A Roaring Silence: Or: How to Stop Worrying and Learn How to Cope With tinnitus

Rate this book
Tinnitus is the hearing of sound when no external sound is present. Tinnitus is not a disease, but a condition that can wreak havoc on a person's life because of the fear and anxiety that so often accompanies this strange condition. There is no cure for tinnitus but there is something just as good as a cure and it is called habituation. Habituation is a natural process that occurs in the brain that eases the distress of having this sound as a constant companion. A Roaring Silence How to Stop Worrying and Learn How to Cope With Tinnitus is about my tinnitus journey that started in November 2012. It's also a book that will help you understand what tinnitus is, how it is not to be feared, and things you can do to help speed up the habituation process.

This is an excellent book. It is refreshingly witty and a very helpful road map for anyone experiencing T. I laughed out loud so many times throughout it and felt great after reading it. I now have an understanding of what habituation actually means and will look like for me too. I would go as far as saying this is the only thing a person experiencing T should read. Thank you for sharing your experiences and insightful guidance.

Great book!-

I have tinnitus and decided early on I could live with it. I am glad to find a book that supports this. There are too many people wanting to have us buy into the idea that it can be cured. I find his approach remarkable and reliable.

good personal experience

It was great to hear about someone else going through this and how they dealt with it. I wish at the end he had given where else you could get support from other sufferers.

Habitation is a real thing

I agree that tinnitus can and does lose its terror as time goes on. However, not much was said about ear protection so as not to worsen tinnitus. For me, it does get worse with exposure to noise - a fairly quiet day will become a shrieking mess after a short exposure to noise. I carry earplugs to mitigate this onset.
