Wildsam Field Chicago presents a balanced and beautiful collection of stories and intel that spotlights a city of contrasts and culture. Inside, readers will find Chicago travel recommendations, as well as stories and insights from heralded locals and lesser-known heroes. The icon of the Midwest,
Honestly was hoping for a bit more. Not much more mind you, just a little. Some more description and depth. I expected more interviews and essays but it is mostly recommendations and old newspaper articles. But I did get what I was hoping to out of it. I learned new things about Chicago and some new places to check out.
Wildsam provides an eclectic, often throwback list of recommendations for the modern, seemingly loaded traveler. I can't really tell if I'd recommend it for travelers who don't know anything about Chicago hoping to get the inside scoop
My own eccentric recommendations: a. if you're in the area, see if you can still spot the awesome old whale mural b. the 80s throwback McDonald's on Navy Pier. You don't have to order anything, just enjoy the lightning insanity that only the 80s (90s?) would dare to dish up. Btw the theater at the end of the pier was used in the Color of Money c. Rolling Stones record store (it is a hike outside of the city) d. What is referred to on the internet as the Indiana Jones Museum e. Swirlz cupcakes. That's all they serve: cupcakes. See if the meatloaf cupcake place is still operating f. Barleycorns? If it's still around? Affordable good food g. Do the Bike the Drive if you can
