Billy Harrington has a love/hate relationship with his neighbouring business owner, across the street from his pub. Roxanne owns the local bookstore and she adores all things to do with the greatest love of her life - books. She is single and has recently become the guardian of her teenage niece, Sadie, her wellbeing and happiness is her single focus. The fact that Billy Harrington fathered her niece really irks her but she is resigned to the fact that he will be a part of their lives.
Billy is flabbergasted to find out he has a daughter. While he tries to absorb what this all means he also has to deal with the hostile Roxie who has already made up her mind about him. She thinks he is a no good player who will most likely not be able to step up to being a father to Sadie. Truth be told, she kinda has the hots for Billy and has done for years - she’ll never admit it to anyone though.
Billy is determined to be the father that Sadie deserves, this is all new to him and he knows he needs to tread carefully with her. In doing so, this means also spending time with Roxie. This spitfire seems to be getting under his skin, not in a way he expected. For the first time he is really sitting up and taking notice of her. Once he gets to know Roxie he figures out that he didn’t really know her at all and he likes what he is learning about this passionate woman.
Roxie underestimated Billy. Not only is he stepping up, she can see that he truly cares about his daughter. The more time they spend together the more she feels like she is part of a family again. Sadie is all she has now and the thought of losing her to Billy permanently is not one she wants to entertain. The decision will be up to Sadie and Roxie will have to accept whatever he niece chooses, even if it hurts.
Things are changing between Roxie and Billy, the love/hate thing they had going on turns out to be attraction. Yup, Sadie has a lady boner for him and Billy is having all kinds of naughty thoughts about her, constantly. Trying to get her to let go of her preconceived notions about him proves harder than he thought. It doesn’t help that he has been hiding the truth about some things in his past, happy to go along with what people think of him. Just when Roxie thinks that maybe there could be a future for them, he proves her inner thoughts to be right.
‘His sweet words. His tender touches. I fell for him. And I’ve been played by the player.’
