Rate this book
The Extinction Curse Adventure Path begins! The Circus of Wayward Wonders has just arrived in the remote town of Abberton, and the player characters are the stars of the show! When the ringmaster turns up dead, the fate of the traveling circus and its entertainers hangs in the balance, and the heroes must scramble to put on a successful show and find the killer—all at the same time! Investigations only lead to more questions, and the heroes find themselves center stage in a dangerous, prehistoric plot that threatens not just Abberton, but every inhabitant of the Starstone Isles!

This is a fantastic setup for a campaign. Not been able to play the campaign because of Covid-19, but we might try and set it up online.

Great setup for a story, great stronghold management system and the entire circus is just set up fantastically with fantastic NPCs and some really cool systems for the players to use to help them in their playthrough! Can't wait to play through this entire campaign with my groups

I GM'd this for four players playing online. We started on roll 20 and switched to foundry about halfway. We thought this was a really fun adventure with a lot of cool story beats and enemies to fight. We especially loved the dinosaurs!

The biggest problem for my players and me was how connected the adventure path was to the circus story. Some of the players built characters that were very much on the outskirts of society, something that a circus story should fit well with. Chapters 3 and 4 had the characters rescuing a mayor character and investigating a mysterious tower to try and fix the declining nature of the surrounding area. My players still did the activities, because there is a certain amount of railroading you need to be okay with if you are playing an adventure path, but they thought the characters they made might not be willing to do these altruistic things.

This AP is a great hero story, tied to a circus subplot, but sold as a circus story. We enjoyed our time playing, but thought it was advertised poorly.

Don't be fooled by promises of a circus campaign. This is generic good guy fantasy adventure #4 template 3 with an occasional flirt with circus mechanics.

My group made a bunch of circus performers who wanted to be part of a circus, only for the book to expect us to go around on generic adventures fighting demons and piles of trash mobs with grossly inflated hit point values. 90% of our time was spent on long, pointless combat against boring enemies we had no actual motivation to deal with.

It claims you don't need to be good aligned and then gives you weak hooks that only goody good characters would bite to go do generic adventuring trash.

Do not buy this module. Literally anyone can homebrew something just as good on the fly.

I am getting ready to run this adventure path and I am absolutely loving it so far. This book covers part 1 of 6 and my players are going to love running a circus while saving the world... or well, a small part of their world anyway.
