Over the course of a career in Employee Relations, an inordinate amount of my time and energy has been spent with soon-to-be-former employees who had crashed their careers at the intersection of Bad Choice Boulevard and Sex Drive. These workplace disasters bring out the voyeurism, Schadenfreude, and plain old warped sense of humor in all of us. And so . . . from my naïve colleague who called our CEO a dildo, to the employee caught on videotape licking door handles in the company parking garage, their stories must be told!
“...the entertainment factor is consistent and the laughs should come easily for readers who fancy the awkwardness of workplace weirdness... Ideal for readers who need a refresher course on the consequences of impropriety.” - Kirkus Reviews
This book is a collection of stories collected by the author, who has a long history or working in HR. Some of the incidents happened in a hospital setting, while others occurred in a business setting. I was expecting the stories to be shocking or funny or at least interesting, but there was really nothing here. Co-workers sending naughty photos to each other? Accidentally sending intimate photos to "all" rather that the one intended recipient? Claiming sexual harassment to hide an affair or attempt to extort money from the company? Angrily accusing co-workers of having sex on the job? Nothing was all that strange or unexpected.
On the bright side, it is a quick read, so there's that . . .
I received a free download of the ebook as a winner of a Goodreads giveaway.
If you are up for some short (true) stories that take place in the workplace, most of them inappropriate, this book is for you. It is very well written, comical, entertaining, and will have you either rolling your eyes, shaking your head, or laughing out loud, sometimes all three. Quick, easy, enjoyable read.
Nothing that involves humans should be surprising. A collection of very short stories. I didn't find any of them to be 'laugh out loud' as promised but it was an ok way to spend a couple of hours. I wouldn't consider it to be a total waste of time.
Ever wonder what goes on in offices across the country? Well, wonder no more! These short vignettes of poor choices, wrong thinking, and outright bad judgment will keep you laughing every time you reach for the book. What a great gift for all of your corporate and medical-field friends! Lawler's clean writing style and ability to convey a story in a few pages is wonderful and hard to do. He pulls it off beautifully.
Oh my goodness!! Here I thought I had seen and heard it all!! You too? Well my friend, guess again!! Loved this and of course we humans are definitely not perfect, but God help us if we find ourselves anywhere near some of the situations within these pages!! I found the humor refreshing!! Enjoy the story everyone!! --P/
This book was written as though someone who had been drinking was trying to impress people at a party. That is to say, not well and often hardly coherent, with a lot of slang thrown in.
This was a fun book about what an HR Director had to deal with during his career. A number of funny, not so funny, strange and unusual situations. My personal favorite was the poor maintenance man who was fixing the plumbing, when someone ignored the Do Not Use sign and he was showered with #2. Despite several doctors insisting he be fired for interrupting a meeting, HR showed that in this case, stuff flew up the chain of command instead of down. A great fun read.
This was a hilarious book about just how dumb people can be when sex is involved. The stories are a little on the crude side, but still they are funny. I don't know if these stories are true or not. However they all have the ring of truth to them and we all have stories similar to these in our memories. So for a good laugh at the expense of others check out just how silly people can be when you mix work and sex.
I feel like the author is an old guy who is trying to impress a group of people. Some stories made me question why he would even include it in the book.
Very cheesy. Glad I won the book and didn't pay for it.
Not a total wealth of humor, but funny enough at times that my wife asked why I was laughing out loud. It is worth a read if you're looking for workplace humor based on the actions of real people.
Each anecdote is a few pages, brief yet amusing. A couple feel like internet lore, but stupidity knows no boundaries and the "can you believe this" stories had to start somewhere.
Overall it's a light read full of cautionary tales.
Despite the naughty title, much of the sordid details are described discreetly, such as in this example:
"In the interest of good taste, I won’t give you the blow-by-blow details of the remaining thirty minutes of audio porn direct from some Holiday Inn Express. Suffice it to say, his side of the conversation included a lot of references to male and female physiology, several synonyms for turgid, and no fewer than six words ending in the letters -ck."
Kind of an interesting book of you're into bizarre work stories. While most people may not have the volume of stories and details this book has, some of us may know a few. It definitely helps to know these issues exist everyehere.
Wasn't as good and funny as some said. Tho it was a few that made me smile. Most of the short stories were weird made you think of weird people. Would have never paid for it.
