On the surface, things look pretty damn good. I have a great pack around me, Castor’s happier than he’s ever been, and something’s building between Elijah and me. Beneath that is the looming threat of my past. Someone knows who I really am, and possibly what I became.
Of course, the play must go on, which brings us to my next client. A jaguar guardian has hired Elijah and me to find a clay pot. It sounds pretty simple. After all, what can a clay plot possibly do?
End the world as we know it. That’s what.
Nothing’s ever as simple as it seems. I must try and juggle my new life, the fate of the world, and my past, all while making sure no one else gets hurt. It’s a good thing I’m a badass, else I might break a sweat.
Jayne is an English Urban Fantasy author who owns two very large fluffy cats. When she isn't writing, or playing with her cats, she's binge-watching Netflix, baking, or complaining about the weather.
Definitely enjoying this storyline and characters more and like how the author took a concept that wasn't new or original necessarily but made it fun, interesting and hew own.
This was a great follow up to the first book, and while the new ‘case’ was the focus for a majority of the book, we did get some resolution in the stalker plot from book one. It was a little over the top, but I did like the direction that it took Lily and Elijah’s tentative relationship in.
Fast paced and full of action, I’m enjoying the characters and can’t wait to see what shenanigans Jess gets up to next.
The story continues and the action picks back up! However Lily exhibits some dumb moments that puss me off, But she acknowledges those mistakes and will hopefully learn from them!! While she is Good at what she does, she should listen to her Adversaries, It is okay to be confident in your skills, but you really should listen to what people tell you about themselves and ask appropriate questions because you never know when that info may come in handy, or when it will bite you in the ass. I'm hoping that her not asking a question that he pointed out she should have asked doesn't turn back to bite her in the butt later on in the series. I am not happy with the loss of a certain person in this book, and I can only hope that what happened was supposed to happen for her growth. And in listening to and dealing with ones enemies, and her wanting to fully actually integrate into the Pack, she needs to explore her past! You don't get over something and move forward by blackening and pretending that it never happens, because that allows someone who knows just a little bit or a lot about who and what you are to use it against you at the worst time,As it happened during the scene in this book. The best way to move forward is to slowly but surely go over what your trauma was your experience and hash it out and some way shape or form. This way no 1 can use it against you in a fight or leave you shocked by something that should have been apparent if only you had thought about it before. So before she moves on to conquer the future and to deal with the next storm on the horizon she needs to look back into her past and see everything with the eyes and experience of the woman she is now to help her figure out what was done, why, and how it can impact her now and in the future!! I'm holding out hope for a return!
Great action in these books, but no emotional connection. I find that a lot in male authors. I’m a little confused with this one. Here is an example: Your companion/familiar whom you’ve been with for the last 10 years or so decides to betray you. The first inclination you get is during a fight, one paragraph. So you kill him and here is another paragraph about you grieving and the book ends. I am left wanting to know why? Maybe some thoughts thrown in from the familiar about why he’s doing it, I don’t know.....I’m missing something. Or maybe the support characters are two one dimensional to support the main character? I enjoyed the first book enough to buy the second book, thinking that there would be some growth and explanations. I’m not sure if I want to buy the third when it comes out, because I’ve been left unsatisfied with this one.
I said all of that, but the book was actual pretty good if you only concentrate on the action scenes.
Found this sequel to be as good as the 1st book in this series. Jayne Hawke has become one of my favourite author's. I thoroughly enjoyed this book along with a the other's read to date. Can't wait to read more by this talented writer..5☆
The reason I gave this one star is because the characters did not have any depth.....They were glossed over. The final battle had no "grab you" commentary...It was just kind of matter of fact. It was anti-climatic. And I usually really like this author.
I enjoyed the second book in the series. Lily, Elijah and the rest of the pack have a new case related to the theft of an artifact from a god and Lily’s second stalker has to be dealt with. Some editing issues but nothing distracting.
This author weaves a brilliant tale of magic, friendships, fights, intrigue, betrayal, God's and family. The story draws you in until the end when you want more.
