I have had my nose buried in a history book - fact or fiction - for as long as I can remember, but even more important to me are the places and the objects that conjure up the past. My first attempt at historical fiction at the age of eight was three pages of improbable medieval drama set in the local castle.
With a degree in geography and archaeology I love to try and 'read' the landscape and the buildings in it for clues about the past. Virtually any place can trigger ideas for plots, but I am particularly inspired by Venice, Burgundy, Mediterranean islands and the Hertfordshire and Norfolk countryside.
I live in England in a village in Bedfordshire with my long-suffering husband. He is not sure whether to be flattered or alarmed to be told he is the inspiration for all my romantic heroes! Whenever possible we escape to our cottage on the North Norfolk coast where Percy, the bossy pheasant, allows us to share the garden.
My resolution every time I start on a new plot is to plan it carefully, make copious notes first and write lots of drafts in a disciplined and orderly manner. What inevitably happens is that the story starts to write itself in my head until it gets completely out of control - meanwhile my study floor becomes a sea of open books, prints and maps and I am found sitting in the car at traffic lights, muttering dialogue. At that point I have to start writing, knowing full well that the hero and heroine are going to take over and sabotage all my attempts at discipline. It is, after all, their story.

Yay, Luc!
I'm definitely inhaling this series at this point. I did guess the "whodunit' a bit easily in this book, so that was one less star for me, but overall, this was another win in the time travel genre!

I really love this time travel series. Cassandra is from the twenty first century, but every time there's is trouble back in 1807, she finds herself transported there. It started after she purchased a small portrait of the Earl. She is a special police woman, and lives in a small hamlet. The mansion, and estate still stands that Lucien lived in, as is located about one hundred miles from where she lives.It is open to the public, and on her day off Cassie decides to take the tour. She takes Luc' s hand held picture along. I won't spoil it, but all is not right at the mansion, and old faded blood is found behind some paneling, that Cassandra knew was neither there, or was the paneling, and off she goes hardly making it back to her car. Just once shee wished the pull would work, without murder, and in this case stolen jewels were involved. These books are very fun despite the murders, and mayhem. Luc, and Cassandra are in love, but it is hard being a couple two hundred years apart. This story involves a house party, and some new guests, and old friends. James comes by, and gets involved, and of course his two young four year old sons, and his mother, and an Aunt that had never met Cassie before. This is her fourth trip back, and she is very careful about her speech, and manners. She leaves a limited wardrobe there, so she can fit in, and if something is needed they are wealthy enough to have it purchased. She pretends to be from Boston, and a close friend of the family.This mystery, and murder really kept you thinking. My first guess was wrong, but I was able to figure it out prior to the end. It all worked out rather well at the conclusion. My only wish that it had lasted a bit longer.I agree with Miss Austen that a good book ends to soon. I hope that time goes by quickly for her next book to be ready for sale. 5 stars.

This is my favorite time-travel series, and this latest installment did not disappoint. Murder at a house party gave it Agatha Christie vibes, which the heroine herself acknowledges. Cassie didn't get as many opportunities to show off her 21st-century skills as a Special Constable, but I didn't mind. I am not a reader of mysteries or detective stories, so it is a tribute to Louise Allen's writing that I was just as captivated by the non-romance elements of this book. Allen does a great job with the dialogue, making Cassie sound just different enough from the 1807 characters to remind the reader that she is from a different era. I normally prefer more culture clash in my time-travel stories, but after spending time with these characters through three books, I was just happy to be with them again.
As for the romance, Allen does a great job of conveying the physical attraction between Cassie and Luc without giving a detailed description of what part goes where. Not many authors can do that, so I commend her. This is definitely a book you could hand to your maiden aunt without blushing.
All the books in the series end with not quite a cliffhanger, but an opening to allow for another book. However, this one leaves a little more unresolved than the others. I will be waiting on the edge of my seat for the next book!

Another Good Story
In this series about a young woman who time travels back 200 years into the past, this was another good part of the story. This time there is a mystery about a dead maid and stolen jewels. Of course Cassie helps to solve both but this time Luc goes forward in time with her. Good series.

Five stars, Cassie again travels back in time to help Luc solve another murder, this story basically you know who the killer is.. What's even better is ending which was a real surprise..

Absolutely Wonderful
I'm in love with this series and the latest does not disappoint. I so think Trubble is adorable. Hm, would it not be amusing if he took to James right off? I wonder what adventures might occur in the 21st Century? Will he meet his descendant?
