Salford Saga #1

Ruby McBride

Where there’s a rulebook, there’s a rebel…

Ruby McBride has always been on the wrong side of authority. The grand opening of the Manchester Ship Canal is set to be a day of unfettered festivity for Ruby and her younger sister and brother. Even Queen Victoria will be in attendance.

But the glories of the ceremony fade into insignificance when their dying mother delivers them to the imposing oak doors of Ignatius House. Abandoned in the not-so-tender care of the nuns, the siblings are soon separated.

So when the Board of Guardians force Ruby into a marriage that sends her to a new home upon the Salford waterways, she makes only one vow: to reunite her family whatever the cost.

This is an enthralling story of romance and rebellion perfect for fans of Rosie Goodwin and Dilly Court.

Born in Lancashire, I've been a teacher, bookseller and in a mad moment, a smallholder on the freezing fells of the Lake District where I tried my hand at the ‘good life’, kept sheep and hens, various orphaned cats and dogs, built drystone walls, planted a small wood and even learned how to make jam. I now spend the winter in Spain and summer in the UK. I have now published 48 books including many bestselling family sagas and historical novels.

I loved the reality-based and its contortion events. It's a typical 'London' livelihood series but the romance sets out truly its authenticity. I loved the idea of Ruby, being the center of this book, the length of strength she's portrayed. It ignites the idea of 'there's nothing impossible for a woman who's as stood up as a stone to its values.. there will always be someone and something worth waiting for its remarkable outcome. Perhaps, it's just that in a matter of time, you'll shine'.

Great book

Once again another great read. Makes it difficult to put down and tells you all about how life used to be for the poor and the better off.

Some good storytelling but also plenty of cliches and irritations. Still, generally an easy and light listen. Not highly motivated to read more of the series.
