not wait for more in the series!!!

Rogue Protector, book one in the Gone Rogue series follows Major General Austin Pritchard and botany expert, Doctor Mikayla Salim. This series is a spin off of the Away From Keyboard series, so I would recommend you read those first (they aren’t completely necessary, but they will help understand the other background characters in the book.) I don’t want to give away to muc, but this story covers everything from romance to mystery and a dash of danger thrown in the mix that will leave you turning page after page to discover what happens next.
Will be interesting to see what, or who, comes next in this series.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book.

I received an Advanced Reader Copy. I am voluntarily leaving a review. This is the first book in the series that was spun off of Away from the Keyboard series. General Pritchard was the head of JSOC when he went rogue to help his sister and best friend in Venezuela. He is punished by being sent to Afghanistan, after his men are injured in an attack, he heads to Mexico to do some soul searching. He meets a Researcher trying to cultivate an orchid to cure Parkinson's. But it will take all his skiils when she goes missing in the mountains. This is another fantastic romantic suspense from Ms Eddy. String 4.5 stars

As a die-hard Patricia Eddy fan, I went into this book expecting to be totally enthralled.

And I was not disappointed!!

If you have read Patricia Eddy's Away From Keyboard series--or even if you haven't--this is a fan-freaking-tastic read!! There's enough tie-in for those who've read AFK, but it's separated enough for those who haven't to enjoy.

As always, strong, three-dimensional characters take you on a roller-coaster ride of adventure, life-threatening danger, and fantastic romance!

But don't take my word for it, check it out for yourself before the second installment comes out!

Love the storyline and character development.

The details was just enough and came in the story to fill in when you had questions.

Austin and Mick are perfect...him fighting demons in his head from a trauma and a her being the balm to calm him in a way he thought he didn't need. They know fromt he moment they meet that they are meant for each other...and that is when the story takes off.

This reiterates the underlying thoughts of - love happens when youleast expects it and when you know you know..oh and be careful who you trust they may just be your downfall and tough decisions are tough most of the time because they are the right ones to make. And sacrifice is remembered..always.

I was planning to read the Rogue books after finishing Away at the Keyboard, but they are so interwoven. I started Ronan’s book, but the glimpses into Austen and Mik’s fights for survival made me change my mind. I was already curious about Austen from earlier books, but saw him as a ‘tough guy’ and pretty bossy. Rogue Protector begins with him as a man who has taken too many hits, and is just done. He’s escaping from life with little hope he can find his way. The development of his character and the introduction of an awesome and brilliant woman, combined with an interesting, exciting plot, made this well worth the detour from the AFK series.
