World of the Changed #3

Noa in the Flesh

Rate this book
The World of the Changed, still going strong! A sister kidnapped, a powerful enemy right around the corner, and Earth under the thumb of the monsters. What else is it going to take to become a true hero and save humanity? The only problem is that Mark Derwin has bigger problems, focused as he is on finding Squirrel, his sister. And he has to make sure she's still the same person she always was rather than a chunk of noa. He's prepared to do anything, go to any lengths to make that happen, including working with the game. But not with the game owner. Mark has quite the litany of questions for that character.

Vasily Mahanenko is a fantasy author working in the new genre of LitRPG - the MMO-based fantasy and sci fi. His Way of the Shaman series took Russian literature by storm in 2012.

Vasily dipped into his college-days insider knowledge as a hardcore gamer in order to create a believable world of the virtual-reality MMO game. His bestselling series combines fiction and video games, telling the story of Shaman and his friends stuck in the ruthless reality of Barliona. He used his more than ten years' experience as an ERP implementation project manager to approach his writing in a well-organized manner, working to a strict schedule, a set of deadlines and even a budget. At the moment, the series boasts six novels with the seventh one in the works - this time the author expands on stories of Shaman's companions and those who helped and supported him in his trials and tribulations.

The first book of the series has already been translated into English, with more translations to follow, aiming to make the Way of the Shaman series available to the English-language reader in its entirety.

Vasily's other passion is space exploration which is why he now works on a follow-up series entitled Galaktiona. Set in a space-simulator based world, the first book of the series in already finished while Vasily works on its sequel.

Satisfying conclusion to this with a small but..

The ending was satisfying if a bit underwhelming. I loved the pacing as it kept me engaged and interested the whole time. I love the nonstop action. My only complaint is that at times out clever MC seems to forget the tools at his disposal and acts just a little but stupid during these times it forced me out of the immersion to shake my head at the stupidity of it all. These times seen to coincide with the author wanting to divert the plot in different direction or conclude a current plotline. All in all this book is worth thread if you'd made it this far.

Alert

I hate trying to write reviews because there are really only pass/fail results for me. Did I make it all the way through? Yes? 5 stars. No? There would be nothing here to read. In all fairness, if an author holds my attention from page one to the end, they’ve done their job. Anything less than 5 stars is petty criticism from someone incapable of even doing the job let alone doing a better one.

So in respect for the author and their work, I am going to start pasting this along with a generic review I found somewhere. “This was a fun book. I am glad that I read it. You should try it too.”

Now, since I have to keep explaining myself to people who don't like my reviews, I guess some clarification is in order.

1. I am 100% against criticism for works of art. Art is subjective, meaning reviews are irrelevant. The observer's opinion is only relevant to the observer. It is my belief that regardless of what others might say, I have to experience the art for myself.

2. I read upwards of 20 books a month. The $10/month I spend on K U, feels like I am cheating the authors. But since I can't afford 20 books a month if I were to purchase them directly, all I can offer is a positive review. That leads us to the final point.

3. If I get to the end of a book, then it was worth my time. I give those books 5 stars because it helps the author get exposure. That is the only reason I write reviews at all.

I understand that people are people and they are going to do what they do regardless of my stance. I know the way that I review books upsets some people. I am sorry they feel that way but as many have said, they will just ignore my review going forward. In fact, if you made it this far through my review, you should definitely read the book and completely ignore all of the reviews here. You are a much better judge of what you will like than anyone here.

Cheers

"Świat przeistoczonych Tom 3 : Spersonifikowane Noa" Wasilij Machanienko

To jednak kawał dobrej literatury RPG.

Trzeci i ostatni tom z serii " Świat Przeistoczonych ".
Podsumowując, przyjemna, wciągająca i dająca fun z czytania seria.
5.0⭐

PS. Ten sposób bardzo mocno widać w 2 części; We need more mines...

Przyjemne chwile spędzone z Markiem Dervine'm i dużo akcji. Zakończenie otwarte zachęcające do gdybania co dalej.

Aggravating

DNF at 54%

I have had enough. The story really got increasingly painful to read for me the more convoluted it became.

The protagonist follows the footsteps of Alice in the Wonderland - don´t put everything you find into your mouth you buffoon!! - and becomes a walking disaster. The steadily increasing odds have killed all relatability and makes the story feel like a weird fever dream..

Dragons

Book 3 of the World of Change series. This is the end of this Arc of the series. It is well done and exciting to the end. One interesting game works functions that took the place of the standard cultivation path. Insane level gains seem to be negated by everyone around him just getting stronger at a faster rate. Overall for the series I did enjoy it, but this one was defiantly odd in some areas and disturbing in others. Caution recommended for sensitive readers.

Ciężko mi ocenić tę książkę. Pod pewnymi względami była dość monotonna. Pewne wątki i rozwiązania sytuacji mega sztuczne.

Different but excellent

There have been all kinds of mechanics tried for litrpg. This one is unique, a little off the wall, and a completely different direction that most of Mahanenko s books but I like all his work and this was no exception.

Well done ending to the series. Leaves it open for a spinoff series too, I like that. Most (if not all) of your questions about the game and it's participants are all answered in this final book in the series. If you liked the first two books, you should enjoy this one as well.

I loved this book series, the rules of the "system" were very unique and rather interesting. I enjoyed the way the character constantly got 1 step ahead and 2 steps back, it was a great book series and I enjoyed all 3 parts of it. Thanks.

Ending seemed rushed, entire book was just focused on adding new points rather than quests and such, it was fine but book 2 was definitely better.

The series was a as amazing

The enjoyed my time with Mark, how it ended it looks like it has another story that follows. I will try to find it. I did find one word of Russian in it, or at least the characters were Russian.
